Excellent FLICK CONNECTION Darren. Some top quality recommendations; particular love GATTACA, THE BLUES BROTHERS, THE DEER HUNTER and SERPICO. Many thanks for sharing with us. Much appreciated 👍👍👍
This is the best UA-cam channel in this genre, a breathless run-down of what's new, what's good, and why its worth watching. He respects our time. He knows we're here to learn about available movies in a hurry, and he doesn't distract us by trying to be funny, and he obviously rehearses each episode enough so that there are no umms and ahhs that might make us get fidgety and start lookin' for that Next butten. His effort is very appreciated, and I always come away from each episode quite informed.
Pulling the plug on Prime, Netflix, Disney. Tired of being ripped off for more money, forced ads, for service packed with foreign shows I don't watch and don't care to chase subtitles. "New" anymore means an old movie or TV shows being brought back. If I'm going to watch ads, there are plenty of free channels for that.

@@DavidMorales008 Where I live we do have reliable next day delivery. I stayed at a rental condo at another more remote location and it took 5 days for a 2 day delivery.
The original 1957 version of 3:10 to Yuma added May 1st! Directed by Delmer Daves and starring Glenn Ford and Van Heflin, this is a must see for all film fans.
Was pleasantly surprised. Started out not sure if I'd like it and ended up liking it. I liked the 3 different versions of her helping Manni. A quirky movie in an enjoyable way.
A stacked month for Prime. Hahaha, I remember back when "Run Lola Run" was considered a bit of an avant garde movie. Lots of great classics, "Rope" is one of the few I haven't seen!
I gave up on prime video after they put ads into their videos. Pay to watch streaming with commercials? No thanks. That sort of double dipping greed is why I cancelled cable.
@@larryjoeandersonprobably the same reason I am just to see if Amazon has put anything new on , by looks of it nope just same 💩 but you pay more or cope with ads , yes it’s 3 quid a month more for those who chose to pay it a 68% increase is just greed , there also getting revenue from advertising it’s double dipping , I will not support a company like that.
Yes, I was watching a Prime movie the night before. It was free. I got through half of it, and decided to got to bed. I started to watch the rest of it last night and couldn't because now it's a rental.
Where is the customer support for your merchant shop? Ordered a shirt and it came with a hole in it and there is no way to reach anyone to get it fixed. Please help
Nice job. You're not wrong about the Prime user interface..... And uhh, Netflix, looking at you, fellas.... You're no better..... Literally the only way to find this stuff is the search button.... So if you didn't KNOW IN ADVANCE that it was there, you'd never find it..... Which, I just... I don't know. Why would you add movies, and then hide them??? My head... I need a handful of Excedrins..... Why would you do that???? Seriously, it's like "hey, we added these new movies!" Supervisor: Bury them. Make sure nobody knows they are there..... I just... I can't even....
One simple reason, they clearly no longer want to provide new content, just really old and tired films that most people have seen a half dozen times or more. Amazon Prime's original main competitor: Netflix. Amazon Prime's new main competitor(s): AMC and TMC. Nothing wrong with nostalgic film networks; but cable already gave us three nostalgia premium channels: AMC, TMC, and FLIX (the only one not to go streaming); plus a litany of re-hash second run networks from STARZ Encore. Same old hook, bait, and switch approach that cable has used for the last 40 years. Hook viewers into subscribing, then stop delivering once they are dangling from that rod. If their best offerings are 20, 30, 40 or more years old, best way to prevent subscribers from knowing how duped they may be is to hide it. The new "interface" is no longer an interface, it is a scavenger hunt.
I don’t like how the rent/buy movies pop up as recommendations. Other people may accidentally charge to my account. Can you turn those off unless searching for a particular movie that you want to rent/buy?
So Amazon Prime has decided it rather be a classic movie channel like AMC or TMC than a premier entertainment service. 11 minutes in, and nothing but old films that most people have seen. But the first new offering is an Anne Hatheway film; seriously? An actress you either are a big fan of, or more likely an actress you flat out cannot stomach. That's the best they can put forth? Then half of the new films aren't even all that new. As for the new interface of Prime, have to agree, it really sucks now. Why they felt the need to change an easy to navigate interface into one that is all but impossible to navigate is anyone's guess. But I suspect they did so to hide the fact that they would rather compete against AMC than the new content streaming services. Easier and cheaper if they no longer have to make their own content anymore, they just don't want the subscribers to know it.
Older films are usually far better than the modern trash that Hollywood puts out these days. I'm super happy to see all of these older films coming to Prime!
It's months like this that make me rewatching Peaky Blinders & Vikings over and over, only show I'm excited about is the Blue Angels in IMAX. Will see that a few times for sure
Cold Mountain surprised the heck out of me! The casting every one of them wow. The whole Odyssey vibe to it. What an epic. Really well made and captivating
Thanks sooo... much for all the new Prime release info. Glad to hear you mention how horrible frustrating user interface. Impossible to find any info on recently added content. One would think they'd have a category "Recently Added".
You mentioned the new shirts in this video, I noticed you were wearing one in a video a week or so ago and thought it was new even though you didn't mention it. It was the "They Live" shirt. Now I'm an old man and saw that movie in the theaters, and you are a movie buff but I can't imagine anyone else in the world is going to recognize the bubble gum line or Rowdy Roddy... I hope I'm wrong and would be curios about how well it sells
Likely their sharp intake of content, is a way, in their befuddled minds, to gain back those of us who'll no longer watch it due to ads, on a site that originally said no ads, for a stipulated price. The proverbial straw, because, their site has a plethora of issues, without that, not so nifty change. I, for one will not be going back, unless its changed back.
Gilda should have been mentioned in the Hitchcock section as part of the classic movies. If you want to know why Rita Hayworth was such a huge star back then, her entrance in the movie will tell you. Dang that head shake!!!
Thanks Darren...you mentioned/listed some older classics & cult films that I'd like to check out again, but most of the newer ones I've seen once and that was enough...however, I'm still not happy about Prime suddenly adding ad breaks to all their content recently; that is unless you're willing to cough up an additional $2.99 a month!
@@EmoryEdmunds - I wish...maybe it varies with different movies & shows, but I've been averaging 3 or 4 during the movies I've watched. However, I will say they are short, but still bothersome.
Battlestar Galactica is out on Amazon Prime. All four seasons. (Not the mini-series that started it.) It was up on the banner page on prime today, May 9th 2024.
Hey Darren, here's 6 Australian films that I've never seen you talk about & I think that they might interest you. The first 5 are based on actual events. Enjoy. Chopper (2000) Andrew Dominik. Hounds of Love (2016) Ben Young. Snowtown (2011) Justin Kurzel. True History of the Kelly Gang (2019) Justin Kurzel. Nitram (2021) Justin Kurzel. Ghosts.....of the Civil Dead (1988) John Hillcoat.
Bottle Rocket is one of my favorite Wes Anderson movies. If you haven’t seen it give it a try, even if you don’t like Wes Anderson movies. It’s the most different among his films. He started really developing his signature style with Rushmore (my favorite movie).
Thank you for helping me navigate the Amazon interface. It is almost counterintuitive. I liken it to a Vegas hotel in its design made to make you look at everything.
@@DarrenVanDam. The movie is laying the groundwork for all the stuff that comes later. Now a days, many viewers don’t have much patience for character development in films. By the time the birds launch their deadly attacks, we know all the principal characters quite well.
Amazon has some really good shows..... But jfc they need to have a better interface, that ish is terrible, stiff, lifeless,......... Omg you mentioned it... They need to take a page from Netflix
If you like the Hitchcock films, I highly recommend "High Anxiety" by Mel Brooks. Brooks gave Hitchcock an early screening and Hitchcock loved it, and made a couple of suggestions, one of which Brooks used.
I am not sure if it's free on US prime but it is in the UK, there is a wonderful little low budget UK sci-fi time travel film called "Breaking Infinity" but well worth a watch
I watched Titane and Mandy as a double feature on my recent day off from your recommendations. Both were pretty nuts but great. I really wanted to watch something with a not typical vibe and they both delivered 😊
Prime has not added this much advertisements into its video service in years - but thats all been corrected now and its Advertisements Advertisements Advertisements which is reported to have increased profits for the business unit, which of course supercedes the user experience. ;-)
The last (post credit) scene of Airplane! changed movies forever (yeah yeah it had been done a couple of times before). The problem with watching it on streaming service is that you need to fight with the auto advance (as opposed to Otto, the copilot) to read the credits with "Author of Tale of Two Cities" and "Generally in charge of a lot of things".scene
Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I find the first slower half of "The Birds" just as good as the more remembered second half. I enjoyed getting to know the characters, the dialogue and the mental gymnastics they go through, putting each other in cages of their own.
Oh no, it's a great mystery but I think people will be surprised to see it's nearly an hour into the movie before the birds attack. Psycho does this too but not for as long as The Birds.
It does. I like Psycho's slower first half as well - I've come to appreciate both movies on a better level and in some ways miss how a good thriller can be even when it takes some time. Both films excel at building great characters.
Rear Window.. Definitely Hitchcock's Best.. I Was 'Blown-Away' learning that Not Only is 'That Hollywood Set!?!'.. Every Single item seen was Handmade by an Artisan.. After learning that & ReWatching.. (& ReWatching).. I started to See Li'l aspects of His filmmaking & Set Design 'I'd Never Seen Before'.. A Good Example is: Whenever One of the characters enters & walks 'A Hallway' across the courtyard, watching the actors Help Create the illusion of 'a 6'- Hallway' look-like it's '20' long!?!'.. Just Realizing 'Every Brick'.. Every 'Crack in a Sidewalk'.. IT'S 'ALL' A (HANDMADE) HOLLYWOOD 'ILLUSION!! '
I think so too. I see so many movies these days (ahem marvel) over using the whole multiverse nonsense because they can't think up anything without it. I always feel like they're somehow stealing the idea from this movie when I see them
Funny, everyone complaining about commercials on Prime on UA-cam. UA-cam has the most commercial interruptions of any platform. Unless you want to go Premium of course! Lol😂. Plus Prime is free with Amazon subscription so really who cares? By the way, with the demise of cable, ad free premiums will be everywhere soon.
Darren, we absolutely love your recommendations! Could you possibly create a video featuring your top 50 must-watch movies, regardless of streaming services? We're excited to see what you suggest!
I saw Run Lola Run in theaters when it first came out. It came out 1 year before Go (1999), and is a much better version of a similar story line. I loved it!
"... and their user interface is - so terrible" That is Truth!!! Wow! Haven't watched Run Lola Run since the local independent video rental place shut down... so early 2000's. Movies Worth Seeing! Where I discovered films from directors like John Waters and Luis Buñuel. And films like The Evil Dead and Schizopolis. Where I rented Andy Warhol's Blood For Dracula - "Dracula is searching for virgins' blood, and...he died of thirst!!!" All these loose girls keep lying to him and telling him they are virgins - then we he bites them and drinks their blood it makes him violently ill - vomiting blood! Leading to one of my favorite lines of all time as he raises his head from the toilet : "The blood of these whores is killing me.." Cool. Oh look Here's the clip! ua-cam.com/video/xSXhAbK3Xnk/v-deo.html
_Rope_ feels like (essentially is) a play - it's all dialog in one room, no real action - but I think it's totally gripping. If that sounds good, give it a try. I absolutely love the movie. Also, if you want the feel of a gritty, depressing, NYC-in-decay type 70's movie, _Serpico_ is a must.
So much awesomeness and fun fact my grandfather directed the Payne Field air shows when I was a kid and the Blue Angels of course an amazing highlight show and memories
A lot of bangers. I saw Run Lola Run in theaters, back in 99 and was blown away. I've probably watched it a good 30x and if you count how many runs Lola does, that's almost like watching it 100+ times! 😅
I am a prime subscriber, and I had not seen anything worth the 135. A year. Now, having commercials. Fallout was the only thing that made it worthwhile. Now you show all these movies. I say they can afford to try and beat Netflix!!!!!!!
A wise person once taught me to pay attention to those who use the word “actually” too often. They explained that the overuse of “actually” shows the speaker is a liar and has subconsciously gotten into the habit of using this word to try to convince the listener that “this time” they are finally telling the truth. My mentor said I should be aware of the use of this word, and if it shows up three times or more in a conversation I should keep in mind that the speaker is probably a liar. "Actually" count for this video is 18.

I think it's 50 minutes in before the birds attack. It's easy to forget the first hour is a great and relatively birdless mystery movie.
@@DarrenVanDam. The movie is laying the groundwork for all the stuff that comes later. Now a days, many viewers don’t have much patience for character development in films. By the time the birds launch their deadly attacks, we know all the principal characters quite well.
Thanks so much for sharing your info.
Mia Goth is so good at being bonkers, you just have to wonder.... is she acting?
She should of won an Oscar for just holding that creepy AF smile for over 3 mins during the end credits
How many normal actors do you know? ;)
Amazon has some really good shows..... But jfc they need to have a better interface, that ish is terrible, stiff, lifeless,......... Omg you mentioned it... They need to take a page from Netflix
If any of you havent seen Amelie(it was in the ad for his website). I highly recommend. I also recommend Jeunets other movies.
Idea of You is already available on Amazon (today, 5/2).
If you like the Hitchcock films, I highly recommend "High Anxiety" by Mel Brooks. Brooks gave Hitchcock an early screening and Hitchcock loved it, and made a couple of suggestions, one of which Brooks used.
American Fiction is based on a book (which I read) and was pretty good
Run Lola Run is so great! Loved it for years and years. Great Soundtrack.
I am not sure if it's free on US prime but it is in the UK, there is a wonderful little low budget UK sci-fi time travel film called "Breaking Infinity" but well worth a watch
Rope is a treat.
Best Glen Close for me is Les Liaisons Dangereuses.
Great vid as always Darren !
I watched Titane and Mandy as a double feature on my recent day off from your recommendations. Both were pretty nuts but great. I really wanted to watch something with a not typical vibe and they both delivered 😊
That's a crazy intense double feature!
Run Lola Run is a great little movie. As is GATTACA
Love your channel. I come here often to find things to watch, thks man!!!
Prime has not added this much advertisements into its video service in years - but thats all been corrected now and its Advertisements Advertisements Advertisements which is reported to have increased profits for the business unit, which of course supercedes the user experience. ;-)
American Fiction was one of my favs of last year...and was shocked how much I liked The Idea of You. Even the music was pretty good!
"What's a gaffer?" I lol'd when I saw that in the credits for Airplane
@@covertcee the head of the electrical team
@@DonLekei that's why the credits were funny, no one generally knows what a 'gaffer' is so having that in the credits was amusing :)
I stopped going to Prime Video for movies because they loaded it with so many badly made movies, I just couldn't stand browsing through them anymore.
That show the goat looks really good Daniel Tosh is hilarious 😂😂
A Good Example is: Whenever One of the characters enters & walks 'A Hallway' across the courtyard, watching the actors Help Create the illusion of
'a 6'- Hallway' look-like it's
'20' long!?!'..
Just Realizing 'Every Brick'.. Every 'Crack in a Sidewalk'..
IT'S 'ALL' A (HANDMADE) HOLLYWOOD 'ILLUSION!! '
I saw Repo Men kind of on accident and it was pretty wild. I enjoyed it a great deal!
The One is so under rated..
Gattica is one of the most visuaaly stunning movies ive seen. to the point that the licence plate on my chrysler crossfire is Gattica!
You never fail to provide me with great stuff to watch!
Bottle Rocket , rear window and panic room a few of my favs
I watched the idea of you. I liked it 👍
I thought the same thing about Matthew Broderick in Glory, but then I looked at one of my history books and he looks amazingly like Robert Gould Shaw!
Buckaroo Bonzai is a great film.
I saw Run Lola Run in theaters when it first came out. It came out 1 year before Go (1999), and is a much better version of a similar story line. I loved it!
Excited for Outer Range S2!
I had high hopes for that show, great cast, good start but then just go way too weird for me and I stopped watching it.
OMG outer range is back I've been waiting for this show
"... and their user interface is - so terrible" That is Truth!!!
So many classics this month!!!
Run Lola Run is a must see
Some great movies wow
_Rope_ feels like (essentially is) a play - it's all dialog in one room, no real action - but I think it's totally gripping. If that sounds good, give it a try. I absolutely love the movie. Also, if you want the feel of a gritty, depressing, NYC-in-decay type 70's movie, _Serpico_ is a must.
So much awesomeness and fun fact my grandfather directed the Payne Field air shows when I was a kid and the Blue Angels of course an amazing highlight show and memories
I’ve always liked Panic Room and also excited about all the Hitchcock coming
A lot of bangers. I saw Run Lola Run in theaters, back in 99 and was blown away. I've probably watched it a good 30x and if you count how many runs Lola does, that's almost like watching it 100+ times! 😅
They added Ads.
Serpico is based in real life and still as relevant as ever. Definitely needs more appreciation.
Looking forward to once again watching The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai.
Death Race remake with Jason Stathan? You bet! Thanks again, Darren!
Run Lola Run...Freakin' aweshum!
Outer Range was such a great surprise!
“I hate the back of forest whitaker’s neck-AH!”
The only thing I'm watching and I like in the prime right now is series Fallout
I've watched "The Big Chill" over 50 times and the soundtrack is awesome 👌
Andrew Wilson is also in Bottle Rocket
I am a prime subscriber, and I had not seen anything worth the 135. A year. Now, having commercials.
Fallout was the only thing that made it worthwhile. Now you show all these movies. I say they can afford to try and beat Netflix!!!!!!!
I love Run Lola Run.❤❤❤❤❤
Hmm Brigsby has me and Rope should be cool😊❤
The way Prime has inserted the ads is ridiculous and intrusive. I won’t be watching and won’t be renewing my subscription. Bye Jeff
What about people who put the word "super" in front of everything?
Yeah, why does Prime have such a terrible UI? I used to love the service before the ads and weird suggestions
I don't want to sound like a broken record but you're frickin awesome. Really appreciate yoy.🤙
