It was the second bloodiest day in british history and it must have been serious slaughter in the winted mud when heavy armored knights were hunted on their retreat. The killing took more than 6 hours and if I remember well more than 15k knights and soldiers were slaughtered.
They are defensive unit called pike man historically accurate too their main priorities are charging head on with long spear killing in distance it will be really costly if they get flanked or their long spears get canceled so remaining in formation and attacking is the best option for pikes but their archers even if their spears get canceled they could kill them all with little sword and shield they carry I am kinda confused here too taking so much lives just by remaining in formation against archers

First the foot companions were marched to within easy arrow range of the archers, and then ordered to just stand there taking huge arrow casualties. Then the commander of the archers apparently decided that this was too unfair to the foot companions, and ordered the archers to run right up to the foot companions to be slaughtered, instead of remaining at distance killing them. Dumb as a stump generalship on both sides.

Imagine having to run or jog that distance with a pike. Even if that distance is very short it would be hard to balance the pike. These sarrisa pikes can be disassembled and re assembled but it would take some time. If they were to disassemble and run toward the enemy it would be hard to re assemble it on the way. If they were to use the spear end of the disassembled pike it would make it an ordinary spear and their prowess would be limited considering pikes are nearly impenetrable from the front.
why when im running battle of 40k soliders at all. the soliders run laggy and not smoth. im playing on extreme settings with 10900k & 3090 & 32GB mem u can help me with this?
And this is why infantry was never used by anyone again and archers ruled the battlefield. Only not. It bugs me how difficult it is to balance archers in most games. They are usually way too strong from historical and sometimes gameplay pov, but if hey would be weaker, there would be little reason to use them. I would prefer archers to do very little damage per volley (but arrows that hit unprotected neck should obviously kill even if it would be first hit) and just be good at inflicting damage over time, and only kill people quickly if they hit unprotected parts, which means usually side or rear.
That´s pretty much how the game works, if you fire with archer unit at a unit with good armour and a big shield (Legionaire for example) you do little damage. But if you have about 1000 arrows fired at about 160 men they will drop quickly like in the video.
@@DangeHD Not at all how game works lol. First volley might not do anything, but it takes away health pool even when it should not. That is why soldiers suddenly start dying in large numbers. It has nothing to do with arrows hitting unprotected parts in their body, it could hit in the shield without penetrating and as long as HP is too low, soldier dies.
@@TheRomanRuler Never really noticed that, i only observe units getting fired upon for a longer time when in testudo and never saw someone getting killed through a hit on the shield
@@DangeHD Yeah they do fine for a long time, but then suddenly testudo starts loosing men in very quick succession until all of them are dead. Shields are unfortunately not much more than secondary health bars. That kind of stuff does not bother me as much in Warhammer Total War, but i still would prefer more realistic system.
@@TheRomanRuler It isn´t the best approach to simulate shields but to be fair if your shield gets hit by 5 arrows the chance of one penetrating and hitting your arm isn´t that small. It would be cool if some men whose shield got hit a lot of times are forced to drop it or atleast stagger a bit and lose the formation slightly. Afterall a Scutum isn´t inpenetrable :D
The pikeman commander must be stupid ....it would be better if the pikeman army charged without stopping and with speed. Otherwise they are just waiting for the arrows to hit them.

no they shouldnt, macedonian style phalanx was vulnerable to archers due to smaller shields than their hoplite counterparts. better frontally in melee, worse protection against archers and slingers.

I think he had special linen layered armor that did not allow the arrows to penetrate easily rather than the breast plate armor that he hoplites had . This special armor protected his phalanx from being decimated from Persian arrows even with their small shields. He also wore this special armor on horse back when he spearheaded his cavalry into the Persian infantry. He would have been an easy kill with out it after all he did stand out in front of his army. That’s why this video is not realistic at all

I haven't played this total war, but is it natural for these spear men not to charge?

@@byzanto They are not modeled into the game, thus phalanx is weak against archer fire. You cant make game 100% realistic ever.
