What Tom Cruise does is different. It's more about motor stunts, and I can say for a fact that the John Wick series has revived the gun and martial arts fighting more than any of the mission impossible movies have. The latter has given us a more movie experience in terms of spy espionage realism with all the efforts, but they are different beasts, and both deserve their own respect.

The stairs scene with John continuously falling down repeatedly is the PERFECT METAPHOR for someone like John wick trying to get out of the crime World, reaches up, then gets pulled back again, and again...

No drone was used in that scene. Fixed, computer controlled kamera on a fixed system above the rooms.
You know what, this movie made me realize that there's no "superhero fatigue", only "mediocrity fatigue". Coz John Wick is more or less a superhero franchise. It's just the unique elements that people love and are missing in the recent failed movies.

Jhon wick is an action hero movie, the kind that like 80-90 action hero with Sylvester Stallone or Arnold Schwarzenegger, etc. Thats why this and maverick work. Because people miss this kind of movie

Caine: "Those who cling to life die."
John has to be presumed to be a dead man if he can ever move on quietly with his life, otherwise he will never stop being hunted. They have a prime chance if they do a 5th movie (which has been suggested) to bring it down to the scale of the 1st film, and make it a bit more intimate, which would be a nice cap to the franchise. But if it ended here, it is one helluva swan song.
Like john as an older man who comes out of retirement one last time to help someone else
Nah this movie is clearly a farewell to the character....it sets new characters and the world as a whole and retires john wick.....the director and keanu both confirm there are no more john wick films and that keanu has his last appearance in the Ballerina movie that comes between JW 3 and JW 4

@@shivamsud - Nope. They both have suggested a 5th, though granted, it was leading up to the release of the 4th and as such was just likely a decoy. But circumstantially, a 5th movie is clearly not off the table. But that is as long as it happens within a few brief years; this movie alone took the hugest toll on Keanu, so if another happens it would have to be sooner than later.

Such a perfect and unexpected ending for the character. Since the first movie, he has been fighting as an escape from dealing with the emotion of losing his wife so it's not until Chapter 4 where he finally frees himself from the High Table and instead of living and retiring, he decides to finally let go so he can be at peace with his wife again. Heartbreaking, but beautiful.

This is John Wick's final destination. If the sequel is remade, this movie will be ruined like the last chapter of the Matrix movie,
And if it doesn't, it will always be memorable like Harry Potter

Don’t really think John wick 4 did anything that the raid franchise hasn’t done and the raid franchise has a much smaller budget. But yeh those 2 franchises are at the top of the game when it comes to action

@@JohnnyTravolta Well bond films and die hard films are better than John wick films. All John wick does is deliver in action, that's it. Die hard, MI and bond films have action sure, but there's drama and a plot unlike in jw films. Just having good action set pieces does not make a good film.

It's actually crazy to see how many ppl didn't watch the post credits scene. Even in the theatres I watched it out of pure habit of reflecting on a movie during the credits scene and only leave after it. The entire theatre was empty and the cleaners were already asking me why I didn't leave yet. What a pleasant surprise I had, along with a handful who stayed.
That Cowboy Bebop reference at the end was fantastic

I have never been as physically exhausted in a movie theater as I was for John Wick Chapter 4!
During the entire 3rd act we go from one of the most intense car chase / car fighting scene, to one of the best shot action sequences I have ever seen during the abandoned building fight scene. I felt my fingers go into the same crab claw shape when I play video games on pure reflex when it started to look like so many LITERALLY over the top games I grew up on!
THEN we get the insane stair fight, which every single step John fell down I practically felt just watching. Then we finally get to the duel and thank god It was long enough in the end that we saw the look on the Marquis’s face when he realized he fucked up!🤣🤣🤣
As for the ending, I think he survived because the perfect retirement is where everyone thinks you’re dead.
7:11 reminded me of Hotline Miami
Donnie Yen was the stand out character in this movie for me. No surprise there considering he’s a better and flashier fighter than Keanu

@Pat Crevier Just take it as he developed higher senses or took something that helped developed higher senses. Look at Scott Adkins character for example, that mf had a type of drug in the inhaler that enhanced him completely and gave him durability and regeneration so

Mr. Nobody was never on John Wick's side. He wanted the bounty raised, and he killed anyone who was about to kill john Wick before the bounty had been raised enough. He didn't kill him at the end because of his dog.

Tracker is a really good character. Gotta love his gear especially his Devcore Backpack which is real. I'm so happy he and his dog survived. I hope he comes back.
I wouldn't mind a Tracker spinoff, actually! Maybe a "prequel" that explains why he needs so much money. (You can't buy your way out from under the table, and he doesn't seem especially poor if he's just living for himself and his dog. So there might be something more to it than just "I wanna be rich.")

@@saurabhraj2690 yes he was, if you cut his entire character out of the story nothing would have changed abut the bigger story. But I still like him, the actor is good, his scenes are well made. I don't mind him being in the movie.
I like to think to think about the ending from this perspective: John was unable to die because of his commitment and determination to finally be free from the table. When he was set free, he was finally at peace and embraced death since he had nothing else to fight for as a free man. All this time we kept wondering “how the hell can this guy just not die?” It’s because he didn’t want to die as the Baba Yaga, but as a man, a free man.
It was made clear in the first few line of the movie....the only way john can find peace is in death. Once he found peace he finally died

I watched this one in the theaters and boy did the crowd go WILD when John killed Pennywise😂
Besides the amazing action and a stacked cast (which every cast member did their part), I really REALLY dig the cinematography in this one. The lighting, shot choices, set design, ect. Huge props to the team behind those. An all around great action film. Not only did I enjoy the action, but I enjoyed the characters and character interactions as well.

There was a plan to make chapters 4 and 5 back to back, but they decided to end it with this one (covid helped them to decide this tbf). Studio wants to continue of course, but Reeves and the director don't really want to. Atm there are only plans for Ballerina, that Continental show and Donnie Yen wants a Caine movie and Halle Berry her movie. But no chapter 5 on the horizon (also Reeves is almost 60... let him rest).
I don't agree with letting someone rest just because they're barely 60... Unless the person themselves want to take a break, being 60 shouldn't stop you from being active and doing what you love. Also, Donnie Yen is 59... I don't see him "resting" anytime soon.
@@NoReply28 making 5 straight movies is not easy no matter how young or old an actor is. Keanu needs his rest, the franchise is already up there with the all time great action films

It has been established that John Wich is carproof, as long as he hits a car or panel first he can survive any fall.

As much as I love each of these movies, I agree. It's rare for a series to get to the 4th movie and all of them are good and this one is a nice conclusion to the story. I'd rather they end on a good note instead of dragging it out and making the action bigger (but as a consequence more absurd) like they have for the fast & furious series.
I think when Donnie Yen's character Caine says "I'll be waiting for you" to Akira ties back to the end credit scene. Caine knew she was going to come for him but it was just a matter of when. I don't think he dies just because of that one piece of dialog from Caine. Also when John, The King, and Winston were talking about what they wanted on their gravestones King say's "I had mine made years ago" which it says Long Live The King. Meaning King already has "died" and put his past self to rest, I wouldn't be surprised if they use this same logic for John it makes a lot of sense when you watch that specific part (which starts at 1:53:27 for anyone who wants to watch it back)
I also think that Caine is alive because if you pay attention through most of that scene he has a smile on his face but when the girl is approaching him his smile disappears as if he is sensing it and I really think with him being blind and therefore his hearing sense being really good he would be hearing the sound of that knife, smart move by the girl would've been using one that blade comes out manually and from the side

I'm surprised no one is speculating that John Wick 5 might be a prequel. Remember when Viggo from the first movie said that he gave Wick one last job. That movie might be that one job.
I saw this film in IMAX. It was glorious madness, and I loved every minute of it. Great reaction! 👍🏿
the nowhere to run part was so good
i was kinda scatching my head about that last stairway fight when I watched this movie in the theaters. seemed like such an odd choice to kick him down and start all over again. such a drag.
afterwards I started to think about it and I realized despite how ridiculous it was, that whole sequence served as a metaphor for John Wicks life. He is stuck serving the table and is tasked to kill. but meets the love of his life and when looking for a way out. to free himself from the table to marry his wife he had to do an impossible task. like john climbing all those stairs. and he did. He was "free' and he made it to the top where the church is (the church representing marage and death) but when john did make it to the top and was free... his wife died and he was kicked all the way back down to the bottom, serving the high table again.
and now throughout these for movies john has to overcome the impossible again. climb back up that staircase again and make it to the the top where the church is for his freedom this time not in marriage but in death. and despite all the odds, he does it. once I've made this realization I kinda patted myself on the back for it. because a few days later after the movie came out, the director Chad Stahelski tweeted saying the staircase scene was a metaphor for his life. and i swear to god i knew it was the whole time.

About him not getting fractures after falling down multiple stories , here's how I like to think about it -
John wick's suit treads the line between real and fiction . As long as he is wearing that BULLET PROOF suit, he's secure from major trauma.
That suit gives him protection from falling to the ground and hitting all those cars. It's a stretch but clearly the idea of suit in itself , being what it is, makes it easy for me to take the leap.
John Wick is all the realism plus some bonus fiction here and there for the fun of it. I Love it.
I love that camera movment 👌🔥 colour grading🔥 cinematography 🔥 bgm 🔥.. Everything top
The Hotline Miami top-down sequence is one of the best action shots I've ever seen in my life.
Donnie Yen and Shamier Anderson were the standouts for me.

I'm a musician and this movie not only has awesome visuals, the musics were so good!!!
at 9:35 you asked about how many of the stuntmen were redressed. One of my buddies was a stuntman in this (the mercenary testing the dragon's breath shotgun round) and he said he was redressed 12 or 13 times, and that 8 of his deaths were included in the film. He said another few didn't make the cut. I assume a lot of the stunt folks were redressed double digit times as well.
Complaining about Scott Atkins in a fat suit throwing roundhouse kicks.....maybe look up Sammo Hung. Someone that big can totally do that.

That death scene and burial...I've a feeling that's the total cover for making the world seem he's gone and give him that final freedom. Loved it.

I think that John Wick sustained all of his injuries by sheer force of will to see this through to the end. Not invulnerable, as you all stated, but force of will kept him going. After it was done, he succumbed to all of his injuries because the deed was done. Kinda like how it was done in The Crow, only without the supernatural aspect.
Imagine keanu and tom cruise in a same action movie... 🔥
Post Cred Scene has a number of options as to WHY it was made with the 1st-being that Caine was friends with both Wick & Koji. At the End of the Duel between Wick-&-Caine, Wick tells Caine that "He owes him one", to which, Caine agrees.
IF They make Chapter 5 then I believe We will find out that Wick, whether he is alive or dead, tasked Caine with helping Koji's-daughter Akira, get out. Because remember Koji's Osaka-branch was deconsecrated where We saw that when this happened to the New York-branch Winston could be killed ALONG WITH Charon. Which means the same goes for Koji-&-His Daughter Akira, which Akira alluded to when she argues with Her Father about keeping Wick around & what happened to the New York-branch.
Akira should have a price on her head & We may see that the reason why she is still alive is because Winston arranged to have Nobody keep track of her & kill anyone who tries to kill her, for a fee plus 401k, of course. Once Akira finally makes her move to kill Caine, Nobody's contract may or may not end, because Winston will already know about the Fact that Caine owes/owed, Wick, a favor. And that Wick would want or wanted Caine to get Akira her freedom.
Again, Nobody may or may not exit the movie at this point because of whatever arrangements were made for his tracking-services & the rest would be on Caine to complete the Favor to Wick, as well as the Fact that Koji was actually Caine's "brother", as well.
I don't think the flowers in the post-cred scene were for Caine's daughter, but are actually for Akira, whom he knows has been lurking around His Daughter. Because Akira knows he's bound to show up there I don't believe that Caine is careless enough not to know that Akira would either figure out or know about his situation with his daughter & not try to ambush him when he goes to finally "see her". Chapter 5 will center around Caine helping Akira get out from under the Table, where I believe We will also see that Caine's-daughter isn't as harmless as she appeared to be in Chapter 4 either.
Chapter 5 should end with Caine & His Daughter helping Akira and it may or may not reveal whether Wick is actually alive or not, because Caine & His Daughter may end up bringing Akira to Wick! Where she will live out the rest of her life in safety-&-obscurity somewhere around Wick. And that should end the entire John Wick Franchise with him becoming a surrogate-father to Akira to make up for what happened to her father who died sheltering Him....

That top-down scene is one of the most incredible action scenes put to film.
The stunts and choreography alone should win major awards for this fking film. This was literally a masterpiece. As much as I want it to never end, I'm glad it did unlike some Marvel films after Avengers Endgame.
This movie gives me so much hope at the fact that Chad Stahelski is going to make the Ghost of Tsushima movie. It's going to be a sure shot superhit. And if this same team is with him in the making then it's going to be awesome.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

After watching this movie, I realized I only had two reactions the entire time.
"Oh my god" in different levels of intensity and "That's a gorgeous/great shot". What a ride lol

Neo noir genre as it's all time best.. and Hands down this movie deserves the best cinematography awards itself..
1:13 I love this way of deciding how to do the duel. 9:40 Keanu has a list cause he made them all shirts commemorating all their deaths. 10:21 the stunt team chose these stairs to film this on. The director showed them steps on the opposite side of the building and they wanted to see what else was around and when they saw these they were basically drooling over the many things they could do with these stairs. 16:42 I’m wondering if he’s really dead or if they planned to “kill” John Wick so he can live a free life. I like how Winston always looked at John like he was his son. Next you should check out the tv series on Peacock called “The Continental” which is set in the 70s. I would love to see them make a John Wick prequel that shows what John had to do to live with Helen.

Actually, Film theory has covered the fall scene. It's possible to survive and not break any bones because it takes about 4,000 newtons of force to break the typical human femur and the fall is below 4000 newton

When I saw this in theaters, there were so many times I was laughing just because of how insane the action scenes were!!

Masterpiece best action movie of all time 10/10
I'm not going to lie, I loved Bill Skarsgård playing the Marquis in this movie. Donnie Yen was absolutely amazing in this film as well. But I'm sad that the franchise is over.
The whole D.J. scene putting out the bounty and the song is an homage to "The Warriors" a 70's street gang movie directed by Walter Hill. It's literally scene for scene, as N.Y. biggest gang The Riffs put a bounty on the Warriors heads, for something they didn't do and every gang in New York tries to stop them from getting home to coney Island.

the scene with the Dragon Breath Shotgun birdview is easily the best part of the movie! The also used the same soundtrack from the first John Wick or slightly updated version.
second best is the stair fight with the epic song choice Genesis from Justice. and the Ar de Triumph with Hate or Glory music

John Wick gets better an better for my taste.
The stairs sequence was one of the scenes that broke my immersion in the action. Even in a movie that's over-the-top by design, it screamed at me, "Watch me roll all the way back down all of these stairs."
The other scene was the choice to have people, "just keep dancing no matter what!" during the club sequence. I found myself watching the people "blatantly not noticing" the fights happening. I didn't need a panic to start, but had people around the action started getting away from the immediate area, it wouldn't have taken me out of the moment.
The thing is though, pretty much none of the background people react to the fighting in any of the JW movies..Just watch any of the other club scenes, and there is little if any notice of all the violence happening around them..
@@superpotroast In my memory (or in my misremembering, perhaps), there were people who noticed and GTFO during the other club scenes. Also, they were more "run and gun," moving around enough to never be in the same group of people for very long.
Really, I could be wrong about the other movies, but JW4's club sequence took me out of the action. I was watching it. I was enjoying choreography. I was just no longer "in" it.
U cant have ur cake and eat it too....its a fair trade imo....give a bit of immersion and get a ton of fun action scenes

So many favorite scenes in this movie but I think my favorite was with all the cars and all of the guys coming after John so he didn't make. It or couldn't make it to the church. Everything was choreographed so well all the cars coming in all the fight scenes for it.

Ok, since you wanted a clue then let me give it you.
You remember just before the duel started both of them said a banger line which goes like "Those who cling to death LIVE and those you cling to life DIE".
Then we never saw even one of them actually dying.
So it symbolizes that Caine who wanted to live to meet his daughter someday somehow actually died and John who had no reason or motivation to live any longer a man who had already accepted his death somehow lived.
I know that people will say that it is an open ending and the viewers can believe what they want to believe, like some can believe that he actually died and now rests next to his wife since he accomplished what he wanted that is his freedom and die as a loving husband and not an cold blooded assasin however some can believe that he is the Baba Yaga who we have seen taking worse pounding than that so it is impossible that he died by this and is just acting dead to actually live a normal life a life that his wife wanted him to live.
It is quite poetic if you ask me.
So now you know, that is if you ever read this comment.

This was the PERFECT End For the John Wick character! There are plenty of potential for all the Cool Side Characters that were introduced though.
I felt the stunt guys waiting on Keanu Reeves to go to his marks was more noticeable on Part 3 than in this movie

The house fight was crazy it was like a video game level lol I loved it and Donnie Yens fighting style was great it wasn't daredevil level he did it while still looking blind it was so great. Love seeing him touch items or objects that he uses to his advantage and if John is really dead I can't think of a better freedom he doesn't really have anything else to fight for his wife and dog are dead, he gave his other dog away and most of his friends are dead anyway him hiding wouldn't make much sense
When I watched John Wick trailer back, I surprised how many it say something about death just as hint for the ending tho
the 5th movie should be a prequel following a young Winston and his rise to the Continental.
and ending with "What's your name, kid?".... and cut to baby Jardani as an orphan.
All you need to know now is why Caine gave the Table his eyes and that you have 4 years after Ballerina to start your jorney 😊! ... it was amazing in IMAX if the chance comes around again.
I feel like the scene at the grave is a fake out in the sense that, we are thinking it's right after the duel, but it could be very well into the future, like maybe after John Wick 5 or something like that
my theory for chapter 5 is he passed out from blood loss and they had the funeral so noone would look for him again

At the end scene when they are in the cemetery you see Dog look up suddenly like something or someone alerts him to his presence. I feel the gun shot wounds that he occured wouldnt of fatally wounded him. I believe the tomb stone wa as a meteor for the loving husband John is gone but the Baba Yaga lives on.

The dragon breath bullets are likely reference to Keanu's Constantine. Just like the chain punches and blind staff work were references to Donnie Yen's Ip Man and Rogue One. 😊
