I never knew running could get so deep. I’m so glad i ran into this channel though. it has helped me lower my Spartan Race completion time this year! Now i need a video on how to run up a hill more efficiently.
I am over fifty so good form is so important to me to avoid injury to my aging chassis🤣😁🏃🏻♂️ Sadly speed reduces with age but the enjoyment never fades. Thanks folks!
I find myself lurching forward, hunched near few miles of longer runs.....face looking down. I think this is common, especially older runners. Having actual video of the faults in bad form would be helpful.
I definitely twist my body to compensate the fatigue as you have shown. You have explained so well in detail the what and how to fix. This is one of the best videos for beginner runner. I really try to improve my running technique in all aspects in order to run longer. Thanks for your help.
This is great! I quit track freshman year when I was pretty average and knew nothing about form... now im a junior and i haven't ran in over a year.. I just ran a 5k yesterday and a mile today with trash form and of course terrible times😂 well can only go up from here
Wow you are AMAZING - I have been running for 2-3 years and have read a lot of books and watched a lot of videos. You are the BEST! Will practice with your advice. Thanks
I've watched a ton of these videos on form and this is the first one I've seen explain how shoulder stiffness affects arm swing which leads to hip rotation which causes grape-vining. I had no idea I was doing so much wrong. Thanks for the quick fix!
This is absolutely amazing advice, thank you so much! Personally I have just started running, about 9 weeks in and my digestive system was in turmoil, bad aches and pain in the abdomen and hip . I am hypermobile and wondered about my form, came across your video and after one run of trying these techniques I had no pain!! Wooooo thank you again, I can now run without dreading it! Definitely going to also do core exercises as well, can't be looking like Hal when he power walks in Malcolm and the middle!
Side to side trunk rotation is a natural counter movement to your hip movement in 3D. By stiffening your core, you will tire those muscles, put a lot of pressure on your legs, and have trouble breathing. Watch how Zersenay Tadesse runs to understand what I'm saying. Running is about letting your body flow, it's not about contracting muscles like bodybuilders.
muscle less Fitness flow is certainly the right word. What we’re going after is the sweet spot. Too stiff and too loose are on the extremes. How you find the “right amount” of engagement is the ticket!
I hate running... I am here to make running less painful, to help me not injure myself, and to be done with it as quickly, and as less painfully as possible. I run once a year just so that I don't forget running. : )
This is going to help a lot, thanks for the tips! People always complain that I swing my arms too much back and forth, and I calf scuff sometimes, guess I just have to focus on that stuff more and do the drills. Thanks for the help!
I think I just might do some of these stupid mistakes when I run. So learned something new again, thank you. Currently am injured (hips & buttocks). It's a pain not being able to run 😢 Just canceled my participation to a half marathon too.
Thank you...I never ran...I wanted now at 47, after a car hit me...I discovered I can not :(..but what you told and showed is great. Maybe, just maybe...I wil run ..Great advice :)
Got the app..it covers so much its really awesome. Thankyou for all your information Nate and the lovely way you present it. if my cadence for my 8 mile jaunt was 174 can I half it to get one leg?
15 to 20 years ago I used to run. It was fun and I was really good at middle distance (1 to 3 miles) I started up running again and I am so uncoordinated you'd never guess I could do a 5 minute mile once upon a time. Anyone have advice for an almost 50 year old who has sat at a desk the past 17 years?
Great vid! I’ve only started to run on the treadmill and I’ve been getting posterior shin splint (I googled the term lol). I did some stretching before running. Is it because of my form?
Thanks for posting this. What a difference it makes after doing these exercises. My biggest issue is not being able to catch my breath after hills. Should I slow down?
The Run Experience 373m of elevation, 225m at the start was hard. Weather changed from scorching sunshine to torrential rain made the last part of the course very muddy. Lovely views from The Nab and down across the valleys and out towards the sea. Videos uploaded 👈
Really helpful tips- saw some race photos of myself recently and got a shock at my terrible form so psyched to improve it! How often should you incorporate these drills per week?
please help me sir when I am running my body gets one sided while running like left shoulder is in front and right shoulder is backward it is not in equal position while running
I scuff the inside of my ankles and calves sometimes and also wobble occasionally straddling a line, both more pronounced because I’m pigeon-toed. Advice/exercises for pigeon-toed runners?
What are your thoughts on the weckmethod? Just curious, because I just watched his video, and he talks about getting more power by bending, and rotating..?
Just subscribed! Question, though. When I jog in place I can keep my arms out in front of me relatively straight as you demonstrate. When I'm actually running at an easy pace at stride, my left arm stays straight but my right one swings way out. I cannot hold it in. It kind of makes sense because my right leg does this wonky heel whip thing, so I think that's related. Any drills, exercises, stretches or anything else that might help? Thanks, Coach Nate! :)
Sounds like you’re building some great awareness to your running. Check out our running form playlist to go thru additional drills and exercises and to continue to go through this process!
I was hit by a car about 10 years ago, started running again in August. I had been struggling with pelvic tilt so I watched that video and started to incorporate that into my running but noticed my right hip flexor muscle is carrying more of that load, if that makes any sense? But is it possible that my right hip is higher than my left, not rotating or shifting but just sits higher because of how the car hit (left side @ 35 mph, I went over the car not under).
The best option is to go to a local running store where they will have experienced employees who can help you try on a variety of shoes and find what's right for you!
Try look at all elite male Marathon runners, and tell me Again, that your legs cannot land in the middle. You would NEVER prefer to land with you feed wide, that would just get you injured... worst video EVER made on running technique, it should be taken Down immediately!

You're so right to be focusing on form! And who knows, there might be a few PRs left in those legs, yet ;)
I’m a newbie runner so I’ll take any tips I can get!
Victor Cortez welcome! You’re in the right place 🙌🙌
This channel is one of the best for training tips and injury prevention. Good luck!

Need this, just back training after breaking my ankle and my running form is off. Thanks so much
I love this video, so helpful but what I love the most is that precious furbaby so well behaved!! adorable

Thank you so so much! This has explained everything I am experiencing. I watched this video with a massive: "ohhhh I seeeee" moment!

Great tip on straddling the line. Can't wait to focus on that my next run.
Any videos on maintaining muscle while increasing our stamina and endurance?
This is going to help a lot, thanks for the tips! People always complain that I swing my arms too much back and forth, and I calf scuff sometimes, guess I just have to focus on that stuff more and do the drills. Thanks for the help!
Happy to hear you pinpointed what you need to work on! It can take some time to make the changes, but it's worth it :)
Thank you !!! Awesome channel and video

It’s crazy how we’re supposed to be the smartest animals on this planet but we need tutorials on how to run properly
Same with diet, sleep etc. We have strayed too far, time to return to our roots.
this comment is very old but there is no right way to run, this is just a tutorial on a more comfortable way of running and less tiring basically. l
I meannn cheetahs are fast but I’m pretty sure if they were smart enough to make tutorial videos they’d be even faster.
It's not about running. It's about running better. Efficiency and speed. Anyone can run but do you want to do it better.
Our ability to gather and learn from other stories is in part one of the features of our humanity
I run (and walk) very "narrow" and I developed hallux limitus. I think this is exactly what I need! Thanks!!

As soon as i heard the thing about the calves, i knew i was in the right place
Do you have any videos on knee pain? Halfway through most my recent runs my knee gets tight to painful on the outside.
Yes! Search "knee" on our channel for the whole list, or check out this video to get you started --> ua-cam.com/video/Er7HFJ1AUBM/v-deo.html
Wonder if this is why I had IT band trouble
Really helpful tips- saw some race photos of myself recently and got a shock at my terrible form so psyched to improve it! How often should you incorporate these drills per week?
Try to hit drills in some version twice a week if you want to improve quickly!

I scuff the inside of my ankles and calves sometimes and also wobble occasionally straddling a line, both more pronounced because I’m pigeon-toed. Advice/exercises for pigeon-toed runners?
When I run I have knee pain. I think it is due to the fact that I heel strike. How can I prevent heel striking

The question, duh, is that fixable?
Why am I not able to lift my knees ?
Yess turn my ship around right round
I’ve been told I’m a “toe runner” how would you fix that?
I’m fast but I take small strides
i like your dog! 4:50min :D
We like her, too ;)
Why are your feet so internally rotated??
I had a surgery in 3rd grade that messed up my running. I'm in 9th now and people ask me why do you run like that? All I can say is I don't know.
dog at 5:36
Your dog sure is cute!
Hii
Pls suggest me a shoe my proronation is total flat.
The best option is to go to a local running store where they will have experienced employees who can help you try on a variety of shoes and find what's right for you!
The background dog is pooping 🐶 💩🤣
Wow where did that dog come from;)
I can't run long enough to even have form problems.
Huh-I wonder if that's why my hip flexors hurt every time I run...
hellen obiri disagrees
I drop my hip 😢
Or tuck my hip
I cant even imagine what terrible things this dog at 5:34 must have senn
did anyone see lions doing drills before hunting? me neither!
Nora is too cute
Dude, you have bad shoulders, you should better work on them 😪
