- I go over the steps it took to build the custom dash for my Victory Cross Country. Hopefully this will help if you decide to build something similar for your bike!
Here are several links to the products I used during this build:
The ribbon cable used was a 60 pin 0.5mm thick 500mm long ribbon cable. I was able to find a supplier on Ebay for roughly $10 at the time of making this video.

Great innovation man! As a biker and an installer, I’ll have to keep this in mind.
Thanks man! A little work and most things are possible. Thanks for checking out the video and good luck with future installs!
Wow this looks great. Just got a ‘13 XC Touring and would love to do something like this. Unfortunately I have about 2% of the skills and knowledge in this area that you do. Great work!
Fantastic video - thanks for posting
Wow; great job ; nice sound!
Good job; great presentation!
Nick Heinz thanks man, appreciate it
That's a very nice looking product. I don't have the patience for that project. Great job.
Thanks man! It definitely took some hours...
Man that's nice , I wish that could be done on my woc fairing
Thanks man. You might be able to, don't know much about the dimensions of those. I was told by 2 custom shops that the screen wouldn't work down there to keep the stock gauges. Where there's a will, there's a way 😉
Good job man
Incredible, you are gifted. (seriously) that is some ingenuity: the bike is absolutely beautiful. I am not a man skilled with painting, the fiberglass looks doable (you explained step by step in a confidence building lesson). Tell me (out of curiosity) and NOT trying to invade your privacy: you had previous skill/employed in paint/body work? Either way....God gave you the engineering gift.
Thanks Mario! Yea I grew up working on cars and painting them with my dad. He had a personal body shop and I did a lot of work over the years. No professional by any means, but I'm not new to the process.
Amazing bro
Badass. I don't have the patience to make it but would love to have it done on mine:)
Thanks Brent. It was some work for sure...
VERY nice fab work & paint. How does the stereo head unit stand up to the rain? How many rain showers has it went through in the past 6 or so years?
How did you get the stock hand controls for the stereo to work with the after market radio?
Excellent
I have watched your video numerous times and cant thank you enough for posting it here. Especially after the photobucket fiasco from the forums. But i do have one question. Since you installed this on your bike have you had any issues with cracking or chipping on the modification itself?
Thank you! Glad it has been helpful for you! I've been running this for almost a year. Waited a few months after I primed everything to make sure it would function well. I've probly put 3k miles on with the mod. There's not even any cracking in the paint. It is super solid. That dynaglass really makes it rigid. I have no doubt this mod will last the life of the bike (structurally). Unless someone takes a hammer to it! But it's kind of tucked under the main dash and tank so I don't think anything would ever hit it either. Hope that helps!
This is great work man. I wish I had the talent and resources that you've demonstrated here. Can you share a pic of the inside of your bags finish with speakers? Did you have a sub somewhere?
Thanks man. I haven't added speakers to the bags yet, just replaced them in the tour pack to the hertz 5.25 coaxial. No sub. Eventually I'll add bag lid speakers and probably a sub, but it'll probably be next year before that happens. Too many other things money and time is going towards.
Wats goin on man I luv it I finally did it to my bike and I luv it thanks to you alot
No prob man! Glad I could help, it's a pretty sweet mod!
Yes I think everyone with a victory like this needs this radio... if had it done goin on a year now jux haven't got back on to thank you... I will try and send u some pics...
Heck yea, my email is on the About section on my UA-cam channel.
@@LifeofBliss hey man I dnt see the email
@@sheroidsimmons4853 lifeofblisskb@gmail.com
Nice work! How did you get the radio control to work with the new radio? I'm having issues with adding a Pioneer DMH-C2550NEX to work my X1 radio controls.
I went over the module I had to buy... it was in the part where I was installing everything under the fairing, sorry I can't remember the name off hand
Great job enjoy.
Keith Dowd thanks man appreciate it! It's definitely been a nice upgrade.
Are the pins 90 degrees to the ribbon, or in line? Thanks. Great job BTW.
I think I know what you're asking... but everything is in line. The contact points on the ribbon are flat (not at a 90 degree angle on the end) and they slide straight into the connectors. The ribbon plugs in the back of the screen running along the back, not sticking out 90 degrees. Hope that answers your question, let me know if not. Thanks man!
Awesome. I’ll be using your video to help me making mine. I do have a question. Will making the box of acrylic be a good idea? Like will I be able to “weld/joint/etc” to the frame?
Yea you can make that box out of anything really. I'd just scuff up the area you use the duraglass on so it gets a good strong hold.
Life of Bliss Awesome. Thank you for the tip. And congratulations on the new addition to the family. I saw it on FB Victory Page.
Thanks man! Good luck with your project too, it's a sweet upgrade
I have a 2015 Victory Magnum I wanna change my stock radio to a custom radio 6.5. Where can I get a Harness for my bike?
It's very radio specific. This harness only works for that head unit I used in the video
awesome job. I'm gonna do this . Did you take the arms that make the radio tilt off?
I left the arms on the brain. No reason to take them off. Just don't press the button to lower them 👍
@@LifeofBliss Got it thanks a bunch. wish me luck lol
Can you make the double din stereo for someone and if so how much do you charge????
I honestly don't have the time to do so right now. It was a very time intensive project. Sorry man, hopefully the video will help if you want to make your own or if you can find someone local maybe to help!
Also how did you determine what head units will work with the brain in one place and screen in another?
I looked for a screen that could be removed from the unit as a security measure. I honestly didn't know if this particular unit would work before purchasing. I got lucky and was able to find the right cables to make it work. As far as I know, all of the pioneer NEX 4xxx series head units will function like this and use the same ribbon cable
@@LifeofBliss thanks I ordered the 4500. Going to start mine. I am going to try to make the mounting tray that you made out of fiberglass out of abs plastic.
@@chadwilliam1 that's a better option I think. I didn't thunk about that when doing mine. A lot less work... you might look into kydex plastic as well. You can get pretty thick pieces that are very durable for a decent price. I haven't priced out abs plastics
Hey I like how you made this is this something you do on the side if so can I pay you for one I’m looking for something just like this
I'm not able to make any more at the moment, don't have the time. This was just a project I did for myself. Sorry man
How is the screen with gloves on?
It'll work ok, but I use the hand controls for most things. I'll set navigation before I head out anywhere so I usually never touch the screen while riding
Are the pins on the ribbon forward facing or reverse facing?
I'm not sure I completely understand what you are asking, but the pins face down towards the circuit boards and the black bar snaps down to hold them in place. Please let me know if that's not helpful!
What connector did you use?
Life of Bliss What connector did you use for the Vic dash build?
where did you get the 6.5 speaker bracket?
Hawg wired AR65 rings. On Amazon, witch doctors, and a few other places

How deep can a head unit be for this to work? I wanna tackle this project but I don’t wanna start by getting the perfect head unit only to find out it’s too deep and hits the bars. I figure I need to stick with a 7” screen unit, but just wanna make sure what depth I should stay at. Thank you!
You won't be able to fit a full head unit on the fairing, double or single din. You'll only be able to fit the face plate which is pretty thin, only about an inch or so
@@LifeofBliss I was told almost the same thing by Dave Azzopardi.. but I’ve seen ppl doing it. Even tho I can do car audio myself.. looks like imma have to just break down and take it somewhere and just pay to have it done😞
I was told there's no way to do a double din, so I did it myself 😉 but seriously, there's physically no room to do a full stereo in the dash in the stock location. The brain has to go in the fairing. If you're seeing dashes with stereos in the stock location, it's either how I did it or how Dave does it, with the faceplate separated from the brain
@@LifeofBliss sweet, if all the ways I’ve seen, I like yours the best, it looks like the dash was made that way… clean👌I guess I have just 2 questions lol…
1) what do you do when you get caught in rain cuz I don’t think there’s any touch screens that are water resistant.
2) do you, or have you considered getting paid to do this, I only ask that because if I have to, I’m gonna tackle this at the risk of messing up my dash lol but if an expert can do it, I would pay!! Lol
If it rains, I just remove the face plate. Inconvenient, but beats damaging it. I doubt I'd be listening to music in heavier rain so I could focus. Light Rain and sprinkles it doesn't really get wet.
I would love to make these for others, but honestly man I just don't have the time right now. Just bought some land and a house and I've been busting my butt to get things in order here. Only rode a handful of times to the gym and back this year so far!
Doing the same upgrade... How has yours been holding up?
Holding up great! No issues at all. Best mod I've done to date. Good luck with making yours!
Life of Bliss awesome! I made the tray out of abs, so fingers crossed it comes out as good as yours!
I'm sure it will! Be sure to let me know if you post pics anywhere so I can see it!
Life of Bliss will do! Are you on FB?
Oh yea, email me at lifeofblisskb@gmail.com
How is this holding up?
works like the day I installed it. No issues at all
Do you still have the XC?
Yep still running strong
@@LifeofBliss thanks. I was a Vic guy myself, however I jumped over to Indian back in 15. I still ride with all my Vic boyz all the time. Nice upgrade I think two of my friends would love that as well.
I'm having a hard time finding ribbons they length eBay doesn't have it only short
Anything above 350-400mm would be long enough. As long as the width is correct, you have a range you can grab the length in
@@LifeofBliss I bought a 60 Pins 0.5mm Pitch 150mm FPC FFC Flexible Ribbon Cable for LCD TV Car Audio DVD but I noticed on the stock ribbon it's 105c & 90v the cable I have is 80c & 60v can't find one with matching stock ribbon numbers
I think it should still work fine. I think mine was the same markings as yours. You might run into the ribbon not being long enough though depending on where you mount the brain. You can at least test the cable so you know it works then grav a longer one if needed
@@LifeofBliss yea that's what my problem is it's not working with new cable but I put the small black on back on and it works I noticed the numbers were different but it's still a 60 pin 0.05
Be sure the conductors are facing the right direction when you put the wire in the clips, if that makes sense. Not trying to say you aren't doing it right, but just something to verify
