“The Church, the pillar and ground of truth,” or in other words, the consensus of the Fathers. This sounds circular, and in some ways it is, but we follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit in the Body of Christ, the Church. There are a host of statements and argument that further confirm and elaborate on this and support the notion that each age has Church Fathers.
1 Corinthians 4:12. 1 Thessalonians 4:11. Colossians 2:8. Jude 1:11. Something about the last bits there do not sound like blessed Philaret. I Thessalonians 5:21. Perhaps context of that moment in time.
“Christians belong to no earthly country.” St. Clement "For the sake of Christ, Christians regard such earthly beauty , adornment, glory, honor and the riches of Kings and princes as nothing because they have tasted divine beauty and the life of heavenly immortality has dropped like dew into their souls. Therefore, they ardently long for that Love of the heavenly King and they have Him alone before their eyes in every desire. For His sake they detach themselves from every earthly love and tear lose from every ephemeral means so that they may possess that one desire in their hearts and never mix anything else with it.” St. Macarius - 50 Spiritual Homilies “I do not like the pretensions of governments- the grounds upon which they demand my obedience…I believe in God but I detest theocracy. For every government consists in mere men, and is, strictly viewed, a makeshift; if it adds to its commands “thus saith the Lord,” it lies and lies dangerously....All that can really happen is that men will take charge of the destiny of others. They will be simply men; some greedy, cruel and dishonest. The more completely we are planned the more powerful they will be. Have we discovered some new reason why, this time, power should not corrupt as it has done before?” -C.S. Lewis “Like other semitic nations, Israel regarded God as her King. His will was law for His people. He was judge and arbiter in all disputes, patron of justice at home and the wager of Israel’s wars abroad. At the new years feast His accession to the throne was celebrated with the cry: Jahweh is King. The hymns sung at the feast praised him as the God exalted above all other gods and as Lord of the world. His kingship became a [resent reality through the performance of the culture. With Israel having thus become a state and with the institution of monarchy, a conflict arose between the kingship of Jahweh and that of earthly monarchy. The prophets resisted the introduction of monarchy. The story in I Samuel 8 records how the elders came to Saul and Ramah and demanded “make us a king to judge other nations.’ But the thing displeased Samuel.” And when he prayed to the Lord, the Lord answered Him: ‘Harken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should reign over them.’ The prophets dated all Israel's sin from the day that Saul was crowned King.’ The prophets fulminated against the new institutions and their moral consequences…. If kings were willing to accept the necessities of government, they were simply not in a position to follow the ideals of the prophets. They were bound to be anxious about defense. They had to ensure that the state was strong, and to that end they had to enter into foreign alliances. (The prophets) sought to uphold sovereignty of God by denying the right of the state to administer justice and in insisting that judicial functions should be placed in the hands of the priestly caste they were undermining the very foundation of the state. ….At the outset the earthly monarchy was regarded as a threat to the Kingship of God. The old tribal structure was replaced by a new organization in provinces. The native organization of the people was replaced by one which met the technical requirements of an organized state. A new aristocracy of bureaucrats came into being. The army, which hitherto had been a popular muster now consisted of professional soldiers. This made it necessary to raise taxes, as we hear in Samuel 8:10-18.” -Rudolph Bultman “Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket; they are regarded as dust on the scales; He weighs the islands as though they were fine dust. 17 Before him all the nations are as nothing; they are regarded by him as worthless and less than nothing.” -Isiah 40

@@neame-bh3uq the point maximos is making, which was more clear in his reply to someone else under this video, is that many people, ESPECIALLY americans, go way beyond Christian patriotism and regard their nation as heaven. Very good. This makes total sense and I am glad to have a Church Father as a source, thank you.
A church father is one of the great saints from the early church.
The Orthodox Church does not define “Church Father” so narrowly. Every age has Church Fathers.
@@OrthodoxWisdom and who defines who is a church father then?

If the infidels are desecrating our churches and persecuting our brothers in Christ is that not a justified war against them ?
