I just subscribed, this one amazing new thing I learned, has been the dividing the short row, is to divide it in the beginning. I had never heard that before!! Genius.
I'm an experienced crocheter but a very novice knitter, and this is definitely the best/simplest heel method I've found! Instructions were very clear, and my sock is coming along great 😊
I was so excited to find your channel. I am a self taught beginner knitter. My knitting teacher from our local yarn shop told me I was " unteachable!" I found a childs beginner knitting kit in our book store & it took me forever but I finally knit my husband a cable afghan zi had wanted to make. My goal is to knit him a pair of socks & because of you I just might do so. The closest yarn shop is an hour and a half from me, so finding a knitting class is almost impossible now. I want to teach kids to knit at our library. I need to learn to knit socks. Thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
That teacher from your lys sounds very unpleasant... nobody is unteachable. There's just certain teachers that don't work well with certain students, as well as teachers that can't teach - being able to do a skill and being able to teach a skill are 2 seperate skills of their own. Keep on going! You will do this! Kind regards, a fellow self-taught knitter
You inspire me with your tenacity. Good work. By the way, prior to the Master Hand Knitting program, I was self taught. I think I still am, but with a lot of research under my belt.
Suzanne, i want to say thank you so much for your knitting tuttorials....i have been a huge fan of your channel for 3 years now...i learned a lot from your tutorials and live streams...i also want to say thank you for being such a warm and inviting soul...your voice is just so comforting that i fell asleep while watching two of your videos today...oh no, not in a bad way at all...i have a lot stress and medical issues that it's hard to fall asleep...your voice while teaching is so warm and inviting that it feels like an angel soothing my soul....thank you for being such an amazing teacher
Wow! You are an amazing teacher! I was shown how to knit by my cousin who was babysitting for my sister and myself. She gave me two plastic dpn’s and a small ball of yarn from a repurposed sweater and cast on a number of stitches so I could practice. That was 60 years ago and I taught myself how to knit from books and magazines. (No UA-cam back then!) My one and only way to turn a heel included picking up stitches on either side of a heel flap and knitting a gusset. I was so excited to learn your wrap and turn short rows heel!!! I knit the first one last night, ripped it out and knit it again today for practice! I did it!! No holes on either side! Thank you so very much for sharing your skills and expertise. There will be socks under our Christmas tree this year!
Hej, dear Suzanne. With your help I’ve made my best sock heel EVER! I’m so happy😊 and thankful. God bless you for your hard work to teach us. Wish you a nice day from Denmark 🇩🇰
Suzanne, thank you. I just completed my first short row heel without a hitch. You are a true treasure on the internet. I subscribed a few months back and I’ve learned so much!
So refreshing to see someone knitting continental like I do! Thanks for a great tutorial for someone who is gradually becoming more confident in knitting socks. The grandkids don't care if there's a hole at the corner, but I sure do! I'll subscribe and look forward to more great content.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I was having so much trouble picking up the wraps and double wraps until I watched your video! My heel looks lovely now!
Brilliant explanation! I spent hours trying to do this technique on my own and frogged countless times. I worked right along with this video and the heel looks amazing. Your explanations on the technique told me everything I was doing wrong. I can’t thank you enough!
This is the best demo and technique I've found for wrap and turn short rows. After many patterns, videos , and ripping out stitches I've found success !
I have watched at least 10 videos on sock heels. This is the clearest and best instruction. I used to use the wrap and turn heel, but then I tried to get fancy. Going back to the basics. Thank you.
I’m so glad I found this video! I was just about ready to pull my hair out after trying to follow several different tutorials. This video was so clear and helped me figure everything out. Thank you ❤️
Thank you for this video. I was knitting a Christmas stocking and didn't understand the wrap and turn directions. You made it clear and easily understandable. It took me a few times to get it correct, especially that first wrapped stitch on the instep. My finished stocking heel looks beautiful! Thanks again.
Thank you for this. You really have a gift for demystifying instructions on techniques. I swore off socks 15+ years ago because I hated the gaps in the W&T. Recently I gave it a go again with a pattern with an afterthought heel (with a pattern in two contrasting colors). It was worse. Making two new stitches at each end from the fabric was not enough to close the gap and you can’t snug it up at all since you’re p/u the sts from the row below. Loved the design otherwise but knew I’d never make another afterthought heel. Now I can still make that pretty pattern and make your no hole W&T heels. So grateful.
Susanne, you are an amazing teacher! You explain all the detail so completely, and calmly. Your voice and way of explaining are very confidence-building! I think if I were to attempt this, I would keep this video in my lap as I knit. Thank you!
WoW! Suzanne you just blew my mind! This video is exceptional! I did not realize you had 2 sets of circular needles or how to divide the stitches into thirds. The heel is absolutely divine! Thank You You made it look so easy.
Pure Genius! I have made dozens of socks in the past few years and always had trouble with the holes! I did the wrap and turn too. The biggest problem I had with the W&T was seeing the wraps on the small stitches (using 00 or 000 needles) but your taught me how to see them easier. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your expertise in this video!
You are so welcome, M Dolly! I also have a Facebook page (same name) filled with knitters at every level, and we love to help new knitters; you should join us. 😊
Thank you! This is amazing! I feel like a sculpter.😆 Great video. Thank you for the close up shots, so we can clearly see how you are working the stitches. Love.
Thank you so much! After having the heel more than halfway done by another method I tinker it all the way back and just finished it by using your instructions.
This is an amazing idea. I’m not sure I’ve seen end of short row stitches double wrapped and know I have never seen a wrap and turn using first/last stitches of the instep needle. I’m going to have a go at it. Thanks!
Been working on my first sock ……..finally your video making sense to me thank you so much 😊 very clear and concise after many rounds ripping and starting over to several other videos ..yours clicks 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🌼
Thanks so much! I got a new sock book for Christmas and the first pattern I tried uses this short row method. I was a little puzzled by it and am so happy to understand it after watching your video.
Thank you for showing this! My pattern was as clear as mud in a murky swamp, but you explained it so well. I'm still a pretty new knitter, but your explanation was easy to understand and so helpful! Thanks again!
Fantastic video! Incredibly helpful, thank you! I really appreciate that you showed the w&t over several rows- that's what I couldn't comprehend with the other videos I watched. My sock heel looks beautiful now. 😍

I can finish my birthday present for my friend now. :)
This was a wonderful video. It really made it easy for me to follow your instructions by visually seeing UP CLOSE what you were doing. Thank you so much!
This is amazing.. just doing my first pair of socks on double pointed needles (have knitted many things but never dared to try fitted socks before) and the written pattern that came with the kit gave two options.. neither of which made sense to me (probably because I am used to reading patterns in English eventhough I speak the other language the pattern is in) but this is obviously one of the two methods..but so much more clearly explained! Thank you so much!!
Neat way to prevent holes at the ends. I never saw this technique before but will try it out. I usually add an extra stitch on each end then decrease on the next round but sometimes i get holes. Maybe this’ll close the gap better. Thank you
Suzanne! I'd not seen this tutorial and was using another "lazy" kind of method for a few years now. Tried this one tonight, a bit tricky since I was using some splitty Kroy, but it worked out perfectly with the double wraps!!! Thank you for this amazing demo, and I am blown away at how you do this with the camera, and zoom in and out....you are amazing!!! Thank you so much!! Blessings ❤
Totally going to do this! Thank you for the nice tutorial. The German short row is not really my thing, ik think this will. Starting my fourth pair of socks 🧦 and doing this heel. So happy I found your video.
Thank you Suzanne. I finally understand short rows! I am excited to knit some self striping yarn. 😊 I love that Undulence sock!! I have to visit your Ravelry soon .
When knitting socks, what heel do you prefer to use? I knit a lot of socks and haven't been happy with the SR technique I've been using. So, I'd really appreciate knowing which heel you prefer. I've watched this video probably a dozen times and hope to use your technique on my next heels!! I LOVE your videos and your teaching style and voice. You are very clear and easy to understand. Thank you so much for charging with us!!
For me, I use heel flaps, heel turn and gussets. I have very high arches and they fit me the best. But for some designs, short row heels fit the pattern better, as in this design.
Oh! I've found this so difficult! Full of holes! I will go back to my usual method. That is not to say your instructions were not good. They were very good for those who hold the yarn in the left hand. I hold mine with my right forefinger and flick the yarn around the needle, I don't throw the yarn. My husband used to be fascinated as he said my 'flick' was so fast he couldn't see it! I'm left handed but ever thankful my mother, who was right handed, taught me to knit. She hated knitting! Anyway, when you were picking up the 'wrap' I found it impossible to see how I could do it! I tried allsorts but no luck! Thank you anyway😊
After my 5th attempt I nailed it! My issue was when I was working on the round again I graped correctly the corners but i didn't do it tight. Thanks for the clear tutorial and definitely worth it not to have socks with holes!
Another fantastic video, Suzanne! I hope you make your 100,000 subscribers. You deserve it! Question: Where is the best point in the knitting to do a contrast heel?
Great option to the boomerang version that's been driving me crazy! I'm much more less "fiddly" doing wrap and turn than that weird maneuver at the start of each row on the boomerang version of short row heel.
That's wonderful, John! I'm sure your hats are awesome, and I applaud you for wanting to step up your game. I hope you subscribe to my channel, I have more sock videos and even patterns on Ravelry. 😊 KnittingSuzanne on Ravelry - www.ravelry.com/people/KnittingSuzanne
I would like to see you demonstrate how you rejoin main color yarn, when you have worked a contrast color heel. I have knit a contrast color short row heel, but am am not sure where and how to resume knitting in the round. I have a huge hole on the last side and don’t know how deal with the last wrap on the instep needle plus dealing with the contrast and main color yarns at the junction. I hope this makes sense about what I am asking. I haven’t seen very many videos showing how to put in contrast heels on short row heels.
Look at the direction that the yarn would have traveled if you had continued working with it. That is the direction for weaving it in. For example, on that heel, the last use of the heel yarn is when you complete the last short row turn conceal. So the yarn needs to go in the direction that it would have, if it weren't broken, for weaving in. I hope this makes sense. Happy knitting Elaine.
Thank you for this video! I’m having a lot of trouble with the “lengthening short rows” on the knit side, picking up the double wraps and bringing the yarn through them. Is there a way I can lift them up onto the needle like I do on the purl side to make it easier to knit all three together? I can’t quite visualize which way they need to go onto the needle. Thanks!
Yes, you can lift them up, you will be on the purl side. You have to look at the knit side to see them, so bend your head forward and tilt you knitting towards you to see them, then put your right needle under them and lift up onto the left needle. then purl them together with the stitch on the left needle. Let me know if this helps. 🧶
I just subscribed, this one amazing new thing I learned, has been the dividing the short row, is to divide it in the beginning. I had never heard that before!! Genius.
Wonderful! I love those aha moments. Happy Holidays.
can you give me advice on how to get it to end up on the knit side?
I'm an experienced crocheter but a very novice knitter, and this is definitely the best/simplest heel method I've found! Instructions were very clear, and my sock is coming along great 😊

Thank you Suzanne, you're a Super Teacher as always! Thank you! 💛 💚 💙 💜

Wonderful!🧶
Fantastic video! Incredibly helpful, thank you! I really appreciate that you showed the w&t over several rows- that's what I couldn't comprehend with the other videos I watched. My sock heel looks beautiful now. 😍

I love your instructional videos! Absolutely clear and easily understood for beginners, too. Thanks so much, Suzanne.
Thank you Della Juanita Underwood! Happy knitting.

Wonderful!
This is a very good tutorial. All my socks will be better now! Thanks!
Great!
Excellent video and instructions. My first heel turn went without a glitch. Thank you so much.
Yay, great to hear, Roberta! ❤️
I searched and searched for a clear tutorial to clarify the written directions in Schurch - More Sensational Sock book. This is exactly what I needed to "fix" the written directions that I couldn't make work.
Great. 🧶
So between learning a sort of slingshot caston for toe up socks and now pretty much mastering this technique on my second try, I have a whole new way of making socks. It takes longer than my old standby, which I could almost work in my sleep, but I like these short rows better than German ones and the result looks professional. THANKS!
That's wonderful, Patricia! In no time you'll be just as proficient in short rows as you were in German. ❤️
Great tutorial, it's easy to follow and provides great results! Thank you! I'm knitting a pair of socks with a moire dye job and didn't want to interrupt the flow of color with a turned heel, knitting a short-row heel from the other side of the ball did the trick! I can finish my birthday present for my friend now. :)
Wonderful!
This was a wonderful video. It really made it easy for me to follow your instructions by visually seeing UP CLOSE what you were doing. Thank you so much!
You are very welcome Judy Landeck! Happy knitting.
Best tutorial on this that I’ve found!
Thanks so much for your kind feedback, Crystal! 😊
Thank you so much for this video and the gorgeous pattern! Your videos are extremely easy to follow and make knitting socks/etc seem doable!

Fantastic!
Brilliant technique and great explanation...thank you very much!

I typically avoid short rows due to gaps. This video changed my mind!

Another fantastic video, Suzanne! I hope you make your 100,000 subscribers. You deserve it! Question: Where is the best point in the knitting to do a contrast heel?
I start my contrast heel at the point where you would start the heel.
Suzanne, thank you for your teaching me the ssp and ssk stitches. I liked your video very much.

You are very welcome Surinder Kaur! Happy knitting.
Great option to the boomerang version that's been driving me crazy! I'm much more less "fiddly" doing wrap and turn than that weird maneuver at the start of each row on the boomerang version of short row heel.
I think it's a good option too, G-Girl! 😉
와 정말 좋은방법이에요! 양말만드는데 큰 참고가 될 것 같아요!!!!고마워요; )

Thank you Martha Berry! Happy knitting.
The might be the first tutorial that I might try. I'm a newbie and a little daunted by making socks. Getting tired of making hats 😂
Thank you! That makes so much sense!
Thank you Debbie Adams! Happy knitting.
I'm fan of your knitting maam
Thank you bhat. parveena! Happy knitting.
I like the look of this wrap and turn method better than the German short row one with the holes.
