    I'm buying this siren. Has a decent sound to it and it'll sure beat having a whole console with a bunch of crap in my car. I prefer that my POV look as little like an emergency vehicle as possible and this siren should help. I have all interior lights to avoid them being visible until I need them visible. I don't particularly care for the added attention of having a giant light bar on the roof.

    NY, you can disable the siren tones and make them progressive all air horn tones if you are a volunteer in a state with restrictions. I ran the demo in the country facing a farm field, typically it's in air horn restricted mode.

    Tooooooo many options for me haha, when i get in the ambulance or engine I turn on T1 on our whelen module and just hang on to the air horn button/handle, i'm too busy thinking about equipment for the call to mess with the squeak box.

    if you are a first responder- and siren usage depends on the state, same with amount of lights, and the colors of lights- but it is illegal for civilians, and a permit is required for siren usage. Air horn laws also vary. That is a question for your states DOT and DMV

    Yes, Highly Legal, provided you are permitted by your local and state government to own a siren.
    Are you talking about owning a siren or are you talking about demonstrating it? because I'm talking about owning it.

    The air hone tones are odd. They can't use "siren" tones but you can use an alternating air horn tone. Isn't that a lot light the hi lo "siren" tone?

    Personally it worries me a bit that I have to look down at the controller to find out what tone I want to use. On a standard siren, all I have to do is turn the knob. It's a nice idea for saving space, but just not for POV's. At least not the best option.

    danieljosephc1 nothing illegal about it if you're using it as according to state laws/on a department and you're a first responder be it EMS or Fire. I'm a paid paramedic/firefighter and a volunteer firefighter and I respond code 3 in my pov, a lot of times i don't even use lights or sirens depending on conditions.

    • @cronmonjc
      @cronmonjc  7 років тому

      Google LCS869 pdf and open the manual on page 9. there are two charts that will help you define what wires you need depending on the Length of the wire run and how many lights you plan to power with the lighting outputs. For example if you plan to run 7 amps of lights and the siren you could budget 18 amps for the power wire if you need to run that 20' from the battery to the siren amp you need a 10awg wire. Proceed similarly with the other wires typical currents are listed for all of them in the manual the only unknown is how many lights you plan to power. Wire color does not matter to the siren, but stick with convention for power and ground, and use some other colors for the other wires so you or some one else can debug easily. Next you always want to fuse the power wire at the battery in case it shorts out to the car body so a good fuse and fuse holder are needed; The fuse will depend on how much you plan to power and the wire chosen; the fuse holder needs to be rated for the chosen fuse. You will also need a speaker the D44 is a nice choice and ensures SAE & title 13 compliance if you choose to use the siren tones, but any industry standard siren speaker will work. The D44 has some brackets designed for popular vehicles so ask for one that fits your car, that will save you time.
      Finally you will need all the standard install tools and will want zip ties, Butt splices, electrical tape, ring terminals....

    • @cronmonjc

      yes when it is programmed for the manual tone it will function like the typical sirens manual function

    • @cronmonjc

      Correct. It is tested to sae j 1849 and California title 13 sound output standards. Which are the industry standard for sirens.

    wrong! If it WERE legal anywhere (90% of the time it isnt) the chief has to get a special permit signed for you to have sirens, and has to have good reason for you to have it besides you wanting it. Its also a huge reliability issue. if you crash while driving like an idiot with your sirens the department will be responsible.

    • @lindsaygartner7050
      @lindsaygartner7050 10 років тому +1

      Paul Atherton They are volunteers, they have other jobs. Some people just aren't disciplined in the responsibility of sirens and lights. I pulled over a seventeen year old junior fire member running blue-lights a week ago on a side street (not even going to the fire house or to a call).

    • @Harvester35
      @Harvester35 10 років тому +8

      Lindsay Gartner that's because he was stupid. There's plenty of kids like that. I'm 17, a 5 year standing member, a NYS Certified First Responder, and I have blue lights, planning to get more, I am a responsible driver responding to the station. Not everyone is stupid like that. Sirens would help us a lot more responding to the station faster and safer
