The competitive scene for NES Tetris is bigger than for Modern Tetris. It's a niche "esport" but being able to play NES Tetris online on original Nintendo hardware is a big deal
The problem with publishers just going back to single player games is they need live services is to be successful so they can earn profit. Sony can't survive on single-player experiences anymore because the budgets have ballooned so much from trying to out-do GTA or justify the power of their platform that they can't take risks. However, playing it safe is exactly what's causing the diminishing returns. They've already basically admitted they can't compete with older games, either, be it due to the power of nostalgia or just lack of original vision. I'd usually really be hyped for the Tetris on NSO announcement but Tetris Forever took the wind out of the sails for the announcement now. I'm pretty sure it's on there. (Worth every penny if you're a big retro Tetris fan)
I just want Valve to officially release SteamOS for your own custom PCs. I mostly use the steam deck docked but I would love to build a second PC with steamOS installed for that docked experience. Especially with how much of a pain windows is.
bazzite is really good! give it a chance i say on a secondary drive, while not official the team behind it is so dedicated and doing awesome work and posting updates many times a week
I've heard that the reason Nintendo droped their partnership with Sony back in the day was because if Nintendo and Sony's partnership went trough, Sony would own Nintendo's IP's. Is that right?
They would get ownership for stuff released on CDs basically, plus the console would lose all the Nintendo branding (you can see it on the prototype). They basically wanted to use Nintendo to get their own console out of them
I think the deal would have given Sony full control of Nintendo's IPs on that console and it would have also given Sony a higher cut of the profit per game sold then Nintendo would have gotten.
@@talalahsan6824 I imagine they knew and it was their way of saying no, really rude one, but makes sense considering what Sony wanted from them, plus this is the same company that laughed in the face of Microsoft people that were negotiating acquisition.
Even as a fan of the Tetris games.... even I was like... what is the big deal about the NES version of Tetris coming to NSO... apparently I heard that it's the first time that version has come out officially to something other than the original NES, and it was not part of that Tetris Collection that came out recently... even then... yay? The Game Boy version of Tetris is what I tend to think of when I think of classic Tetris.
If you're a tetris fan you must have watched the documentary about how the game was made and all the licensing issues and shenanigans that occurred, years before it got anywhere near the gameboy.
With the 30th anniversary and everything, I was hoping Sony would do a PS2 Classic. Try and make good for the garbage that was the first one. I’m still hoping they do another one eventually. Mini consoles will be popular again.
I mean at the end most of the stuff based on actual agreement is just speculation with some general facts and statements prior known about the whole Nintendo vs Sony saga. Like people have their own prejudices and biases towards the company they favour and that's why you see two extreme ends of the spectrum on this specific matter but imo at the end of the both Nintendo and Sony are massive corporations and when making a deal they have more lawyers and financial people looking over this than any of us can imagine so if deal was unfavourable then obviously Nintendo would have discarded the idea altogether right there and then but the fact that they went ahead and then ditched the project at one of the biggest tech conference really speaks volumes.
The big betrayal came from the fact that Nintendo didn't even tell Sony that the deal was off. Nintendo just went and made a deal with Philips and announced it, and that's how Sony found out that the deal was off.
Everyone talks about how we don't want an all digital future as if we are not already there.. Games discs just don't carry the game on them anymore and we have been digital for a long time already.
The Sony vs Nintendo should really be adapted into a movie lol like the idea that a company partnered with another to persue a different venture and then got publicly humiliated and backstabbed in a way then further setting them off and really making playstation just to get revenge and prove themselves in the industry is probably one of the best movie ideas that can adapted successfully.
This is a very one-sided "my corporation was the underdog hero" telling of the story. Sony was a FAR larger company back then, and the contracts they were offering Nintendo were very one sided.
@Ash_Yu well it's facts that's what it is at the end of the day and as for contracts, well Nintendo itself is a big multi billion corporation so neither you or I have to go and defend them cause they have their own lawyers and way more intellectual people working for them so they know what's fair or unfair.
@@nash215you can’t tell these dudes nothing. Now everybody know about Sony’s contract with Nintendo was one sided like they were there in the room is laughable Nintendo played Sony like a fool and Sony rose above it
Valve has “Publicly” said they want bring steam os to desktop PCs and other devices. We just don’t know when. Maybe that starting happen now. I just hope Valve has GTX/RTX drivers. Cus right now that whats is mostly holding them back from launching this to desktop PCs. As we know Nvidia GTX/RTX still has huge market share of gpu on desktop PCs. While Amd has gone up some. Most gaming PCs are running RTX 2xxx or newer. I would love see Valve launch new steam box or steam machines with zen 3+ or newer with RDNA3 or newer system. With at least 3 hdmi / 4 usb 4.0 ports and with wifi/Ethernet 2.5 mbps. Something that VR a capable. At least 1080p/60 (10+ Tflops) for low end model and 1440p/60+ or better for high end one. Yes I already have my own home built pc. But if launch steam box or steam machines v2.0. It would mean steam os be available for all PCs. Windows 10 users could then easily install steam os instead bloated windows 11. We all hate windows 11. Steam os would be better option.

Also said “back in the day” it worked as if the industry isn’t significantly bigger and different now 😂 not that I defend the strategy but he literally described concord as the other option
Honestly after finding out more details on Sony/Nintendo agreement I think Nintendo dodged a bullet there. They were basically paving the way for Sony to take them over with it, I don't understand why they even took it in consideration, maybe them ignoring Sony at the last possible moment was a harsh way to respond to these agreements.
People tend to say it was Nintendo’s arrogance that created PlayStation but I think negligence is more accurate. It was said negligence that made them not see the true nature of Sony’s contract and if they were more diligent then they would have kicked Sony out the door before touching the pen and they wouldn’t have put themselves in a catastrophic lose lose situation.
@@mectainea5575 I don't believe that. Nintendo's lawyers weren't too stupid to read and understand the contract they negotiated with Sony. Nintendo understood all the terms and were willing to agree with those terms ...until they weren't willing to agree. Now, if Nintendo didn't want to go through with it, all they had to do was tell Sony that the deal was off. But instead, Nintendo negotiated another deal with Philips, and announced that partnership in a way that publicly humiliated Sony.

Well thank God you made the announcement. We were all waiting on pins and needles. Make sure you tell us all when you decide to leave Twitter too. Will certainly need that update as well.
Companies do everything short of just say they don't want to make physical games anymore. It's not like Microsoft can't afford to use some extra discs, but they would rather people say, "What's the point?" and go digital.
I dont think Indy is going to do very well. I have heard many times from many people now, that they think it looks like a janky VR title with some floating hands in your face. And the random cuts from 1st person to 3rd person are weird... It gives me the impression that it was originally designed to be a VR game, and half way through Microsoft told them this needed to be a much bigger deal and was then switched to a full AAA release. Love to be wrong, but Microsoft wont even let reviewers talk about it until its out. Same day embargo. Thats usually not good 🤷
It could be that the game was in development as a VR game, for Sony's PSVR2, before Microsoft bought Bethesda. Since Xbox doesn't have its own VR unit, the game had to be altered.

12:12 Microsoft is discontinuing security updates for windows 10. Getting SteamOS available for the public before that happens would be a pretty genius move. Anyone who uses their PC exclusively for gaming would see a very compelling alternative to windows.
The system requirements for Indiana Jones and The Great Circle are seemingly so steep because of one reason: Ray Tracing. As far as we know, this will be the first game to have RT baked into is code without any way to turn it completly off, not even with mods.
With windows 10 losing security updates next year and windows 11 only working with certain hardware. Steam os might be a great option for people with older gaming pcs.

I purchased Tetris Forever. The fact that some of the best Tetris games I've ever played weren't included was annoying. Nintendo did a survey about a week ago and asked about my Tetris Forever experience. I pretty much told them that I found the lack of their Tetris games disturbing. It's almost as if Nintendo sabotaged Tetris Forever to prove a point by then asking fans and BOOM! Tetris on NSO. Of course, Tetris Forever did at least prime me for the fact that the NES Tetris and Famicom Tetris games were different due in part to the legal stuff regarding rights from region to region. As an aside, a neighbor of mine had Tengen's Tetris on NES back when I was a kid. I hope they still have it.
A steamOS box doesn't sound bad. If they can make it cheaper than the steam deck too. (It should be cheaper anyways since it won't have a screen and such). If they do that I can definitely see it get popular.
Square Enix has realized that making their games exclusive to PlayStation wasn't such a good idea, they have already released a few games on PC and they will probably also release games on Xbox and especially Switch 2
@ If they're going to roll out SteamOS as a standalone product, I feel like it would behoove them to also plant some prebuilt SteamOS PCs in the retail space. People end up with Windows PCs because that's the one they can walk into a store and buy at a reasonable, non-apple price tag. Then of course it's the highest compatibility OS on top of that. The Linux-based SteamOS really has the potential to shake up the PC market in a big way. I hope to see that.

😂When I was a kid like 11-12 with my aging SNES when choosing N64 or PS1, it was at first N64?(or just continue playing Diablo on my PC) but it was FF7 that finally made me choose PS1 and never went back (until I owned both NS and PS5)❤❤❤
the PS1 was Sony best console, they tried hard, the company is quite boring nowadays and this is not good in entertainment.
@@mielthesquid6536 It wasn't even their Hardware.
"Its more comparable to the older Final Fantasy titles"
No shit eh?! considering the fact ITS MADE BY THE GUY WHO MADE FINAL FANTASY.
What steam is trying to do with steam OS is interesting. Sounds very similar to what Xbox is trying to do . Sounds like Xbox moved away from competing with Sony to competing with steam
Even though I'm a Nintendo fangirl I still feel nostalgic setting my PS5 to PS2 mode
Me too, I just wish it actually looked like PS2. The boot up is sick though.
Edit, fanboy, I’m a fanboy 😂
I'd usually really be hyped for the Tetris on NSO announcement but Tetris Forever took the wind out of the sails for the announcement now. I'm pretty sure it's on there. (Worth every penny if you're a big retro Tetris fan)
I’m still kind of suspicious if it’s on there or not. They advertised “Famicom Tetris” which is absolutely terrible.
Once they nail down multiplayer game support, vr support, and nvidia card support then I’d switch over to a steam OS
Who remembers The Last Story?
Never played it but I do hope it makes the jump to Switch 1/2.
ain't that the knock off to never ending story
I've heard that the reason Nintendo droped their partnership with Sony back in the day was because if Nintendo and Sony's partnership went trough, Sony would own Nintendo's IP's. Is that right?
They would get ownership for stuff released on CDs basically, plus the console would lose all the Nintendo branding (you can see it on the prototype). They basically wanted to use Nintendo to get their own console out of them
Yeah that's the part most people don't know
@@narcisopedro3474 Nintendo would have known if they read the thing they signed .. instead of making a back door deal at the last moment.
I just want another soul sacrifice game
Hell yeah!! God I miss that game
@@Fanto_Sir I did learn some of that from watching it, I think from the Gaming Historian.
@Fanto_Sir it's an interesting & scary story
Nes tetris is the one thats played in the classic world championships, its a very popular version
@@Fanto_SirI watched the Tetris movie on Apple TV+ which I believe like 80% of that movie is fictionalized
Super excited for Indiana Jones
With the 30th anniversary and everything, I was hoping Sony would do a PS2 Classic. Try and make good for the garbage that was the first one. I’m still hoping they do another one eventually. Mini consoles will be popular again.
Or make another PS1 Classic with a different catalogue. There's certainly a wide variety of games to draw from that could be worth it
I mean at the end most of the stuff based on actual agreement is just speculation with some general facts and statements prior known about the whole Nintendo vs Sony saga.
Nintendo just went and made a deal with Philips and announced it, and that's how Sony found out that the deal was off.
hi Spawn Wave
Everyone talks about how we don't want an all digital future as if we are not already there.. Games discs just don't carry the game on them anymore and we have been digital for a long time already.
They do carry the game on them, you just can't play from the disc.
The thing you should be pointing to is how PC has been all digital for a long time.
Easy go back to retro
Everyone?.... meanwhile the 75% of public purchase digital
20:50 dang I would have paid $60-$70 for xdefiant
It shouldn’t had been free2play
@Jordancameron88 100% agree
Now everybody know about Sony’s contract with Nintendo was one sided like they were there in the room is laughable Nintendo played Sony like a fool and Sony rose above it
The NES version of Tetris on NSO is kind of big, because the Classic Tetris World Championship is played on that version every year.
I remember loving how colorful Terri's for the NES was. Plus, the music is unforgettable! Now to hum the music...
Im glad my phone isn't the only phone that auto corrected Tetris to Terri's
@itchyisvegeta LOL! You'd think Tetris was so popular it would be spelled correctly.
Hadn’t watched bro in a long time, had to search up the channel just to make sure it’s doing good
steam needs their own OS to be independent from Microsoft. i refuse to use Windows.
My ideology! :)
But if your still using Microsoft for to boot the steam OS then what's the point, I think it could work only for their own systems and hardware
The captioning is back, thanks.
Hey, Todd Howard basically said with Starfield that they don't optimize games for us. We have to optimize and get a new rig for them.
Hopefully get the Dino crisis remake announcement for 30th anniversary 😅
The Great Circle looks genuinely next gen, the ray tracing requirement does not shock me. Jedi Survivor was also designed for RT and had a rasterisation fallback. But we will see more games that are actually using ray tracing rendering
Hooray for Philips! 🙌🏻
C music for NES Tetris is God Tier.
I hope they included 2 player mode for Tetris, the tengen version did laps around the official due to the ability to do 2 player mode
I didn't even know about Fantasian till you mentioned it. Just ordered it on Switch. Probably would have looked for a special/collectors edition if there was one.
If I’m going to hook up a console to a TV, it’s going to need to have stuff like UA-cam and Netflix and other streaming apps integrated into it as well as discord for voice chat
"not a great strategy" lmfao what?! It's the biggest money making section of the whole gaming industry.
It's quite literally the best strategy lol to a company anyway
What is?

It is a good strategy if done right. Not the generic games coming out recently.
@@mectainea5575
I don't believe that.
If valve can get a desktop version of steamOS to market before Windows 10 support ends, they could pick up a HUGE swathe of the market.
I'm very close to just walking away from all future game releases, with the exception of AAA Nintendo IP, and just replaying everything from NES to current because every day I hear of a new game (to me) that I'd want to play but just don't have the free time. Jon found lifes cheat code: play games for a living.
The good thing is there's enough games already released from NES to PS5 and everything in-between to last a lifetime
You notice how a number of video games are still currently reduced despite Black Friday and Cyber Monday being behind us? Thinking of snagging Stellar Blade at 50 while it lasts
Well, it looks like I'm not buying Indiana jones. Unless they do a physical release on ps5 with 2 discs. I don't buy games that aren't available physically. Got plenty of other games to play.
Gamepass for me
@@mikeuk666which is totally fine but Microsoft want that the only options and everything tied to their servers no ownership m
Wow, what a hero, thanks for letting us all know
Hi Spawn Wave how you doing man 😁👍
I dont think Indy is going to do very well.
Thats usually not good 🤷
You have a point here, if you think about it it seems true
luckily you're wrong
It could be that the game was in development as a VR game, for Sony's PSVR2, before Microsoft bought Bethesda. Since Xbox doesn't have its own VR unit, the game had to be altered.
@@tjfoz yah? You a dev? You a reviewer? Care to break that embargo?

Sony: Yeah, Nin left us at the altar.
Nin:
Japan Gamers: Hey Sony, why did you leave us?...
I’m running Bazzite (a Linux port of steam OS) on a 2013 Mac Pro. It’s not perfect, but it’s pretty great.
The system requirements for Indiana Jones and The Great Circle are seemingly so steep because of one reason: Ray Tracing. As far as we know, this will be the first game to have RT baked into is code without any way to turn it completly off, not even with mods.
A you imagine if Final Fantasy 7 came to Nintendo with 10 cart for the whole game. 😂😅
Well I WAS going to preinstall Indy on my ROG Ally but I guess I'm just gonna lean on the cloud access this time
Food for thought, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 is a higher rated game than BotW on Metacritic
Thank you for uploading everyday reliable gaming news!! Coffee breakfast and newswave before work!!! Happy Thursday y'all!!
The Indiana Jones requirements are insane. I wonder how unoptimized the game will be.
Sony literally took the divorce from Nintendo, said, "But I'm taking the kids," and pulled Squaresoft.
in theory, A steam console (not handheld) should smoke xbox and Playstation. All of their games would be available there.
Nintendo to Sony: It's not you, it's me.
I downloaded the Pokémon TCG Pocket yesterday after your video, and I’m already addicted 😅
Tetris Battle (aka Tetris Friends) needs to come back in some form, playing old Tetris games sucks when you spent some enjoyment with better version.
Valve should make a windows competitor that would be interesting
Very excited for KCD2
Does jones come out on ps5 at the same time as xbox?
I want to see if they have pro support.
I checked the calendar. December 9 is on a Monday, not Sunday.
1:51 i think they've just been honest about the specs required. Or is business as usual and this is a new 'can it run...
And to think the Atari 2600 version of Raiders of the Lost Ark was only 8 kilobytes in size.
Still amazing what they managed on the Commodore 64 & ZX Spectrum
If Valve would launch a Steam console at $700, Sony would be quick to differentiate itself by adding a disc drive to the PS5 Pro for no extra cost.
Why do people act like Xbox doesn't exist now? What can Steam offer that Microsoft can't? Nothing at all. They tried the whole SteamBoX thing already.
With windows 10 losing security updates next year and windows 11 only working with certain hardware. Steam os might be a great option for people with older gaming pcs.
I've been dreaming of a Guardian Legend reimagining for awhile. I'd pay $70 for that!
Ultra setting for Indiana Jones requiring a 4090 is kinda insane. What are they even doing? Adding full res RTX everywhere?
the 4090 is in the full ray tracing section.
and the notes says also with DLSS/frame gen set to performance at 4k resolution.
ultra in the regular section says 4080 or 7900 xt for 4k native.
It's an 'option'
Pony entertainment lied about the Nintendo paystation prototype partnership Nintendo jumped from the deal when Sony wanted 95% of sales sold of there discs should it go forward Nintendo frowned right away but didn't bother fighting pony entertainment and just ended the partnership asoon as the conditions came to light this why paystation did that crash bandicoot advert with crash talking shert outside Nintendo HQ in the 90s
You do know steam machines existed in the past right? They aren't new
Square Enix has realized that making their games exclusive to PlayStation wasn't such a good idea, they have already released a few games on PC and they will probably also release games on Xbox and especially Switch 2
7:35 LOOK AT THAT FINAL FANTASY 7 ON PLAYSTATION THE HISTORY FOLKS I LOVE IT
Steam Machines are a much better idea than they were 10 years ago.
Yeah I don't know about that you can basically clip together a professionally made PC with one hand and no tools these days
But that Ananta trailer though?!
Everyone knows that the best Tetris is Tengen Tetris.
I bought KCD about a month ago, and it is my GOTY for 2024, amazing game, best $3 spent this year for sure. I now prepurchased gold edition of KCD2 and yes, it is direct continuation of the story.
TBH, it's about time the normal Tetris is available on Nintendo Online.
I wonder if that move made Nintendo say okay Square say bye to Super Mario RPG sequel and other future decisions that would have came to realization.
