      It’s not a traditional or classical Ryukuan or Japanese form. People often make up “kata” because they do not know the original version or the founder’s direct student(s) variations. Even the form you learn from a founder or their lifelong student, while it should always look the same, the bunkai will reflect the teacher’s level of understanding at that specific time in their own evolution.
      Even after 60 + years of training on Okinawa and other islands in the archipelago, in Japan, Hawaii and even on the mainland I can “perform” almost every Okinawa and Japanese variations. For example, like Shorin Ryu, Matsubayashi Ryu, Shotokan and Shotokai kata, including Wado Ryu and Shito Ryu variations. Every Classical Shuri te Tomari te and Naha Te forms as well as their off shoots such as Shorin ryu Goju Ryu (as well as the additions by Miyagi Shinshi’s first generation students/teachers. Not caring for the unauthorized, self promoting Goju Kai though. They number over one hundred and thirty one that I have dedicated to muscle memory, but I can’t say I fully understand a single one. Any one who says different is not worth training with or training under. Everyday we train, we should become more critical and discerning of our previous understanding. Like the views each new day presents as we climb further up a mountain, will present different perspectives than the previous day; influenced by everything we see, hear, try, and even research further than past levels. The basic bunkai is only 1/5th of the often forgotten 5 levels of understanding that many originators are said to have packed into a simple choreographed form.
      The only thing we really learn from Kata is that we have so much more to learn from any respective kata.

      @@donoberloh I meant I liked it for the fact that it was short, got to the meat and potatoes, and was vicious with legitimate techniques that were clear to understand.

    It could become a kata if all four directions were covered. It is definitely a devastating technique!

    • @BryanLininger-xd1ys
      @BryanLininger-xd1ys 11 місяців тому +1

      You don’t need multiple directions in kata . That is the enbision rule and gives people the wrong idea of kata . There is no “ enemy coming from the Left enemy coming from the right enemy coming from behind “ .

      @KarateUnity  11 місяців тому +1

      @@BryanLininger-xd1ys absolutely correct. This small six move micro kata… believe me when I tell you, is packed with a ton of concepts that can be used for combat sport and self-defence…. My teacher showed me how to strike, trap, and defend using these techniques

    Actually a training set of the same technique (enpi uchi- hijiate performed in different direction or in a different variation is still a practice drill, and while excellent for embedding these physical movement to one’s muscle memory, they will never be a Kata in the tradition sense. Enpi no kata would be training drill for enpi uchi,

      Thank you once again for the information.
      I think at the end of the day, no matter what you call it, as long as the set of movements and concepts helps you develop set of attributes and skills…. I think we can agree that it’s a win-win situation for the student.
