- I recently bought the standard height Lovells suspension upgrade kit for my Ezytrail Stirling GT Mk1 and the Lovells team were excellent to deal with. One of their installers gave me a call on my request and talked me through the steps and tips for installation.
I wanted to pay it forward for other novice mechanics that might want to give this a go with a video tutorial as I couldn't find anything when I was doing my research.
Please excuse the camera angles at times. My five year old daughter did the filming - though she did pretty well considering I barely told how to do it!
I hope this encourages others to give it a go - it's a great way to learn about your trailer.
I've watched this twice now, a year apart. You did a great job of presenting this video and make it look pretty easy! Well done.
Fitted my Lovells suspension upgrade to my Stirling GT Mk 1 today. Your video was a good reference. Appreciate you making and posting. Thanks, Victor.
You're welcome! Glad it was helpful!
Good vid mate, one recommendation I would make is to mouse the D shackles on the retention chain, you can use tie wire but I would recommend you use stainless steel zip ties. They will come undone and you will loose them !
Cheers
Great video mate, well explained and makes it look easy. I’m off to by my upgrade 👍
Instead of a retention chain, you should always use a limit strap, as used on offroad trucks. Limit straps do not rattle, and they do not create a severe jolt to the chassis if you fully extend the suspension.
Hey Victor. Thanks for this mate. Have the same type of camper. Just waiting for the weather to clear and may have a go at this ( Canberra shouldn’t be this wet this time of year). Great camera work too by the way.😊
mate, thank you for the video, its what I've been looking for, your a legend
Haha thanks! I had the same problem when I was first doing my research
Thanks for this very informative video. Well explained. I’m now confident in doing my suspension upgrade.👍
You’re welcome!
Hi Victor, very informative video, thank you. 👍😀
In the video I say that the shocks shouldn't be able to be compressed by hand. I've since learnt that this isn't correct. They can be compressed by hand, but you should feel decent resistance in either direction of down or up. The one that was leaking definitely felt easy to compress by hand though - like it was empty.
Great job 👍 Thanks for sharing
Top job, well presented: 👍
Great video much appreciated
👍👍👍 top vid.
Top job cutie camera person lol
Nice job. Your daughter is very cute.
those shocks don’t have a spring in them or compressed gas, same as the tough dog shocks, the spring does that work.
Hi Victor, this was a very informative video. Wanted to though, was a wheel alignment required after install as I'm sure the geometry may have been altered? If so how far out did it throw your alignment? 👍
Hey Scott, yes wheel alignment is definitely modified as a result of taking everything apart. I did do a wheel alignment on it myself, though it probably wasn't the most accurate given I did it on a slightly off level driveway and I was learning about it at the time.
Probably easy enough just to take it somewhere to get it done, or you could also give aligning it yourself a try. Cruisemaster does a great video showing how they do the alignment on theirs that will show you how to do it.
Hi Victor, great video, well explained. Thank you.. couple of questions, how have you found the new set up? Also, in the video the new spring looks a little longer than the old spring, did the ride height increase or did they just compress a bit more? Asking as i have ordered a new camper and considering the lovells products for an immediate upgrade, cheers Graham
Hey Graham, I haven’t had the camper trailer for a long time now, but when I did the upgrade - I did notice it was more stable on the road but it’s not life changing :).
With the spring, yes it did lift it up, perhaps around 2 inches though I didn’t measure it and I also put 33’s on it at the time. They normally settle after a little bit, but the standard springs definitely did lift it a bit
GM. How much was the kit$??? ... Good video mate
Here's the kit on their website: lovellssp.com.au/product/ezytrail-stirling-gt-stirling-gt-mkii/.
Around $1000 incl GST
How do you like them. Just ordered mine yesterday
Yeah they seem to be doing good, nice and stable on the road that a lot of the time you don’t even notice it. Though I think my rear springs are too soft so the handling isn’t as good as it can be.
