- This is the seventh video in my new 'Back to Basics' series which aims to teach the basic design shapes in traditional flower arranging/floristry. In this video, I teach you about the Horizontal design often referred to as a long and low arrangement and guide you step-by-step from start to finish.
The 'Back to Basics' series is ideal for beginners looking to train as a florist or start a new hobby with arranging flowers. These tutorial videos are also suitable for intermediate arrangers looking to update their skills.
Feel free to ask questions in the comments and I hope you come back next week where we learn about a diagonal design.

You make a really good explanation of the composition , your experience really shows up, thanks for share:)
Dear Sharon, I have watched hundreds of hours (seems like) of flower and greenery arranging in the last three months and you just showed up in my UA-cam feed. After watching three of yours I declare you the BEST! I’m grateful that you use many of the flowers I can find at the grocery store. Buying them from a florist gets very expensive very fast! I’ve shared this video with my altar guild chair to see if we can somehow use them in instructing new members including me! Thank you for talking to the non-florist world.
Well thats such a lovely comment, thank you
Скажите пожалуйста сколько сантиметров эта композиция в длину?
Approx 3 foot, just less that 1 m
Love this video. It was very informative and you were very pleasant
Glad you enjoyed it!
Watched this again as we are doing a Mothers' Day arrangement in class next week. Enjoyed the hints just as much the second time round. Thank you so much for all the effort you put into your tutorials.
Thanks Robin, I'm glad I've helped inspire you to create a design
I am learning lots thanks but I wish it would be louder please
Thanks for your comments, this video was filmed quite a long time ago, hopefully the new videos have better sound.
❤❤❤
Lovely video, principles beautifully demonstrated in spite of the audio - your voice is totally off mic. Perhaps you might consider reposting it with music and voice over instructions because the natural effects are too low in level.
Noted! Thanks for your comments
Thank you so much for this tutorial! It is THE BEST one I have found. I want to learn to make simple arrangements and this step-by-step is awesome!
Thanks Robin. I'm glad you've enjoyed

You are so welcome
Thanks so much .I learned a lot. Accurate.perfect .
Thank you
Could you do a demonstration on how to do a single ended arrangement that would be fantastic.
I'll add it to my list! 😃
camera needs to be focused closer to the arrangement while it is being constructed. Audience needs to see more of the placement positions of the flowers and foliage...
over all explanation is extremely helpful.
Hi Sharon do you use this recipe for single ended spray.
Hi Debra. This would be a double ended spray as both side are equal in length. A single ended spray would be shorter.on one side. Hope that helps
Great, clear tutorial, thank you for sharing.
Thanks Sarah
