80-something, sitting in my room in the dark playing Castlevania with Practice What You Preach as the soundtrack - over and over again. One of those tapes that you can’t read the print on because it’s just gone.
Chuck will always be a Legend in my book! I've listened to Testament since I was a kid. Much respect to the chief! Got lucky enough to meet him and the band in Charlotte, N.C as VIP in 2016!🤘🍺🤝🇺🇸
I had the honor of standing next to Chuck Billy at a benefit concert watching a reformed Laz Rocket perform at the Dog Pound in the East Bay. I knew who he was, He knew I knew, we both just watched a great show...it was cool.
I remember buying the first album on cassette from the local grocery store. In the plastic boxes. Savatage, Malice, Metal Church, Grim Reaper... and so on
I met Chuck at one of Chuck's 1st shows with Testament. He's a tall, big dude and I'm not. I thought he might be like everyone else and think he was too cool, but that wasn't the case. He was stoked that we were there to watch the show. Really nice guy. That night he told me he had strep throat. I said, "Dude!" with genuine concern. He blew it off and said, "Eh, I'll just make it heavier." How do you not like this guy? I don't see him or Tiffany anymore these days, but I'm sure if I saw him, he's the same guy; just a really polite and thoughtful person . . . With a fucking crazy voice! Not too bad at soccer either.
I’ve been a fan of Testament since 1989 (Practice What You Preach). Chuck has always been unique. One of the few vocalist’s that can cover all range of emotions. His singing voice, growls and screams are all fantastic. Great interview! I always look forward to your videos.
I heard of Testament when The New Order came out and I've been a fan ever since! Chuck is a great lead vocalist and his voice has held up quite well and glad he takes his job seriously and doesn't destroy his voice. I think it's kinda funny about how he went from the half mic stand and actually can sound better, but now he can't air guitar without it. They have definitely gone through some sound changes with the various lineups, but I've never been disappointed with an album or live performance! The one lineup changed that shocked me the most was James Murphy for Alex, but already a fan of Death and Obituary made that quite ok for me.
They will not release it fast enough for me, the instant any new album from Testament arrives on the store shelves I am right there the same day to buy it!
Wonderful interview! My favorite vocalist of the genre!🤘 Thanks for the music and the consideration you give to the band, its legacy and the fans in how you care for your voice.🖤👍😎
Wow, what a great interview, good questions, and chuck for being so honest and open i trully enjoyed this, saw testament a bunch back in their early days, troubador, country club, etc! i remember ordering their 1st cd in the long box form from a record store in LA the guy working there who handed it to me was a guy who would soon drum to Fear Fatory.
Man I saw Testament several years ago and they RULE!!! Seeing Chuck do his thing was so awesome! He had a half of a mix stand and was playing air guitar on it!!! Then he started singing and it all went to hell! ! That is a DO NOT miss performance y'all!
I always said Chuck is one of the few that can actually sing harmonies, should sing more often. Wow, he went to college and took voice lessons. That's good. Guess who else took voice lessons, David Lee Roth. Testament commented that the first time they heard Chuck sing he sounded like Stephen Percy of Ratt and wore a boa.
Love the song practice what you preach when it came out I really could relate my father made me go to church but he lived like the devil in the world always on me for my long hair so the song was real
Honestly I think he sings much higher on Formation Of Damnation than any previous records. I actually thought it was too high, even though I like that and all their records.
I offered and he said he quit, recovered from cancer. Then lightly socked him in the arm!And I still kept my life! I felt like an ass. but smoked it ,standing next to him. Ive definately learned some compassion since. Chuck is#1 since my 1st tape in 1988.
Great singer. I gifted him an Eagle feather in Detroit like 5 years ago, and he acted like I interrupted his dinner and stepped on his clean shoe. He wasn't busy doing anything, not on his phone, was just standing there. It's a very respectful gesture. I'm First Nation, so is he... bummed me out. Oh well, hey?
Let's just say that was a Turkey feather because if it was an Eagle feather, by Federal Law, you could get fined $200,000 and go to prison. I'm not sure what the process of obtaining legal Eagle Feathers is, but Eagles are on the Endangered or protected list. Chuck was possibly thinking, "I'm about to get busted and go to jail." Even If I walk, it will cost me a fortune in legal fees. Doubt what I am saying? Look it up. Even if you found an Eagle in road kill your taking a huge chance getting those feathers.
@@Williameagleblanket The way the Federal Government works is a Native American is required to be from one of the "recognized" Tribal Nations and a Native American is required to be an enrolled member. And there is a requirement of blood quantum like at least 25%. I will agree that Chuck is Native American, he said his dad is a Native Pomo from California while his mother is from Mexico. Is the Pomo Nation a federally recognized tribe? Is Chuck an enrolled member? I don't know. Chuck said he grew up in San Francisco in an urban area. About Eagle feathers, while Native people can have Eagle feathers for religious purposes, regalia, and Pow Wows, it is still regulated. You might have to prove the history of the feather or feathers, where did you get, when did you get it.
@@dante666jt Yes. Wouldn't listen to the remnants of the band that used to be metallica to save my ass. I can remember seeing the live reload rehearsal and being absolutely disgusted by how horrible his ability to sing had become. They're all lars's bitches now
Was a cool band. Unfortunately Alex Skolnick decided to politically go against a healthy society. He should have stayed a guitar player. Not a politician. I won't buy anything from Testament anymore. 😕 It's like paying for your own bullet if you support such behaviour.
I don’t agree with his political stances but I don’t care anyway, I will love Testament and I will even love Skolnick as he’s one of the greatest guitarists ever. As the famous saying goes “separate the art from the artist”
"He doesn't like my guy so I don't like him." I always found this childish. I've never done this, though it's fortunate that I don't like Kid Rock's or Ted Nugent's music. 😂

You just combined my favorite metal band of all time, if not my favorite band of all time, with my favorite video game series of all time!
@ that’s very cool, it was such a good time to be alive (still is, but, pre-internet is gold).

One of the most badass and biggest (figuratively and literally) singers of all time.

Partied with Chuck. Super cool guy. Always loved his work!

Clean, low, high, growls, Death Metal... he may be the most versatile Metal vocalist I've ever heard.
His growls are among the best. The real growl, not this deathcore voice acting growls but bear growls.
Much love to Chuck Billy 🤘😎
Good stuff Chuck. Thanks.
Saw Testament on Practice What You Preach , and saw the tour with Behemoth recently. Testament is a awesome band!!!
A great voice,great band, cool guy. 👍
Legend!
Didn't know Chuck had any training - nice to learn that. Man, he's got a beastly, deep and rich voice.
THIS IS EPIC AF, Chuck legendary Billy on here🔥🔥🔥
Some real good questions for a change, in these RnR interviews
Received a real High 5 from Chuck at the Cubby Bear, Chicago, 1989 with Raven!
Respect to Chuck!
He’s a great frontman with a powerful and versatile voice.
He’s also a big guy. He looks like a retired pro-wrestler.
Been a fan since The Legacy days! Bay Area for Life!!!
What if Souza never left Legacy the pre- Testament band? Would Chuck Billy be in Exodus? 🤔
Good interview

Listen to Chuck. Go to college. ❤
I remember buying the legacy album back then😊
Chucky Billy, I wish that you could do a song with Mastodon on their new album. Randy Blythe did and it was cool.
This one’s crazy but I used to be scared of Chuck Billy when I was younger (kind of still am honestly lol)

Nice to hear james hetfield was the one back in the day maybe still in 2024 without a doubt
Jens Bogren is producing their next album!!!!!! 😳 ..... 🤘🤘🤘
I can't wait to see what he with Floor Jansen who will appear as a guest vocalist on the next album.
🤘♥️🔥

Well he is aging gracefully
Chuck is too modest. He's better than James Hetfield.
