His grandfather was a very wise man
Was just gonna say the same. Great quote.
I drove a 1955 Kenworth water truck , back in '94. It was on a Uranium mill tailings disposal project. The guy I worked for had mostly old trucks. His grandson took over the company years ago, and got rid of them. It was faded red, ( pink) and white. 4x4 transmission, torsion bar suspension, air assist power steering that would intermittently steer easy, then hard.
I really like the story of grandpa as much as I appreciate that beautiful KW.
That low pressure warning arm above the drivers face brings back memories, when I was a boy I would ride with my Dad in his cabover KW one day we were docked at the shipper Dad was inside, truck was off and I was behind the wheel playing truck driver and that low pressure valve spewed and fell down MAN you have never seen someone clear a cabover so fast in your life, I swear I peed my pants 👖 I went on to driver 28 years OTR and logged over 3 million miles and loved every single day of it.
Wig wags is what they were called
@@truckerforlife1980 so true brother but I didn't think most people would know what a "Wig Wag would be
Grandpa, dad, and uncle were truck drivers as am I. Was brought up very old school. I'm 41 but in this industry all my life. I remember driving an old pete with a fuel shut off on the dash.
When I was a kid, all trucks and buses had those wig wags. They also had “dry road-slippery road” switches on the dash. They reduced the front brake application pressure on slippery roads. That was outlawed in the 70’s.
Wow, reminds me of back in the mid eighties when I got hired at a stone quarry. I was trained to drive the bellydump trucks. I remember the low pressure flag hanging down and it being 1:00 am and waiting on the pressure to fill up so the air brakes would work. I worked 12 hour days hauling material from the pit to the plant to be processed into gravel.
Nothing like beautiful old trucks
What a nice man.. His Grand father was a great influence.. I could hang out with this guy and I dont even like a lot of people..
Ding Dong Daddy from the USA... priceless... keep on trucking... the old man's down the road...in fine style.
watching this video brought a smile to my face
Very nice classic truck and seeing the 2 sticker in it brings back great memories
Thank you for showing such a nice old truck
The Love shows in it

Big Cam III. Oh to be back in those simple times!
His grandpa was a very wise gentleman for sure.
Man that truck is clean.
I love it I am a retired diesel mechanic and I am totally impressed great work brother
Hey Mother Trucker. That kind of brought tears to my eyes. My grandfather bought his first truck in 1933 and listed on the National Van Lines and retired in 1973. My father bought his first truck in 1953 period after he got out of the Navy. I'm 57 now and I literally grew up in a truck pulling a moving van I miss good old Trucking.

Definitely a part 2
@@MuthaTrucker 👍👍👍
Great guy Need to have him live every month great knowledge.
Much appreciated I'm building A 46 KW This gives me inspiration
Nice to see! Beautiful job on the restoration
Our fire department had 4 1954 KW engines with a Hall Scott 935 and fire body built by Van Pelt. All 4 served their expected 13 year front line life and two were retired having over 120,000 miles on them. Great cabs!
I Remember those old Hall Scott’s, coffee cans for pistons and square gears, we had a 65 foot stick in my Department at night you could hear that thing all over town, had a special roar
You like Trucks, I like trucks,, You like food, I like food... Well hello!!!,,,You best love Trucks as they is why you get your F@@D... It doesnt grow in the store or at Dominos... Man reminds me of 1st truck I learned to drive in 79 a 2 stick Mack 1960 B61 with a hillbilly built Thermodine that would run &pull pretty good in the triple digits!!!
My Grandad used say "a still tougue made a wise head"
Great interview! It's guys like him that keep the spirit of trucking alive.
U mean that spirit of a suckered being born everyday. Can make more money working at McDonalds. OTR truck driving is for the ignorant fools
@@joemama8379 Typical average American’s response : MONEY above everything !
(at whatever price….)
Who delivers McDonald’s it’s supplies? You ever shop at a grocery store? @Joe Mama
Than man fallowed his grandfather’s advice very hard working man and smart and very knowledgeable

you are a very good interviewer
What a great video, i really enjoy it, greetings from Costa Rica 🇨🇷
Thats a great lesson, definitely going to say it in my head and to my kids. Thats a good one.
Ain't no school like the old school.
Oh how beautiful a rig! Didn't he do a wonderful job. I really enjoyed your enthusiasm and the way you engaged that owner. ( loved the wig-wag, brings back memories, started driving in '88, and had to start by driving really old trucks - newest driver=oldest tractor, lol)
C Anderson - But then they also learned a lot from driving the oldest trucks, for later use
The coffee mug was the candle on that cake! True trucker right there!
Very cool truck. Marty is a very interesting man with some fun
hobbies. 😊
Nothing beats the old timers.
i like the truck and the
rims so much
I want a 80s Freightliner cab over for a daily driver!
Orwell
NAM. YOU GET SOME GREAT STUFF!!!!
Beautiful truck.
very cool!
Drove many types. Loved the Cornbinders CABOVERS 9670s. Drove one of the first in mycounty in Fla. Great short shifter. First tractor, Brockway screaming Detroit diesel. Loaded 40 ft. trailer in head wind maybe 50 mph. 85 now, miss the road. Wonder if there trucks in Heaven? God bless, God speed. 🐻
I sure hope so buddy my pops passed in 2020 he drove 48 states 4 providences of Canada and as far into Mexico as you could get in the 70s his handle was roachclip he trucked out of Jersey originally but settled us in Oklahoma in the 80s i just hope hes jamin down those endless lanes chicken lights glowin smoke rollin cb comin in clear with the prettiest lil honeys callin out for a ride. Roll On!
Beautiful!
Beautiful Ride!
Cool truck man, my dad had a early 50s KW bubble nose. I think it was a 1953.
Awesome!
Beautiful truck sir!
Incredible interview my friend
Super sweet truck
beautiful
Awesome
Beautiful truck, not into the stretched frame thing though. That's a West coast thing I guess. I grew up running Philly, New Jersey, and NYC. The last thing you want is extra frame
I’d rather move then drive a short truck……oh wait, I did!!
Wheelbase
That truck is immaculate for a 1955!
Is beautiful
I love how he has his work shirt on.
Nice rig.
Petition to take more b- roll
I worked 5 years for Great Dane in Indiana.
I would love to see the custom trailer
I grew up in the 80s riding shotgun with my dad and Kenworth was the king of the road then and even tho I never did get into trucking it still is to me . Wouldn't have a Pete for nothing
379 is king thank yuh
Air ride 359…..
Right on 👍👍
Beeeautiful 🤠👍
K whopper . Wow love it .
Beautiful truck 🚚
Oh yeah!!!
That thing is clean
Yess
Everything nice N big in Texas 🇨🇱🇨🇱
Geez what happened to popping that butterfly hood? Still great video of that ole KW.
Dang wanted to hear that run
Good morning from SE Louisiana 16 Oct 21.
Show This Truck and the history!
Today on Off The Ranch
Was this truck built down on East Marginal in Seattle? I toured that factory with our shop class in high school what a neat place. All aluminnum body not to surprising with Boeing up the road.
All aluminum is insane
Back througout era of legnth conserving cabovers, or what us kids called pug noses. It made it that much more exciting when witnessing a full-size Mac or Peterbilt.
BEEN AWESOME 👏 IF THEY WOULD HAVE TALKED ABOUT THE TWO STICKS TRANSMISSIONS & OPENED UP THE BUTER FLY HOOD
TALKED ABOUT THE ENGINE
Good comment, but please don't type in all caps....no matter your age
I appreciate the comment that none of these trucks are the same. As a parts guy for almost 40 years "I need your vin number" It tells me how your truck came off the line.
I have a Friend that owns a 55 KWagon that he is keepin Original as possible, patina an all. I wish I could post pics on here, but
Never mentioned the rear slider
Was that the original frame rail length ?
I'm restoring a 57 International Harvester
Texas man, ok dude!
Funny thing is, Grandpa was sitting in the passenger seat the whole time. 😃
Good video
But I was waiting for him to Fly the butterfly hood see what's in there
Part 2 lol
Have u done any videos talking about what info folks that lease purcase with a carrier... the info that they are required by law to show to the driver?.. Nothing to do with the old school KW... but thanks
Yess I have
That looks extremely inconvenient to steer with that wheel base but what a beaut
After you drive a KW you'll throw rocks at a peterbilt.... KW's are the best in my book!!!
Nope! For me KW's not better than Peterbilt. Too much vibration.
@@devamrikhi3573 ha ha.... peterbilt's are a flimsy POS with refrigerator doors.... why do you think there lighter than KW'S.....
@@timcanizares5240 : I don’t know… I’ve owned 2 w900’s, 1 t600, kenworth, 1 377, and 4 379 Pete’s. I like the Pete’s. And how is it that Pete’s have “ refrigerator doors” ?? They both have basically the same type of doors. Both trucks have basically the same aircraft type construction. I’m not sure how one is better than the other.
I’ve owned 5 Pete 379s…2 w900L and 2 w900B…the W9L is my favorite out of them…but the Pete’s are top notch too! For me it really comes down to how the truck is spec’d out and what combo it’s got
Both made by Paccar
No A model until 1967
Mutha Trucker, my Uncle has this question: With the vehicle electrification craze, how in the world can a Class 8 tow truck operate on an electric motor WITHOUT a PTO for a Rotator?
Right!!!!!
It's easy you just use an electric motor to run the hydraulic pump for the rotator, no big deal at all.
That being said the electric truck thing is a lot of BS. They're way too heavy, and we don't have the charging infrastructure to charge them
Nice ride have a friend who has a 56 stretched it himself built his own sleeper still doing heavy haul carries his bird better than a watch dog and talks a line of road crap.
Nice truck but I hate those old seats with no headrests, imagine driving across country like that! And no AC unless retrofitted!
in america where?what country in america?
Is ATHS open to folks like parts folks, mechanics, folks involved in the transportation industry, but are not owners, or drivers ?
Yes, you don't have to own a truck to become a member
There's no seal around the door other than the bottom of the door, that must be a leaky noisy door.
tractor unit 2 long should be at least 4 foot shorter shorter ruinng gear more torke
Short=👎🏻
Ride like 💩💩
🤌🏻
Legitimate question.
Why They are so long😨
