  • Korean Scientists Claim Superconductor Breakthrough | Vantage with Palki Sharma
Scientists from South Korea are claiming to have developed a superconductor material that works at room temperature. The material, called LK-99, could revolutionize power transmission, battery life and computing.
Labs in China and the US have begun verifying the claim from South Korea. If proven, how important is this invention?
Why are superconductors so important? Palki Sharma tells you.

I don't understand the comparison with a semiconductor either. A superconductor has zero resistance to the flow of electricity and would find application wherever there is current flow. Zero resistance means no loss of power during transmission.

Super conductor is comparable to conductors, like copper. Semiconductor means conditional, the conductivity can be switched on and off using electricity, thus a semiconductor can be made from a superconducting material to reduce the amount of power that cpus use. They got it wrong, funny to see.

If resistance is everything why can't we use conductors like copper in place of semiconductor? Infact we do doping in semiconductor to increase its conductivity to certain extent and not in excess. Semiconductor can store information and has amplification ability that's makes it distinct. Your resistance concept seems to be out of place.

Not just the finance..but the brains to teach and build on existing technology
I want the next generation Indians to not just manufacture and manage ....

    Create...! Engineer things to life!
Hopefully we xan lead such reasearches in the voming decades

Changes to the anology using the road. Signals exist but no friction on the road.
Super conductivity means "No Friction". Signals are like the gates in the chips which decide which way to turn.
In the friction less chip there is no delay in the passage os electrons.

To all the game enthusiasts, the biggest hurdle in fast gaming is the heat emitted by the processors and GPUs, this happens bcoz of the little resistance in the path of current of the semiconductors, when high amount of current passes through this resistance then that turns into heat (in case of LEDs it turns into light).
if these semiconductors are replaced with superconductors then there will be no heat (superconductors=zero resistance), u can eliminate fans and you can build much bigger and fast processors and GPUs without the need for thermal management.

Do not provide misinformation. Semiconductors provide switching properties needed for logic functions. The inputs and outputs of logic cells are metal wired. Superconductors are different, and if that room temperature superconducting material is used in place of today's resistive metal lines or wires connecting semiconductor logic cells, then what you say will follow.
Again, both are needed, not one replacing the other. We need apples and oranges. 😂

@@striker44What you said is true, we need both, but what do you think scientists are trying to do with the superconductor research, isn't the aim to come up with a switching device with a partial or complete superconductance? it is the Rds that is causing the ohmic losses, replacing that with superconductance will be the target.
I am just speculating, if you have any different opinion or have read anything different then pls share

Sure this can speed up CPU computational processes, but the big thing is the energy waste reduction/elimination. When they rate a CPU at 240 watts, about 80% of that is energy wasted on heat, just like an incandescent light bulb. (think 2 - 100W bulbs of heat that needs to be dissipated.)

We have talked about superconductivity for decades. It was first demonstrated at very short distances, then at very low temperatures.
We are probably decades away from a practical application. It is highly unlikely that the first applications will be in transmission of electricity to cut transmission losses. It may take quite a while to make it commercially viable. It will be more esoteric, like super conducting magnets, electromagnetic trains, medical diagnostics, probably making supercomputers etc.
