    It’s a great feeling when you use a compound and you have the shakes, your adrenaline is pumping, you almost zone out and block it all out till you hear that thump and it all comes rushing back at once and everything just over comes you. Yeah it’s great with a rifle or crossbow but you get so much closer and beating them at their own game, being quite and not moving, sneaking your draw back and connecting on that ethical shot, it’s a great feeling.

    Awesome job with the bow to start.
    A couple pointers, when the arrow rattles when it hits your bow, your field tip/broadhead is loose.
    USUALLY, the yardage starts at an even number, and usually it's 20 yards, as there isn't much drop in the first 20 yards on modern compounds. Obviously you were money with your shots so I wouldn't change much lol
    When loading the bow, instead of reaching around the back side to load an arrow, hold your bow kind of flat, rotating your wrist to the right. This kind of gives you a shelf to work off of so you can nock your arrow then close your rest. That way you have more control of your arrow when nocking.
    Otherwise, keep shooting and having fun, I'd recommend keeping the deer under 40 yards for an ethical kill, but it all comes down to the shot placement.
    Good luck this season, hope you are still able to find time with the new born!

    Don’t know if you will see this but in my experience with my fall food plots, I typically fertilize with 10-10-10 like a day or two before I plant, then till the fertilizer into the ground. Or put the fertilizer on after the plot grows and has a good stand around 4-6 weeks after planting. There is a good possibility that putting the fertilizer on burnt up your stand before it was big enough to handle the fertilizer. Good luck there is nothing more satisfying as making a food plot and the deer utilize it all winter!

  • @jons7e
    @jons7e 3 роки тому

    Heck yeah... archery is a whole other level of hunting and a ton of fun. Seeing how excited you were getting... that's exactly why people bow hunt. More challenging, but way more fun than a rifle.
    Your shoulder that holds up the bow will hurt when you aren't use to it. Start off on a lower draw weight, and take everything off the bow you don't have to have on it, and work your way up over time. Approach it like you would working out... shoot a bit, take a day off, etc. When you shoot, shoot one or two arrows then go pull (which lets you rest the shoulder between shots). Over time you will build up to do more and more.
    Plan on taking shots within 30 yards with your setup, and you'll be good to go.
    With that draw weight, plan on using cut on contact sharp broadheads (no expandable).
    Your top pin is set to 20 yards, and 10 yard increments from there (30, 40, 50, 60). You need to do walk back tuning and adjust each pin to those yards.
    I'm all into this... hit me up if you need advice on archery / bow related stuff.

    Yo Flair, I’m a bow tech and here’s my two cents. 50 lbs you could probably effectively kill a deer at around 40-50 yards. Your pins are most likely set at 10 yard increments.

    Most people set their pins up starting at 20 yards then go in 10-yard increments. A 20-yard pin is normally good for everything less than 20. But at a bare minimum before you try and shot at a deer practice a little with your broadheads into a foam target. It's very common for broadheads to be off compared to your field points depending upon your bow's tune. With your low poundage, I recommend a fixed blade broadhead for better penetration. Good luck archery tuning can be a dark rabbit hole.

    Not sure if this has been said but broadheads can make a big difference on the way the arrow flies and penetrates. I would suggest getting a couple different styles and testing them on targets to make sure they don’t do anything funky in the air especially once you start getting into further ranges.

    Don't burn the thatch. It's awesome for the soil like it is. You could scrape some little trenches to plant seeds and the thatch will definitely help whatever you plant. Bare soil kills the soil microbes and it blows away when it dried out. You don't want a little dust bowl.

    When you’re actually in the stand don’t do that (24:35) because if you raise the bow up like that you’re just making more movement than is necessary and it’ll make it easier for the deer to see you. You kinda wanna raise it near your chest and push out with the bow almost, while pulling your left arm back at the same time so it’s all synchronized and fluid.

    Not bad for your first time! Definitely not ready yet for hunting this year. Even if you are hitting the heart every time, it is completely different shooting at a live moving animal. I'd give it until next year and practice shooting your bow every chance you can. Nothing is worse than wounding a giant buck because of not enough practice. I've been practicing shooting my bow since I could barely pull it back and I am still learning about it. Don't rush, don't death grip your bow, relax your front hand, and most importantly DO NOT PUNCH THE TRIGGER! Punching the trigger will make your accuracy go way down. Love the videos!

    Alright bro,
    Sighting tip, when you shoot your bow and your off target from where you aimed, you're basically following the arrow with your sight. If you're arrow shoots low, lower your sight so you're technically holding your bow higher so you hit higher. Same thing left and right.

  • @prestonschmidt3137
    @prestonschmidt3137 3 роки тому

    Hey Flair just a little advice most people set there bows first pin at 20 because at 10 yards your arrow isn’t going to move enough to make a difference and that way you can shoot 10-25 yards with one pin. Another little tip is when your drawing and you hear that little rattle that is your field point loose and it could throw your shot off from having that weight out a little further from the arrow.

    • @prestonschmidt3137
      @prestonschmidt3137 3 роки тому

      Also any shot past 30 yards is Ricky because so many things come into play on a live deer it could turn or duck and do all kinds of crazy stuff and you could potentially not put a lethal shot on one. Not trying to be a know it all just trying to help out a fellow hunter lol. Love the vids.

    Y’all should have a contest for deer season and even duck season. Use the roulette wheel and see who goes to which spot and who ever gets the biggest dear, or whoever gets the most ducks wins. There should be some sort of punishment though. Nothing bad but something. Set up in some GoPro’s. Maybe even use the roulette wheel for who gets what gun too!

  • @wyattsmith9339
    @wyattsmith9339 3 роки тому +1

    Tips:
    Don’t try to hold you bow on the target. Like when you you were shooting the coyote just focus on the spot and your subconscious mind will make it hit the spot.
    Glasses aren’t super great when shooting.
    When your arrow has a rattling sound that means your field tip is loose.
    Allen wrenches are essential when working on your bow.
    Just squeeze your trigger and don’t punch it
