  • For this next upload, I actually had quite a bit of difficulty writing the description since I was absolutely floored by the contents of this recording. While Elton has many concerts from 1984 that are fantastic, the quality isn’t always top notch. In terms of audience recordings, there are some that are legitimately quite nice, but even they aren’t necessarily excellent-sounding. This upload changes that perspective. This is an absolutely amazing audience recording with a great mix and it ranks among the highest analog quality recordings for Elton’s live concerts. The show is also complete which makes this absolutely essential for any Elton fan to listen to. If you want an ’80s Elton John concert with perfect quality (for an audience recording), then this show is right at the top of the list!
It’s a great thing that the quality is excellent because this show is definitely deserving of such great sound. Similar to the previous concert in Barcelona, the crowd atmosphere is fantastic and this propels Elton and the band to give their absolute all on stage. With the fantastic audio quality, you can hear everything from Nigel’s closed hi-hat hits, to Elton’s varying vocal tones, and everything in-between! The band are in top form at this show with every member shining on their respective instrument. You can actually easily follow each member’s part on every song (since the fidelity is so high) and it’s brilliant. Elton is in excellent vocal form and he sounds extremely powerful and enthusiastic at this show. He sings extremely aggressively throughout the concert and shows off his powerful overdriven style in spades. This style of singing is extremely effective on the rocker/uptempo songs in particular and this recording really shows how powerful his voice was on this tour leg. Now, time to go to the synopsis paragraphs!
“Tiny Dancer” ranks among the greatest live versions as Elton’s voice is mostly clean and he shows off his vocal power throughout. “Hercules” is the most spirited and possibly the best live version out there as everything just clicks into place. The guitar work is amazing, Nigel’s drumming is magnificent, Dee’s bass is lovely, and Elton sings the song with extreme power and gusto. “Rocket Man” shows off Elton’s amazing voice and the improvisation section sounds brilliant in the high quality. “Daniel” is one of the best live versions as everybody sounds amazing. “Restless” is another elite version where the band members play like their lives depend on the performance and Elton sings the Breaking Hearts opener with great power. “Candle In The Wind” is another excellent version with Elton belting the hell out of the ending embellishment in full overdrive mode. “The Bitch Is Back” sounds incredible at this show with Elton singing at full power (especially after the epic guitar solo) and the entire performance is a juggernaut in general. “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me” features Elton really showing off his vocal power and he really steps on the gas after the first chorus. “Sad Songs (Say So Much)” sounds brilliant with Elton nailing the vocals and the musicianship being tops. “Bennie And The Jets” is a hell of a performance where Elton hits another level of energy and goes absolutely crazy vocally while playing the piano as if his hands were on fire. “Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word” is great vocally and Elton sings “what do say when it’s all over” in the final verse (instead of “what do I do when lightning strikes me”). Concluding this section, “Philadelphia Freedom” has Elton belting the hell out the song and the band sound fantastic on this rendition.
“Blue Eyes” is an elite version with great vocal harmonies, excellent musicianship, and a fantastic vocal delivery by Elton. “I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues” ranks among the greatest medley versions as Elton sounds splendid and the band are completely on point. “Kiss The Bride” has Nigel drumming up a storm, Elton nailing the vocals, and generally having a spirited and intense edge to it. “Too Low For Zero” is nearly flawless (Elton hits a couple clunkers on the piano) with great vocal harmonies, a fantastic vocal performance from the man with the straw boater hat, and an excellent piano solo. “I’m Still Standing” sounds extremely energetic and sounds like a freight train. “Your Song” sounds excellent with Elton delivering a great vocal (along with a piano clunker in the final chorus). “Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting” ranks among the best live versions from the era as Elton sounds amazing and the entire band play with great passion and enthusiasm. “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” has a piano clunker in the introduction, but Elton makes up for it with an excellent vocal performance and singing about Walls Pork Sausages. Finally, “Crocodile Rock” has Elton having fun with the lyrics and the energy level being through the roof!
    ENJOY!!!
