    Work on getting an Associates Degree from an ABA approved program is much more than a tiny bit of education in the various areas of law. Also, taking the Certified Legal Assistant exam furthers prospects of amazing opportunities.

    I was pretty much forced into being a paralegal without going to school. You can land a paralegal job without a certification, like me, and get trained on the job. You're going to get trained anyways. If not, leave immediately! Attorneys all have different methods for how they handle their documents. Sometimes as a paralegal you'll even create a better system than the attorney to get the job done. I have 5 years of experience for elder law related, with a top 10 attorney in my state. There are paralegal programs at universities that allow you to skip a 4 year degree if you have 4 years of experience. I'm getting ready to apply for those programs myself, and someday advance into business related law. My boss is even so nice that she's 100% on board, and wants to help me get in.

    you obviously need a certificate or diploma if you have no past qualifications or experience, you’re catering to an audience of all types.

      People say experience trumps education/certification in the field, but how can you even get experience if you don't have a clue about what to do. If I go to a job interview and I want them to take a chance on me, I would 100% want them to see I know something.

      @@NJMunicipal Exactly what I thought. Every advert I've seen for paralegals demands some certification (and many demand years of experience). I don't think this video offered the best advice.

    I got all my paralegal training (ABA AA degree) and NALA testing for free after completing my BA. I see a lot of job postings wanting both the BA/BA and the ABA certificate. I would get my BA in Paralegal Studies if I could, keep my grades up to leave the door open to law school and MBA.

    Would you recommend get a Paralegal Degree ? Since they will give us actual classes every semester in specific law fields. Also do you recommend someone get a bachelors degree in the paralegal field if they may later be interested in Law School ?

      I also majored in History in undergrad! Minored in Political Science/International Relations. I've been out of school for a few years now and will be going back to community college in the spring to obtain my paralegal certificate. I hope to obtain work with one of the major law enforcement/intelligence agencies and perform substantive legal work for them. (i.e FBI, NSA, etc.)

    Good advice. Do you think there's enough work in the civil rights, environmental protection, employment on behalf of employees type paralegal work? That would be exciting.
    I guess secondarily a personal injury focus could be satisfying to me. I was a court reporter-stenographer for 8 years so I'm very familiar with medical terminology.

    Thank you for doing this video. So for someone with a bachelor and master's degree it doesnt sound like a paralegal certificate is worth it. So would a paralegal certification program be more beneficial on a resume?

    • @AnthonySPark
      @AnthonySPark  3 роки тому +1

      Usually no. But find a few jobs/lawyers you’d theoretically like to work for, and ask if a cert would help them decide to hire you

    Are there any firms you'd reccomend to work at within NY/NJ area that will hire with no experience while I obtain my certificate, also does it matter if I go for a aba approved certificate or can I still get hired with a paralegal program from NACC (new american chamber of commerce) paralegal program online?
