There was a time in like 2014-15 when reaction channels were completely chastised for about a year. Ever since then I've seen a much healthier sphere of reaction channels emerge to the point where it's actually a great and unique part of UA-cam.
Bro I remember when youtube had that feature where reactions to the videos you were watching were literally displayed under the video. So every time you would watch a video, there'd be a still image of a big-titted woman sitting in a chair with her cleavage hanging out. It was honestly hilarious, and people got so pissed UA-cam straight up removed that feature.
Cause back then you had people like Jinx and rashadthereactor basically saying these 2 things. We make this content for the lonely people with no friends, and Imma react to these content creators and profit off it. Vs now where its people like Nik, Too lit mafia, R&N etc. who make content for fun and have healthy relationships with the bands/Creators they react too, vs again the jinxs and rashads of the platform.
For me adding to the conversation is crucial to a react channel, like if I feel I have learnt something then I come back... As an example... One of my favorite react channels is Vlogging Through History, he creates his own content but also reacts to other videos on history... His reactions are sometimes double to three times the length of the original content because he provides so much extra info and research... Like he reacts to Oversimplified videos and adds to much more that it is almost essential viewing everytime Oversimplified releases a video... Recently he has been visiting places from WWI and in the build up he used other channels videos to talk about what he was going to see and do... I found him through Oversimplified and then through him have found some amazing history channels... Reacts work as a way of opening people up to new content
Well when someone implies you're a sexual abuser when you aren't, you kind of have a duty to stomp out the accuser. Charlie was tame for the most part and was right throughout his video.
Ahh yes the hyperbola on page 8...also after pages 1-7 which gives better context. It's like the meme of all discord mods being child groomers, everyone knows it's not true and it's a small fraction that it may apply to
dude the amount of bands i discovered because of you nik is insane. yes the views nik gets are not going to the artist but i wouldn't have listened to those artists in the first place if it hadn't been for nik. every case is different but in nik's case i have nothing but good words, you are a blessing to this community and you going off on a song makes it so much better. also every time nik laughs i can't help but join him, that laugh is contagious
i’ll share my story, i love Veil of Maya, arguably my favorite band, i would not know they even exist with out a reactor, half the bands in my playlist would have lost a listen on Apple music from me if not for Nik and what’s his name at Hardcore. this mindset is so awful
I’ve discovered a ton of bands because of Nik, whether it’s on his live streams or posted UA-cam videos. I wouldn’t have known about the bands otherwise, but I watch Nik’s content and discover new bands. Then I can directly support those bands. I see react channels more as exposure and possibly even advertisement rather than exploitation.
"Pisces" - Jinjer is the biggest example of 12:36 They were already creating good music, but reaction channels blew up that specific live performance and it went from less than a million views to now over 60m views.
I feel like reactions are in the end, what UA-cam is, or was, supposed to be about. It used to have the logo "Broadcast yourself' and that's what people are doing.
I'm wasn't really a big fan of the modern metalcore scene, it was through this channel, through the shared experience of reactions, that convinced me to listen to more and get into it
I haven't watched the whole video but I'm soo grateful, of channels like Nik. I mean, by putting out reaction videos, it helps get *said* band more views and I truly appreciate that Nik. You have introduced me to soo many bands, I have never heard of, BECAUSE you made a reaction video, to that band and their song. Thank you Nik, your hard work is not gone unnoticed! 🙏👏🤘
react channels like Nik, HardCore, and RachelleReacts have introduced to me to a ton of artists I wouldn't have ever listened to otherwise. are there exploitative reactors out there? sure. but to compare them to literal sexual predators is just so extreme, inaccurate, and dismissive of the seriousness of SA. and the fact that DarkViper doubled down on this comparison on twitter makes it worse.
Thank's to Nik (and other reactors) I got familiar to (and bought albums of): Architects, Spiritbox, Jinjer, Bad Omens, Light The Torch, Sion, BMTH and I'm sure a bunch of other bands too. And after I Watched the reaction I also jumped to the original videos and commented there. So Bands should be glad that there are reactors out there. Don't talk sxit about reactors. Stay open minded and keep rocking🤘
Good example in my opinion is falling in reverse popular monster. Was a banger song but i know for a fact very few people besides me actually kept up with them to realize a song came out from them, some even disliked ronnie. But SOOO many people reacted to it and that song absolutely exploded thanks to it. (Was probobly gonna do decent anyways) but the reactors just made it even bigger.
I'm not really sure that DarkViperAU's argument applies to music reactors. By default, music is something most people discover, and then listen to repeatedly many times. If someone were to react to a music video, and a viewer of that channel watched it and enjoyed the original content portrayed on that channel, chances are they would be watching the original video in the future, if not subscribing to the band altogether. That's because music is like a drug. If you find a song you like, dopamine is released in your brain. That will make you want to listen to it more. Primarily viewable content is a bit different. Because it's an experience that takes basically 100% of your attention, it becomes less digestible on repeat in the same way music is. I listen to music for probably like 40-50% of the time I'm awake. I'm not spending that time relistening to all of Nik's reactions. Those are usually a one-and-done viewing that I'm unlikely to watch again, compared to the original content that I will actually want to return to multiple times.
I got introduced to Spiritbox through Nik's reactions to them. Since then I've spent a couple hundred dollars on their merch and music, and I'm going to their show next year. Reactors being bad for musicians is such a brain rotted take lol
I wouldn’t be nearly as interested in metal as I am if it weren’t for Kardavox Academy. He’s on whole other level above average react channels, IMO, but think about how many people he’s got invested in appreciating and/or learning harsh vocals. I wouldn’t know how to growl properly if it weren’t for reaction channels.
12:45 is Spiritbox in a nutshell, and I'm sure they'd agree. They had a sizeable following already through IWABO, and the earlier EPs (iirc, there was three EPs?). But reaction channels started picking them up and it shows. Though, to be fair, the pandemic halted them right as they were already picking up steam.
I know a lot of smaller artists that send their early links to some of reactors. That’s how they’re expanding and it’s building a large family like audience too.
Reaction videos are just content building off of other content. If that's wrong, what else is? Movie reviews? It's the same thing. If the person adds something to the discussion, it's probably worthwhile. I think loads and loads of people like me with a very, very small following would absolutely love absolutely any more eyes on their work, (almost) no matter how Reactions are just a great way to get more eyes on anything, I've found loads of great music through him alone (thanks :))
Fun fact about reaction videos and me... I have really bad primarily inattentive adhd... Music and reactions are the only type of videos I don't watch on 1.5x/+ speed
Aye Nik I'de like to personally thank you for introducing me to both Spirit Box and Crystal lake last year, because without you or other reaction channesl I would have never known about them.
What if UA-cam simply made a react tool for creators that gave both the person reacting, and the original content channel a "view" when the react version was watched? The tool would be something like the creator selects upload, then it asks what kind of video they are uploading. Here, UA-cam can provide options for React vids, Original content, and a slew of other types of videos. Heck, creating these categories in UA-cam could even help with algorithms, and with viewers searching for a specific video.
I've discovered TONS of music, content, etc through reaction videos (thanks Nik). Another example of a similar circumstance I'd argue is old school pvp gaming montages. I discovered basically all of my current favorite bands through old WoW pvp videos 🤣
"It's the same with bands, that have good music, good writing, and good production -- they may never get picked up." Unsure why, but a pretty baller band from my home-state, named Curses, came to mind.
I'm a lifelong metalhead, but if it wasn't for my man Nik, I would have probably never heard of Eskimo Callboy, which also led into WBTBWB. I am a huge fan of both now. I even had tickets to EC's Halloween show in Indiana before the U.S. tour was canceled.
Just to add to Nik's "It's not a zero sum game" argument - Yes, if I like a song covered by a reaction, I will add it in spotify and possibly give it a couple of watches on youtube if the video is good. BUT ALSO, I will check out several reaction channels for the different aspects they cover - Geebz is going to go deep into the production, Alex might have something enlightening to say about lyrics, while Nik will make the stank faces and ignore bass. And I'll watch every second of that!
Not gonna lie, I had to pause to go watch the sausage videos. Dude's still grinding. Both literally and figuratively. I can't wait until the reactor section of UA-cam starts getting treated as "mind share" like corporate marketing. Or has it already happened? This video is a year old. Things change and I live under a rock.
watching halfway through the video, youtube can actually find out if they actually consume more content from the reactions, as for bands, it's somewhat limited, since spotify and other streaming services except youtube music doesn't share the data, but if they become fans, google can actually know if they listened and consume more content from the said band, so I think the big corp must step in for once?
Without reaction content on UA-cam I might not have found ice nine kills, and now I've listen to them countless time on UA-cam and amazon music so yes some people might listen to the reaction then move on but there's more than likely a good number of people who will then move on to listen to the original content creators channel/stream/ music I enjoy watching yours and Charlie's content, keep it up 👌
To me reactors are the internet equivalent of you being super excited about the new band or video you found and you wanna show everyone except it's doing it on an international scale instead of just locally.
Probably nether would have regurlarly listened to metal without reactions channels. It's certain I would not have discovered half the bands I listen to now everyday
I subbed to Nik from watching a content creator do a react video from one of his videos. This isn’t theft, it’s added exposure like he says. If it’s good youll sub regardless.. it’s the way of the beast.
First of all, I love Charlie's videos. He is freaking hilarious. I watched his videos about this and I agree with him. There are so many bands and other channels I found through a reaction video that I wouldn't have know about otherwise. A couple bands I found through reaction videos have become some of my favorites! Dark viper is presenting his opinions as facts and unfortunately people will watch his videos and accept it as the truth. And it really upsets me that dark viper is saying horrible things about other people/channels that he obviously knows nothing about. I think this is a win-win situation for both the reactor and original content creator. Usually the smaller channel will get more views and possibly more subs from people who never would've heard of them otherwise. Tank the Tech recently did a video in which he asked bands, labels and producers how they feel about reaction channels and most of them agree it benefits them because it gives them more exposure to a variety of people.
Say what you will about the comments he made that were controversial, that was the most coherent rebuttal that could have ever been said. I don't disagree with him one bit and I love how he said that money might be the thing that he focused on so that's why he talks about it constantly, so true. People do that all the time
The most unfortunate part about smaller groups, or youtubers, creators(etc). That you don't hear about, you probably won't hear about. Which means more reactors gives smaller channels and groups a fighting chance. So more reactors is probably better. To a degree anyways.
I can't say much about the metal ppl i follow bc of others on yt bc that's rather more from twitch raids but i went down a U.S. law stuff rabbit hole on UA-cam and now i follow like 10 of those people because of 1 youtuber.
At the very base level - This is basically a 3rd party company paying for the OC's marketing. (OC Creator - Posts their content) --> (Reactor - Markets/Promotes the OC) --> (UA-cam - Pays the reactor or both parties) And as a few other people have said below. You probably have bands begging you to check out their latest stuff. In hopes that you'll upload a reaction or even just mention them on Twitch.
7:11 when they are talking about people not going to other channels from the react video apparently everyone here watches Nik reacting to a sick new song and then literally never listens to the song on any other platform lmao In all seriousness Ive discovered so many bands because of Niks reaction videos. Like I guarentee I never would have found Eskimo Callboy or WBTBWB if Nik hadnt reacted to their stuff.
Hi Nik.. This is Kumar from India. You are an inspiration to me as a guitarist... Just a request... Please react to the song AAJ by BLOODYWOOD.. They are a folk metal band from India. They are breaking through with their Debut album Rakshak in this March. Thanks a lot Nik. You rule🤘🏻
Without music react channels, I would be missing out on a lot of bands otherwise I would never know. Even with watching music react channels, I give the music more of a chance than if I see the name scrolling somewhere
Charlie reacts to Nik = Charlie's whole comment section is......." We do fun metal things here!!" Then they take that saying and typing it in on their fave reactor's videos till all of YT says "We do fun metal things here!!" That would be a great world to live in!!
I see it as pretty simple: 1) I watch the original content and I want to see if other people like it to it so I'll watch reactions 2) I haven't heard of the music that has been reacted to so either I'll watch it and like it and view more of their content or dislike it and not view any more of their content 3) I already know I don't like the band or song so I'll most likely not watch either the original content or the reaction In any of these three scenarios, the most that's possibly getting taken away from the original content creator is a single view which I most likely would never have found the original if it wasn't for the reactor's video in the first place.
If it's a band I know I will go watch their video first and then go to reaction channels. Then there's times I go to a reaction channel first is it's a band I never heard and then, go watch the music video.
All my favorite artists/musicians/artists/creators have less than 100 subs or followers on UA-cam and other platforms. They'd all appreciate a bigger react channel or anyone featuring them in their video. We call these channels *react* but I see it as *support* and I feel like like the guy that called out reaction channels is going to do the opposite of what he was intending and react channels are going to get a boost after all this.
Agree. Hard work and time spent /= success. I might write the best novel ever (tm) and only sell 5 copies in this age of essentially free self-publishing and internet.
Hey nick i always enjoyed your videos, i mean could i request music please. Broken by the scream - Sayonara Birthday.. It would be hard, i mean you'll know.
I mean look at Lorna Shore... I mean they would have been big on their own because they make awesome music, but this big this fast with a european tour with Carnifex in Spring? This is because they blew up through reactions. Or look at Electric Callboy, they were fairly decent in germany and in the scene but nothing big... look at them now after the reactors from overseas found them...
I said it in the last video and I'll say it again here. The dude (viper) is literally playing video games other people made while other people watch. As far as I can tell, that's the literal foundation of his channel. There's nothing remotely wrong about that, to be clear. But, what kind of mental gymnastics is he doing to make that okay, while explicitly calling people who make react content sex offenders? I can handle a bad take, but the way he's dressed this up in actually offensive, full-throttle hyperbole crosses a few lines.
There is guy on youtube called "samianttila" he made like 3 ep's, first of them 10y ago, the average view count he got is around 800~ and music is legit. No one ever heard about him and i can bet if reaction channels where same popular back then like they are now he would be known much more. Saying Reaction channels are killing content creators its like most stupid think i ever heard about them so far. samianttila - No Man's Land
Christ bands like Jinjer and Unleash the Archers blew up the way that they did was because of react channels. I had never heard about Jinjer until I started seeing people react to Pisces and I only accidently stumbled upon Unleash the Archers and they didn't start getting bigger until people started reacting to Awakening. Awakening has 14 mill views Pisces 60 mill views Like I can't state this enough these bands got millions of views because of react channels
If your a small channel it’s a great way to gain more followers I would be stoked if someone reacted a channel means content in some form or way is worth watching :) Plus Nik your a king thanks for inspiring me to push further and harder with my guitar skills have multiple six strings and a 7 string wanting to push up to an 8 keep up the great work I watch daily :) 👑
Escimo callboy is a good example. I didn't watch any of their clips on YT, but at one point my feed was made of like every hypa hypa related video on platform (mostly reactions). And nik was the only music reaction channel that I watched, so thanks to nik for ruining my taste in music :D. It's true, that reactions are kind of lazy content, but this drama starter take every possible shit take instead of this. It's even more stupid considering EC, FiR and many other bands (or content creators) are constantly sharing reaction content based on their work
Ima just say this and completely annihilate dark viper… to the hellfire by lorna shore wouldn’t have gotten as big as quickly as it did if reactors didn’t react to it I can almost guarantee you that along with entire bands such as Slaughter to Prevail and Jinjer
A few hilarious ironies. First, Charlie fans who watched this video will probably go over to darkviper's page to check out the full original ridiculous document. So, he's getting views that he would not have gotten. Secondly, darkviper's fans came to check out Charlie's take (reason for all the dislikes). His own fans are supporting the channels who he claims are "stealing views". And, darkviper obviously knows that reactors are going to react to a video talking shit about reactors. If he doesn't want people "stealing" his content, then don't talk shit about people who you claim are "stealing" that content.
Just like all content, there is good content, and there is shit content. No problem with react channels, I do have a problem with shit tier react channels that provide NOTHING.
I remember there was Tobias Fate,he streamed League of Legends and listened to band called, Ye banished privateers. It was a small band and no one even knew them. What they did, they Thanked him for listening their music on his stream.Cause by just playing their songs on stream he helped them grow. They sold alot of albums cause of that! Basicly Nik does same stuff! There are so many cool songs i discovered cause of him! And i would never found that out on my own, cause UA-cam dosent promote shit that i like to listen to! I was introduced to Nik Him self just by searching some guitar tutorial( Understanding Scales & Modes Made EASY) and he poped off! I started to watch his content and i was like wow this is the content im really enjoying, the dude is hilarious and does serious stuff too!
Reacts work as a way of opening people up to new content
without react channels i wouldn't have found half of the bands i listen to now
Well when someone implies you're a sexual abuser when you aren't, you kind of have a duty to stomp out the accuser.
Same for me with Chelsea Grin and Lorna Shore
I’ve discovered a ton of bands because of Nik, whether it’s on his live streams or posted UA-cam videos. I wouldn’t have known about the bands otherwise, but I watch Nik’s content and discover new bands. Then I can directly support those bands. I see react channels more as exposure and possibly even advertisement rather than exploitation.
Just wanna say that Nik Nocturnals react videos are how i learned about so many awesome bands just this year
"Pisces" - Jinjer is the biggest example of 12:36
They were already creating good music, but reaction channels blew up that specific live performance and it went from less than a million views to now over 60m views.
Funny enough I've never watched Charlie's content before. Now I want to go check him out...
You should!

Stop!! Thats not how it is suppose to work, havent you learnt anything from DarkViperAU?!
He made a banger with Kmac and backyard scientist together if u're interested
"dying light's butthole physics"
thats a charlie-ism if i've ever heard one
react channels like Nik, HardCore, and RachelleReacts have introduced to me to a ton of artists I wouldn't have ever listened to otherwise. are there exploitative reactors out there? sure. but to compare them to literal sexual predators is just so extreme, inaccurate, and dismissive of the seriousness of SA. and the fact that DarkViper doubled down on this comparison on twitter makes it worse.
Nik should cover one of his songs
YESSSSSSSSSSS
Good example in my opinion is falling in reverse popular monster. Was a banger song but i know for a fact very few people besides me actually kept up with them to realize a song came out from them, some even disliked ronnie. But SOOO many people reacted to it and that song absolutely exploded thanks to it. (Was probobly gonna do decent anyways) but the reactors just made it even bigger.
more than 3/4 of the bands I now listen to, were ALL found by watching your reactions. They get my plays, from your reaction videos.
Example: Nik just introduced me to moistCr1RiKal. Now Imma go watch his vids
Reaction videos are just content building off of other content.
If that's wrong, what else is? Movie reviews? It's the same thing. If the person adds something to the discussion, it's probably worthwhile.
I think loads and loads of people like me with a very, very small following would absolutely love absolutely any more eyes on their work, (almost) no matter how
Reactions are just a great way to get more eyes on anything, I've found loads of great music through him alone (thanks :))
I love this duudez humour and sarcasm, thanks to nik I would've never known about this.... I'm defs subbing to this channel as well 🤣🤣🤣
This video is on another level of reaction content- a reaction to a reaction to an article about reaction... somebody call Leo for a inception 2
Fun fact about reaction videos and me... I have really bad primarily inattentive adhd... Music and reactions are the only type of videos I don't watch on 1.5x/+ speed
Dude nik literally got me into deathcore when he reacted to Lorna shore and I listen to them like every day now because he reacted to it
Spiritbox is my favorite band now and I would have never ever found them without reactions
So when are we going to see a Nik Nocturnal/Moist Cr1tikal collaboration?
Aye Nik I'de like to personally thank you for introducing me to both Spirit Box and Crystal lake last year, because without you or other reaction channesl I would have never known about them.
The reactors that I like are ones that put the original video in their video description. If they don't do that, I don't subscribe.
Completely agree w the points tho I’m sure that everyone feels the same appreciation and gratitude for curating content for us
What if UA-cam simply made a react tool for creators that gave both the person reacting, and the original content channel a "view" when the react version was watched? The tool would be something like the creator selects upload, then it asks what kind of video they are uploading. Here, UA-cam can provide options for React vids, Original content, and a slew of other types of videos. Heck, creating these categories in UA-cam could even help with algorithms, and with viewers searching for a specific video.
Like damn I would’ve never known about WBBWB and Eskimo Callboy if I hadn’t have watched the try not to headband vid, those bands are fucking sick!
I've discovered TONS of music, content, etc through reaction videos (thanks Nik). Another example of a similar circumstance I'd argue is old school pvp gaming montages. I discovered basically all of my current favorite bands through old WoW pvp videos 🤣
I can think of a few bands i found purely from react content. I watch headbang challenges and stuff like reactions in order to find new bands
"It's the same with bands, that have good music, good writing, and good production -- they may never get picked up."
Unsure why, but a pretty baller band from my home-state, named Curses, came to mind.
Awesome 🙌✨ this video was great content, good one Charlie👍
Off topic but I bet Charlie would like Nik’s music tbh. He listens to metal
Without reaction content on UA-cam I might not have found ice nine kills, and now I've listen to them countless time on UA-cam and amazon music so yes some people might listen to the reaction then move on but there's more than likely a good number of people who will then move on to listen to the original content creators channel/stream/ music I enjoy watching yours and Charlie's content, keep it up 👌
Lots of bands I never heard of I found out through reaction videos
I never would of known or heard about Soilwork if it wasn't for an Audiophile UA-camr recommending them based on how well Soilwork mixes their albums.
I've gotten into so many bands because of Nik
React to On the Inside from As Everirhing Unfolds its so sick
Im looking up ordinary sausage now...
There are NUMEROUS bands I found through you.
This is the same argument that let's plays produce less game sales. It's bs
(OC Creator - Posts their content) --> (Reactor - Markets/Promotes the OC) --> (UA-cam - Pays the reactor or both parties)
And as a few other people have said below.
Nik needs to collab with the Gentlemen.
Charlie reacts to Nik = Charlie's whole comment section is......." We do fun metal things here!!"
Then they take that saying and typing it in on their fave reactor's videos till all of YT says "We do fun metal things here!!"
That would be a great world to live in!!
I discovered Es**mo Callboy thanks to your reaction video.
I actually gave Lorna Shore a chance, due to reactors I watch regularly reacting to "To the Hellfire."
I see it as pretty simple:
1) I watch the original content and I want to see if other people like it to it so I'll watch reactions
2) I haven't heard of the music that has been reacted to so either I'll watch it and like it and view more of their content or dislike it and not view any more of their content
3) I already know I don't like the band or song so I'll most likely not watch either the original content or the reaction
In any of these three scenarios, the most that's possibly getting taken away from the original content creator is a single view which I most likely would never have found the original if it wasn't for the reactor's video in the first place.
If it's a band I know I will go watch their video first and then go to reaction channels. Then there's times I go to a reaction channel first is it's a band I never heard and then, go watch the music video.
joke inserts, lmao, hello I like Charlie's hair. Fucking dying LOL
Lol if it's SO bad then why do labels and bands reach out to me personally to react to new releases?
All my favorite artists/musicians/artists/creators have less than 100 subs or followers on UA-cam and other platforms. They'd all appreciate a bigger react channel or anyone featuring them in their video. We call these channels *react* but I see it as *support* and I feel like like the guy that called out reaction channels is going to do the opposite of what he was intending and react channels are going to get a boost after all this.
Sorry for my punctuation. Was so angry, my cellphone keypad couldn't keep up with my furious fast typing.
Drycell should have been what Linkin Park became.
I don't know why, but it's kinda surprising that you even know Charlie even though he's like one of the biggest people on UA-cam
Honestly without reactions I wouldn't find smaller bands like katahdin or deadlights or whatever else. Hours of listening time. Reactors have a place
you should react to DarkViperAU's response to charlie's video, he clarifies a lot of things like the graphs.
has nik actual reacted to Charlies songs
I said it in the last video and I'll say it again here. The dude (viper) is literally playing video games other people made while other people watch. As far as I can tell, that's the literal foundation of his channel. There's nothing remotely wrong about that, to be clear. But, what kind of mental gymnastics is he doing to make that okay, while explicitly calling people who make react content sex offenders? I can handle a bad take, but the way he's dressed this up in actually offensive, full-throttle hyperbole crosses a few lines.
I've discovered great music through reactor videos.
Awakening has 14 mill views
Pisces 60 mill views
Like I can't state this enough these bands got millions of views because of react channels
If your a small channel it’s a great way to gain more followers I would be stoked if someone reacted a channel means content in some form or way is worth watching :)
Plus Nik your a king thanks for inspiring me to push further and harder with my guitar skills have multiple six strings and a 7 string wanting to push up to an 8 keep up the great work I watch daily :) 👑
4 views 8 likes sounds about right
This is kinda meta. Nik Reacting to video about reaction.
But youtube is like: Nah m8 go watch some dude who does unrelated stuff to you or fkin DIY content that i have no interest in it!
Metal where???
