    I think people really stress themselves out when it comes to being vegan, I’m vegan but honestly when someone is veggie or stops drinking milk any small thing I’m always super supportive!! Any small thing is wonderful so don’t be too stressed if you’re trying something like this out but aren’t perfect. n_n

      Couldn't agree more. Small changes at a time are such an easier way to transition and is less discouraging for some people.

      I am vegan & have never felt better but I agree that being vegetarian is a great option for people who are struggling to go vegan straight away & switching from dairy to non dairy/vegan substitutes is another geat option 😊

      Leenie Legs I decided I wanted to go vegan only last week after watching some documentaries I cannot unsee. But I feel like sometimes if you set out to ‘climb a mountain’ you can get a bit daunted at becoming perfect and cutting everything out at once. I’m a perfectionist by nature and actually quite embarrassed by my own ignorance around food now I’ve had that mind shift, however I’m taking it in stages as I know I’ll get to full vegan that way! X

    Hi sammi! I just wanted to address the UV thing. I have a bachelors in cellular and molecular biology and masters in microbiology and UV lights (any kind - sun exposure, uv machines, etc) damage the DNA in the cells therefore inducing skin cancer. This is not a myth - it is real. Any type of UV. So those manicures not only promote to skin ageing but also, and more preocupating, skin cancer. I am baffled how it is allowed and such a common practice and most people aren't even aware of this. Safety and health should always be first. Love youuu

      Hey, very curious about this. Do you think using sunscreen would limit some of the damage from the UV lamps?

    • @meridoughten9425
      @meridoughten9425 6 років тому

      I completely agree! I'm an aesthetician specializing in laser and light therapy and getting regular gel manicures is not safe without protection! Sunscreen is an option, but there are a lot of factors that will affect how much protection you actually receive. The best idea I've seen to date is getting sun protective gloves and cutting off the finger tips. Hope this helps! ❤❤❤

    • @tridevic
      @tridevic 6 років тому +2

      Kingdom Oracles your argument is fallacious:
      1. There have many many generations of people that were never diagnosed with cancer. That doesn’t mean cancer isn’t real. It’s either because a) medical science has advanced enough to detect and classify cancer b) our environment has changed, exposing us to more free radicals which can cause cancer.
      2. Warm climate has little to do with sun exposure. In many warm countries people are either indoors a lot or use other forms of sun protection (I.e. parasols, shades, clothing that covers a lot of skin). Equally, the incidence of skin cancer is high in some warm weather countries. Look up the stats for skin cancer in Australia.
      3. It is a known scientific fact that UV rays cause cancer. There are many robust scientific studies that are backed by data.
      4. Wearing sunscreen is not the only way to protect yourself and it’s certainly not a perfect way. In fact the best way is staying out of the sun completely. You can also use hats, clothing, shade etc. Sunscreen provides that much extra protection on the margin, when you won’t realistically stay out of the sun.
      5. This is also proven strongly with scientific evidence and backed by every legit national and international association of dermatologists.

      Hi Joana, was wondering if sunbeds are worse for your skin than actually lying in the sun? Aren't the rays in tanning beds more controlled? Thank you!

    Everyone complaining that Sam isn’t a “proper vegan” for buying docs and reinforcing that it’s a lifestyle as well as a diet... please get in the bin. Like actually have a day off - it’s incredible she’s even tried it as a diet for a week and I’m sure the rest will come in time if it’s something Sam enjoyed! But for 10000% reading through the comments and seeing everyone hop on her dick for not being wholly vegan all week is definitely not helpful or positive or doing anything good for trying to change the way people see veganism. As vegans we should praise people for even trying it as a diet for a week - don’t be a dick about it. Constructive criticism is different - helpfully informing is different to being condescending. Food for thought y’all (no pun intended). YAAASS SAM QUEEN YOU NAILED IT HONEY🤙🏽👌🏽

      I can’t see anyone criticising her, just correcting the title of the video? Along with encouraging the fact that she’s even tried eating vegan food for a week? And that’s ok - people aren’t haters for that.

    • @guillianademetrez9675
      @guillianademetrez9675 6 років тому +10

      It's not the fact that she's buying docs in general....it's the fact that it's in this video about being vegan. It's just a little ironic is all. A plant based diet is the more appropriate term.

    It's great you're trying out and introducing more plant-based meals to your daily life!
    I'm sure you're going to get lots of messages about this but veganism is a lifestyle, plant-based is a diet. When you're vegan, it means avoiding any and all products made from animals, which means no meat, eggs, dairy, etc. as well as no leather, wool, silk, etc. or beauty products made with or tested on animals.
    But regardless of whether you "go full vegan", adopt a plant-based diet, or just eat less meat - what you're doing is great. Thank you for showing how good plant-based foods can be :)

  • @hellogoodbye201409
    @hellogoodbye201409 6 років тому +4

    As someone who never thought they'd end up being vegan, I think the easiest way to try things out and play with cutting out animal products is just slowly substitute different groups- ie, start using alternatives to dairy, stop eating red meat, stop eating meat at home, etc etc and eventually you'll be there! But, remember, there's no pressure to be "perfect" or do everything at once! Do what feels comfortable for you and your body :)

    i told myself i was going to go vegan for a month, just to see, and i've been vegan now for more than 2 years! i attribute that mostly to the fact that during that time, i educated myself more on the ethics of veganism and the cruelty involved in the animal agriculture industries, which i hadn't even known about going into it (mostly just wanted to try it bc the food looks delicious and i was trying to eat better). i really encourage you to do so as well if you haven't already! watch the best speech you'll ever hear by gary yurofsky (ua-cam.com/video/es6U00LMmC4/v-deo.html) as well as earthling ed's newer speech (ua-cam.com/video/Z3u7hXpOm58/v-deo.html). they're both highly informative and empowering, and really focus on the ethical aspect of veganism. once i stopped seeing veganism as simply a "diet" it changed everything for me! hope you continue on this journey, it's the best thing ever! good luck.

    I think its very important people adress this topic. Veganism is nothing but commitment and enjoying whats fair to enjoy, not what isnt yours to take (from animals). Thanks for addressing the topic in such an entertaining and dinamic way, showing different options and how we can relate to veganism not neccessarily labeling ourselves as one. Personally, Ive been vegan for around 4 years now and Im so grateful I made that decision. Thank you again!

Tesco is my go to place for EVERYTHING (except fruit and veg - market, it's cheaper!) Plus you can eat cereal/oats like normal, just with dairy free milk!

    I LOVE your outfit with the new docs! I love an all black outfit haha. I go by a 'flexitarian' method diet wise, I have 300g or less of meat and fish per week (usually works out at around 2 meals). I eat eggs and occasionally cheese but not often. I have soya/almond milk and soya yoghurt in replacement of all other dairy.

    As a vegan, what makes it really worth it for me and keeps me going is after every meal, no matter if it's unhealthy of not, I can really feel like it I did something meaningful. Like I can make so much change with something as simple as a meal. For my body, the environment and the animals. It is (for me atleast) an active choice to try and make things better for both myself and others 😊

    Yayyyy!!! so happy you're giving it a go, I went vegan like a year ago and it's really changed everything in my life for the better. I lost a bunch of weight at first and then it just plateaued and I feel so light and have more energy than I ever did, even as a vegetarian!! Happy you're feeling the positive effects too :)

    This was an amazing video Sammy. Thank you for sharing and showing that being vegan (especially in London) is easy, affordable, no restrictive and actually very tasty. I think anyone can thrive on this diet and it's so good for your overall health (physical and mental), but also one of the most effective diet for the environment and for the animals, let's not forget that. I really appreciated the fact that you did it without going too much into details, just naturally and being positive about it. Being vegan (and I am not the only one saying that) is the best decision I've ever made. It's seriously the best! I am so glad you did that and I am please to hear that you will go vegan one day, I totally support that. I admire you so much for your open-mindset and being a genuine and compassionate person.

    Oh my god, Indy is too cute for words. What a funny little bunny. By the way the toys box is awesome. Great job! We had something similar when our kids were young and they loved it. It would be so cool to attach a little bucket or something similar to the front next to the chalk board that will hold chalk

    Loved this Sammi! The Flora Dairy Free spread is my fave btw! It's much more buttery in my opinion :) I always think that if you're unsure, remember it doesn't have to be such a binary thing. If there are certain dishes that you love and can't imagine giving up, maybe just eat those and make other choices the rest of the time. I know people are a little much online but people want to put you in a box and life is much more complex than that. I know you already eat loads of veggie dishes anyway, that curry looked amazing!

    This was really interesting to watch and quite similar to my own experience with switching to a plant-based diet, I've been vegan for little over a year now and I'm loving it, because I feel so much better and have more energy. And like you said, there's no need to eat 100% healthily all the time, just have fun with it. Would love to see more content like this, maybe your favorite vegan recipes or substitutes :))

    Yay I loved this! I went vegan at the beginning of the year and was very similar to you with how I toyed with the idea for so long. I kept putting it off and finding excuses as for why not to go vegan but eventually couldn’t bring myself to eat meat or dairy anymore.
    I went from meat eater straight to vegan and have found my health improve so much, I don’t have asthma anymore!
    Would love to know more about your reasons behind wanting to go vegan and what it is that’s drawing you to it x

    I did shellac as a job for 7 years and in the training with cnd they told us that the amount of time you spend in the lamp curing your shellac is the same amount of exposure you would get just walking to the shop, it’s not enough to age your hands ☺️ so don’t worry Sam x

      So in theory, could you cure your nails on a walk outside?

    • @HookedByKate
      @HookedByKate 6 років тому

      xburningindigo yeah it would take a while though. Where as in a nail lamp your nails are directly in the light, but now LED lamps are used which I’ve noticed are so much quicker at curing.

    Im glad you showed that you were eating vegan donuts . Because some people thinks being vegan means always eating healthy and not having fun with food, but no you can have lots of yummy vegan cake . its nice to see you being happy about your week , i saw few peope on youtube trying vegan and just complain about it every time. But you didnt , you are always exicting about new things , i love it , your video was very interesting . And like you said in London It might be easier to find vegan food. like it is in paris. I live in a smaller town in France its wasnt easy to find veggie or vegan food , but for the past year we have new restaurant , new option and its good . When you are new in the veggie or vegan world , its seems quite hard at first , but you need to look more and try new things and try to cook also; you showed us quite a few things in your video so it gives more ideas to people. So i thinks it could be interesting to show us when you doing another vegan week or day . Love from France

    My local news special report warned people using UV lights in curing gel nails. Dermatologists have noticed a spike in skin cancer around the hands and nails in women (not exactly sure if UV lights are the direct link to nail & hand skin cancer) but Dr.s recommend that ppl should apply sunscreen 20 mins. before the curing process.

    Cutting out meat was the simplest thing I've ever done. I don't know if it's just the time, so many places have options, but I've never missed meat. I miss things that have hidden meat, like Popeyes fries are cooked with chicken lard, and some things hide beef fat or bacon in them. But changing my diet was so easy.

    I really enjoyed this, Sam! I’ve been considering eating more vegan meals. It’s hard to do where I live and slightly expensive, but I enjoy the thought of feeling lighter and eating less meat. I like beans and nuts and other forms of protein and I’m already lactose intolerant so veganism may not be as difficult as I anticipated. 😅

    About the UV light, some nail salons in Prague apply sunscreen for you before putting your hand in the UV light box 🤔 so maybe the light’s not best for you? But I don’t think it’ll age faster without it 🤔 🤷🏻‍♀️

    I'm not necessarily Vegan, but ever since I started feeling like I was becoming intolerant to Milk, I started cooking things from scratch and cutting things out. I have Gilbert's Syndrome (Liver Disorder) and found out I'm supposed to cut out Dairy, Processed Food, Sugar, Junk Food, Fried Food etc. I would have the worst stomach pains and be hurled over in pain. As I've said thought it was intolerance. Now I have Almond Milk, no stomach pains. I cook from scratch, still have the odd bit of Chocolate and I'm fine. 13 Pounds down so far since February and cutting calories.

    I worry about the UV light too! I went to a Korean nail salon in LA when I still lived there and she would give me fingerless gloves that only expose the nails!! Super nice touch.

  • @kei-chwan
    @kei-chwan 6 років тому

    UV lights used in the nail lamps are actually not that intense, they do not produce uvb or uvc, only a small spectrum of uva-2, and mostly uv-1 (the least risky one) so actually you are more prone to uv light when you drive a car or when talking through a cellphone. ;) You'd have to have your nails done over 30 times to even be compared to a 30 minute exposition to a softest lamp in a tanning salon. So no worries here. But of course, wearing an spf on hands is as much important as wearing it on your face but people tend to forget about it. :)

    Excited for you Sam! I think it's always great to try the things you want to do. I talked about trying veganism as a diet and a lifestyle for years and just one day finally did it. I've been vegan for three years and I'm very happy with how it's influenced my health and happiness. It's easier if you have vegan friends to support you and share recipes with. Ignore the people calling this a trend, veganism is here to stay. Good luck!
