When I watched this for the first time as a kid I always pictured this was how I would meet the person I would marry so before the plague I used to shake hands with boys I met and I actually did have a moment like this. I love this movie so much whenever I feel sad I watch it and it cheers me up.
I absolutely love the soundtrack for this movie and the way you hear it in the background and how you can recognize the songs but it’s not so loud that it takes over the scene
Only a genius would find a way to meld an (at the time) obscure Carl Wilson vocal with Joni Mitchell to highlight an incredible connection between these two characters. Love this movie! Thanks Cameron Crowe
When russel touches Pennie’s check she melts that moment that feeling that joy and happiness right there my friends its true love. Don’t have to look for wide on top of a mountain under the sea just watch this silly little movie and see the magic in both their eyes that’s love . Melinda and I had that I freaking had her and I blew it - mel take me back and let’s have the perfect hold again- I miss my friend 💔
There is no second movie like this one - the cast, the director, the music ...... If there is please let me know. The way they amped the song just as she smiled .... magical.
One day, William will tell his grandkids how he met their 16 year old grandmother on rock tour where she was tossed around like a frisbee. I still love this movie
@@GlamSohoDoll Penny Lane takes some obvious inspiration from Lori Mattix, a famous child groupie in the 70s. It's up to interpretation ofc but it would fit the plot very well if she was in fact 16.
@@egorsilovs156 She’s heavily inspired by 70s groupie Bebe Buell and the character is heavily implied to be in her early twenties. Her saying she was 18, 17 and 16 was her joking around to get William to be truthful about his age as she didn’t believe him the first he said he was 18!

This wasn't there very first meeting. They were being sarcastic when he introduced them. They just hadn't seen each other in a long time and she missed him.
Oldest story ever. Girl falls for the guy who is the worst possible option that will ultimately break her, simply because of his status in any particular sector of society.
I don't think this scene is that heart breaking. She was coming on to him because she wanted to be apart of the group he was this. Would have never been genuine for real. When she finds out he was 15 she actually befriended him overtime.
i definitely agree with you. like yes, i understand he did hurt her in some way but that is what happens sometimes in relationships. and their love for each other was so real and beautiful. in my mind, after a few years have passed, they get together again and live a happy life ❤️
The ending is great. The girl went to Morocco and made what felt like fantasy talk all along real and does the smart thing and leaves behind the rock lifestyle. You couldn't have a real relationship with a rock star in the 70s without getting your heartbroken. Come on.

This is the cutest thing I’ve ever heard omg
“If you ever get lonely just go to the record store and visit your friends” or pop in the dvd🥰
AWESOME comment!
This is my comfort movie as well.
She is so sweet in this scene. One of my all time favourite movies
Agreed, could watch this movie a dozen times and never get tired of it.
Galaxy Panda, I’m sure I’m getting close to the dozen mark.
I love this scene sooo much and it kills me at the same time
I like how he calls him the enemy but Russel still runs to talk with him in person.
This moment continues to break my heart every single time I watch it.
How beautifully Joni Michelle's River blends in when Penny meet Russell for the first time at 1:20
That was the first time I ever heard River and I love all of Joni Mitchell now because of this film, my absolute favorites both 💗
Nancy Wilson's choice of Joni Mitchell's "River" as the background music for when Russell "meets" Penny is just gorgeous x

My most favorite movie. Every bit of it tugs at my heart strings.
This scene KILLED ME when i first saw it. RIVER was just the icing on top
She has such a haunting smile. I cant explain it..
Favorite movie growing up, definitely looked up to her.
Gawd I love this scene, that song, her laugh…. Such first love vibes.
God this scene hits every time
My brain does not compute that the guy playing Russell is Cory on The Morning Show. Billy is an incredible actor.

She wasn’t 16. You actually didn’t get the movie! 🙄

A wonderful scene in an outstanding movie.
This movie is too good
Have you seen the directors cut/Untitled/Bootleg cut?
When I seen this scene for the first time, I knew this movie was very special
She was born to play this role!!
One of my all time fav movie❤ comfort movie❤

One of the last great movies of the 90's really
Came out in 2000
This wasn't there very first meeting. They were being sarcastic when he introduced them. They just hadn't seen each other in a long time and she missed him.
I am aware, that why I had put “meets” in quotations marks in the title of the video
Thats obvious to literally everyone here. Did you think he just used those quotations for fun?
The beginning of this Clips this song is the Beach boys “feel flows”
My comfort movie ❤❤
@0:40 he looks like Robert Palmer another great musician btw in a Movie
I keep wondering if they actually already knew each other
They did if I’m not mistaken!
I don't know why this as to be this the most touching part of the movie for me i felt it when she cried little.
There’s a line later where Russels mentions they spent a summer together, probably on another tour
@@Espressoqueen9894 totallly agree. I got goosebumps and wasn’t sure why. They set it up so well
Yeah, they did remember Russell telling William about how he wants penny there like last year
I just want to be life like a Rockstar \m/ luv this movie
This is what it feels like to meet your twin flame ❤️🔥 for the first time
If you say so.
Maybe so, but that wasn't the first time they had met, hence the reason she was laughing at the end.
She looks just like Goldie when she laughs
So deep....👽👽👽👽👽👽👽👽👽nothing like joni Mitchell to create the emotional act🌹🌹🌹🌹🐦🕊️

Any other girl he would meet after her would probably be very boring compared to her. He will never get over her
Your my Russell
@dearlittleheart I like the idea of having no idea who we will marry until God places them in our lives.
