    To your final question: I will say that the biggest downside to streaming is fidelity. The fidelity of streaming, no matter how "UHD" they make it, still can't keep up with physical media in terms of audio or visuals. Streaming SUCKS when you have a premium at-home theater, Blu-Ray and 4K UHD disc is the ONLY way to experience movies at home if you're trying to truly "EXPERIENCE" it. VOD is adequate for watching and the novelty of seeing the movies at the same time as they would be in the theater has its place, however, until VOD can catch up to physical media in terms of fidelity, there will always be a place for the theater an buying an actual physical copy.

    I enjoyed this informative video. I don't see theaters going away soon though it may take a bit to recover from the recent viral outbreak. I will admit though, to me, purchasing a digital copy through one of the online streaming services is cheaper than going to the theater. When we go as a family, even matinee tickets can cost $50 or so for 4 people. That is not including snacks. If I am patient and buy a digital copy when it comes out, I spend at tops (so far) $25 and I can watch it as many times as I wish. And the times are also more convenient.
    There are some movies though I do make a point of seeing in our local Dolby, Prime or IMAX theaters. Avengers, Star Wars, Bond. Those with action and "ear candy" my home setup can't quite do justice. Thank you again for taking the time to make your informative videos.

    I agree with everything you said. Even the study of the ages of people that go to the movies...in my 20’s I would go once a week now in my 30’s you can’t pay to go sit in a theater. On top of everything stated in this video movie theaters aren’t even safe anymore and watching these movies at home you can pause for bathroom breaks, snake breaks, smoke breaks. Be with your family in the comfort of your living room or if you’re alone you can be naked for all that matters. This is the new way this is the future, any of you theater fanatics before enjoy them while they last.

    I think Alamo Drafthouse will survive as they not only play classic and new releases, but charge more for tickets/ concessions and don’t have very many locations compared to a national chain like Regal or AMC. That may change though due to their upcoming Alamo unlimited pass (which allows you to see 1 movie once a day, similar to movie pass). As for everyone else, it’s gonna be every business for themselves.

    04:40, in terms of home theater, I couldn't agree with you more! I'm definitely an "enthusiast" so my numbers skew towards the 'ridiculous', but my home theater audio system just recently cracked over 25,000 watts with our latest purchases and coupling that with multi-row seating and HD picture (soon to be Dolby Vision with our new projector) and you have literally NO reason to go to a cinema. I'm pretty sure, other than screen size, I'm out performing many professional cinemas and, as you mentioned later in this video, I don't have to deal with people walking in front of me, people on their phone . . .or just people in general.
    When CBS released Invisible Man on VOD, the price was a bit high at $20 USD to rent, but I watched the movie twice during the rental period and I could have as many people watching with me as could fit in the seats. Way better experience both in terms of comfort and in terms of the audio/visual experience.

    I think that movie theatres will continue to pivot to an elite upscale environment that will be nice to go to on occasion, but will still become very expensive. There will be more and more streaming services with more and more content. The content will be generally high-quality: what we'd consider good for television and most low budget films now. Streaming services will compete with traditional production companies/studios to produce their own streaming-only blockbuster content, while standard theatrical releases will end up on streaming much faster, but I don't think simultaneously. Another thing we may see is, since more and more streamers are emerging, is streaming packages of different streamers coming together so that people can finally save money on these things. It would basically be Cable 2.0. You pick the package you want that comes with the streamers you want for a reduced price.

      Theaters are dead because the experience is simply not that good. Digital theaters have ruined the special experience. The image you see in a theater is not that different from that at home. Theaters have seen off TV, VHS, DVD and so on but their lack of projection quality with poor movie choices have put them into terminal decline.

    I think that there is always time in which to watch anything on your cell phone or lap top, but you’re not going to get a better view like you would get at a local theater in getting out of your house and at least be able into doing something with your time instead of just sitting at home. You would at least have a better feel even though the cost is about much but its worth it on certain occasions. Even though you probably do have a large big screen at home that is nice along with it’s surround sound and high quality definition. It’s not quite the same thing but almost the same as going to see a movie at a local theater, so why would anybody give up on getting out to be able to have a experience just to be able to sit at home.

    Studios make the movies, theaters are allowed to show them. Theaters, TV, VHS, DVD, Bluray, streaming. Movies aren't dependent on format, but the exact opposite is true. @MrPAULONEAL 4 роки тому

      @@MovieUniversity You can't even compare those with watching a movie. The only difference between watching a movie at a theater and at home is the size of the screen. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't go to a concert just to see it on a screen without the band actually being there.

    • @MovieUniversity
      @MovieUniversity  4 роки тому +5

      There an absolutely comparison since both venues offer entertainment directly in front of you. And people pay big money to go to holographic concerts all the time. Not only do those three examples give you direct correlations about the movie industry but so too does the one I give in the video about stage plays still being around.
      By not caring about the screen size or sound quality, you just told me you care more about the story line of a movie versus the experience or the impact those two things can have when making a movie. Directors intentionally shoot movies to be enjoyed on the best and largest viewing format possible, not a 5 inch size screen. As I mentioned in the video, there are pros and cons to watching movies at home and in theaters.

    This is about cutting out the middle man and significantly lowering the cost of entertainment. In the process, Hollywood is about to lose out on billions every year and this is a good thing. The "Hollywood Elite" will become streaming service actors who will be lucky to get a fraction of what they used to get for each film. Studios will have to shop around for the lowest production prices and will gravitate towards low tax red states like Georgia. Hollywood will join Broadway as a has been of US culture and our country will be far better off because of this.
