I was living in GA and applying for paralegal positions in GA and TX. Some of the positions only required 5+ years of paralegal or legal assistant experience, while some required a bachelor degree or a certificate in paralegal studies. I received an online paralegal degree from a major TX university. The instructors explained to us that we needed to know the local rules, what we can put on our resumes about our paralegal experience and what we can say in the interview since we did not have paralegal experience. It was very helpful. I was able to discuss how my professional and personal experiences can transfer.

The paralegal role is such an important one, and that fact that pay is as low as it is in a lot of markets is just maddening. I think the Great Recession beginning around 2008 did a number on the paralegal salary. Salaries are rising again -- but it's a mixed bag in some areas. If you decide to get into the field, research which areas of law pay well (if that's important to you 😉), and focus on honing your skills accordingly.

Do you do mostly freelance work for clients in your area or for clients nationwide remotely?
I work with attorneys all over the United States, but most of my work is done for attorneys in Northern Illinois (Chicagoland area) because I'm well versed in procedure and rules for those jurisdictions. Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate you!

Totally want to see a video about market value for paralegals and firm's requirements who pay pennies. I want to know your perception of the wages who require 4 year degrees and pay less than 50k a year.
