I was maxed level and didn’t know about the sword of light could hurt him badly and he was a goddam monster but he’s still easy compared to the superbosses in the definitive edtion
@@playerver1 I actually did not manage to beat the last last dragon. It was too much but I get it. It is somewhat of a price for people who actually grinded.
Im also on the "I never used the sword of light" on Calasmos team... but my funny story is that after he wrecked me on my first try, I grinded and tried to see what I was missing on items and stuff I went back prepared as hell, set up a good strategy, and put up the arguably best, hardest, most entertaining end boss battle ever... then I was so hooked on the game that I watched some playthroughs, saw one of the Calasmos fight and the guy straight up uses the Sword of Light on the first turn breaking his shield and my jaw dropped xD felt like an idiot... but a really successful one!
I also had trouble with the final-final boss in DQuest, but then I found out that you had to "use" the Sword as an item to weaken the boss and make the fight 2x easier.
I was lv99 and had the best weapons but still the big deformed Cell beat me. This was the first DQ11 boss that actually posed a challenge, which shocked me since everything beforehand were all pushovers. Grinded for str seeds and pep pops for that battle and, 20hrs after my first try, managed to beat it. Without using the sword.
I just grinded items that healed Max mp and spamed magic burst after using the sword to weaken him. It was not easy but a good challenge to say the least.
I died once to him and realized what I needed to do. Even if you don't use the sword as an item, use Hendrik purely for defense. Spam Forebearance to keep Calasmos focused on attacking him. Even his multi hit attacks will only hit him. He dies, use Serena or Rab to Kazing him back to 100% health and get Forbearance back up. Easiest way to keep all your characters relatively healthy during the battle.
Low key it seems like he is not that great at the games but the fact that despite that he still loves them so much to base his channel around that makes me kind of admire him
@@mornemauvais5873 Totally agree. FF8 from this video the last boss is laughably easy if you just stock up 99 of all the best spells across your team. It doesn't even take but a couple hours. He isn't very good at the games, and I think he actively tries to not grind to the point that he avoids combat that is really just normal encounters.
I've beaten Izanami-no-Okami every time I've played Persona 4, and I am a guy who gave up on some RPGs for being too hard. There is a moment during Izanami's fight that is scripted. For Dragon Quest XI, I've raised my team to level 97 and Calasmos destroyed me. Turns out you have to use the Supreme Sword of Light as an ITEM. This drastically lowers his stats and make the game beatable.
I just beat him up, I had done everything in the game though but definitely didn't need the sword for the last fight and he was definitely not challenging without using the sword
The reason that jrpgs and rpgs in general grip me in their grasp is because of their story. I can't stop a game partway unless the story failed me. Even when a boss is bs and i have other games, I have to see the story through in a good game!
Please do more of these videos! I love your lists and opinions on games. Like a ProJared style really works for you. I love your RPG content bc it’s so niche for what I’m into, but I’d also love to hear your take on other genres too!
all the disgaeas are the same, though. never grind normally, you need to cheat the system and make one super character. it's way quicker and way easier than just endlessly grinding your army. literally the whole point of disgaea is to cheat. you're a demon, you're supposed to cheat. if you change your strategy a little, i think you'll beat every disgaea that you got to the boss and stopped. the postgame superboss is another thing altogether, but the main storyline you should be able to spend a couple hours and then squish him like a bug with a single character. check out some faqs on this, including some great speedruns out there that show how to beat the whole game in a couple hours, or even the whole postgame. it's pretty insane once you get the hang of it.
@@Asakk plus a few jaunts through the Item World to power up your weapons & armor as well as your characters....and some decent manipulation of the Senate helps as well of course lol
Oh boy, Safer Sephiroth beat me real bad. I only had Hi-potions, which suck because my characters have over 4,000+ hp and they only heal for 500, none of my characters had any reliable cure magic, Safer Sephiroth's Super Nova always frogified my team and i didn't have any items to reverse it or any teammates who could use Heal Magic because they were always confused by Super Nova!
The sad thing with Calasmos was that going into the fight, I knew I was supposed to use the Sword of Light to make the battle easier, but here's the thing. I thought when people said to 'use' the Sword of Light, they just meant I needed to have it equipped and have it be the first weapon I attack him with. I didn't realize I was supposed to go to the item menu and select it first. (Seriously, he goes from the toughest boss to arguably the easiest after you do that)
for me the final boss i never beat is from Saga Frontier 2 the DAMN EGG lol, oh and i forgot about final fantasy 3... the final dungeon without a save point and got beaten by the final boss and never tried again, i think that is all for all the rpg'si played so far
Surprised you found Ultimecia so hard, I got to level 100 too for that fight but must've had better GF Junctioned? Anyway, while she wasn't easy she certainly wasn't that difficult and I beat her after only a few attempts.
This game took alot off patience because of the junction system. I'm pretty sure you've seen a theme with Erick that patience is something he lacks. So for him there will always be bosses that seem harder because of him personally and not necessarily the game itself. That's the reason we see so many rage videos from him.
Firstly, level grinding is not a solution in this game. In fact, many strategies discourage leveling up until certain abilities become available. Getting the best spells and junctioning them properly is key (which I doubt Erick bothered to do). Ultimecia is far from the hardest end boss, but charging in at her unprepared will eat you alive.
I beat her on my third (and last, never going through that again) try. But let me tell you, that fight drags on and on for soooo long that I was just praying for it to end. 😂She has that attack which brings all your party members to 1 point of health and it's just the most tense fight ever.
I remember Enchanted Arms' final boss being the one I never managed to beat. I was still little back then so I suppose something in my party composition was not right but man , I leveled up A LOT using the Casino trick (or whatever It was) and I felt like my main character and golems were pretty strong but then I kept being annihilated by the first and (sometimes) second phase of the final fight. Never managed to beat it again but from what I've gathered Golems were not as strong as the main characters...and I never used them much cause I thought the Golems were cooler and stronger ahah. FF8 though didn't give me much trouble if I remember correctly...surely hard yes but first try nonetheless , I guess the Junction system traumatized my brain so much back then that I eventually got good at it .....but on the other hand I never managed to beat Ultima Weapon (neither of the two)
I loved Enchanted Arms but never beat it either. Gotta go back to it at some point. It is dumb that you can get all those enemies as allies but the human characters are the only ones worth using.
Advice for Calasmos: Use the sword of light as an item and it severely weakens him. Also, keep Serena and Hendrik in alternate parties with mp recovery items and alternate Kerplunk. The definitive edition added a couple more superbosses. Oddly, I beat them both on the first go, while losing 4 times to Calasmos.
For FFVIII at least you reached the final boss. I got my team's ass kicked in the fight with Adel, who was sucking away Rinoa's HP. It's still my favorite JRPG (and my very first), but I beat it only with a gamesharked save with 9999HP and power. Only some time later ( after reaching that boss twice, imagine, twice!!! And got stuck with some other bosses 3 times, so had to restart it from 0 3 times), I learnt that one of the best ways it to get GF skills which were giving you STR and MAG points with each Level Ups. But I had no internet back then too and was repeating the same mistake, getting to level 100 just at the first half of the game. So if you're on 100, you won't get any more +1 points to your strength or any similar skills which are tied to leveling up. P.S. Still waiting for the modders to mod horribly blurry backgrounds of Remaster, so can finally try to play it one last "final" time :) p.s.s. Really love your channel man, and most of your videos. Good luck with your videos.
Blue Dragon was easy to cheese after a point. You get this ability to automatically defeat weaker enemies on the world map from one of the classes, and then you can find an area where 3-pointers spawn, use the skill, and just stand still while they respawn and run right into you. It doesn't take very long and pretty soon you have all the abilities necessary to make OP physical fighters who can hit all enemies at once and OP spellcasters who can take care of all the stuff resistant to physical and/or with elemental weaknesses to exploit. The only thing you *might* have trouble with is the boss fight in the DLC. The one with 5 bosses at once. Mostly because they have a handful of abilities that can wreck even maxed-out characters if they happen in the right order. Basically an RNG thing, so it might not even come up for most people. It took me 2 tries because of that, and was the only fight I needed 2 tries on.
This isn’t really “the” final boss of the game, but I’m stuck on the superboss in the very last side quest of Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology (the only RPG I’ve wanted to 100% complete, due to how it’s structured). I’ve had the game for over a year now, luckily I’ve beat the main story, but I CANNOT beat this boss. I want to get 100% and move onto NG+, but I can’t figure out how to beat this guy, having tried literally everything I could think of already.
I honestly didn't think Calasmos was that bad. I beat him on the 1st try, but I do admit I did grind a bit on the late game areas and was pretty prepared just in case.
Lesson to be learned : treat all final bosses as something super hard, then grinds like madlads before final dungeon. And FF VIII? I got all characters to lv 100. 1st time i got lucky that I got Squal and Rinoa as last members standing. With 1 HP left I was lucky that Rinoa decided to spam Invincible Moon so I can spam Renzokuken with Squall until the boss died. The subsequent battles I let members die until at least I got Squall (and if possible Zell and someone equpped with Eden), use Aura and Hero/Holy War on him then spam Renzokuken. I also tried similar tactics with Selphie, it's just that it takes time to search for The End multiple times.
Dude ff8 is like Chrono Cross, once you understand the mechanics you crush it. First, make sure you’ve got squall’s ultimate weapon, & then cast “aura” on him or “holy war” on your whole party. This will drastically increase the chance of your character(s) getting an ultimate attack, even at high health. Then all you have to do is refresh the attack button on squalls turn and keep spamming renzokuken. This attack alone deals tens of thousands of HP, and has a 25% chance to unleash squall’s ultimate finishing move “lionheart” which will hit approx 14 times for 9999 doing ~1,350,000 damage total. Rinse and repeat 2-3 times and you’re good. If you really have that much trouble just let everybody but you’re healer and squall die and “be absorbed into time”, sure you can’t revive them anymore but you weren’t using them anyway, squall is incredibly overpowered and his lionheart move is arguably several times stronger than it ought to be lol
Ok buds calm your tits, It's a recommendation. Some of us have beaten bosses HE has not beaten yet and some of US have already beaten. By providing the title, those of us who've beaten the bosses could just skip the parts where we could possibly be spoiled. I like watching Erik's videos even though I have already achieved some of his accomplishments. And a good day to you. 🇨🇦
It's not that bad ... He's showing the game , before naming the final boss . You can skip it before he starts talking about it . I did that to Persona 4 . Granted , you'll probably catch glimpses of it , I guess that's unavoidable , but other online lists tend to name the boss instantly . Of course , specifying the games beforehand is definitely better , but what I had to work with in this video could have been worse
Hey Erick, great list! I completely agree about the difficulty disparity between regular enemies and bosses in Blue Dragon. I remember getting completely destroyed by one of the bosses around the halfway point when I had thought I was completely overleveled for that encounter, so I sympathize with you there. Whether this will be helpful is relative to whether you ever plan on going back to it, but I recall there being a passive grinding method in Blue Dragon where you learn a spell that let you just run around dungeons killing enemies and vacuuming up job points without needing to fight anything to max out all of your shadows in around an hour. I don't think you could gain experience that way, but that's what I did to power up my party back then. For me, the JRPG final boss that I had rage quit on consistently for nearly 20 years was Zeromus from Final Fantasy 4. I only just finished that game for the first time earlier this year after playing all the way through to the end and getting annihilated by Zeromus in every iteration that had ever been released for it. Thank goodness developers don't make bosses like that anymore!
Ultimecia absolutely slaughtered me on my first playthrough because I didn't understand the junction system. A few years later, after a friend explained it and I got some tips online I played again, focusing on junctions. With that build I mopped the floor with that bitch. I highly recommend trying the game again and really learning that junction system. On a side note, the Velius fight in FF Tactics is harder than most final bosses and suffers from several of your pet-peeves, including a full restart if you made mistakes saving. FUCK THAT GUY.
In the fight against Calasmos in Dragon Quest 11, you're supposed to use the Sword of Light to weaken him. U don't have to equipped it. Just go to the item selection of any character that carries it and use that.
FF8 grinding is way easy but the guardian force junction is used to make your characters better because when they level, you get to unlock parameters to make your characters way better plus being able to tuen minsters into cards plus other stuff that way you can survive everything Erick.
Ultimecia? Really? o.o I mean... the most optimal way to min/max in FFVIII is to just run from every non-boss battle until you have every single GF (so you can equip GF's for max stat gains for as many levels as possible) and unlike trying to do the same in FFVI, it's extremely easy in FFVIII.
@@si-level No I didn't... it's intuitive that the GFs give permanent stat boosts at level up, therefore it would be optimal to level up after having all of them. FFVI was the same way (and to this day that's my biggest gripe with it, as a LLG is really hard there and it's impossible to get perfect stats anyway). I didn't do this on my first playthrough because it's no fun running from everything - I only brought it up to point out that the bosses scale to your level even if you don't level up at all, so a LLG is really easy unlike FFVI. The game teaches you the junction system before the Ifrit cave. I was obsessed with the card game and drawing magic. When you get Aura your first thought is "what does that do?" so you use it. I don't even think I had the internet when I played through FFVIII, as we didn't get dial-up until 2001-2003.
The final boss should be a test of all the skills and strategies you've mastered, NOT a forced grind up 10-20 more levels just to survive the first round. Amazing how many otherwise great games manage to miss this simple fact. Looking at you, Pokemon. Zophar from Lunar 2 meets a lot of these criteria. He's got 2 forms, the first is easy while the second is unstoppable and at the other end of a ton of dialogue. Once you're in his castle you can't leave, there are no recovery points, and you need to keep as many MP recovery items with you as possible since once of his favorite attacks is draining 1 person's MP to zero. One of his other favorites is an attack that does 7000+ in a game with a 3 digit HP cap. His head and his four hands all get their own turns. As a result, I'll never beat him. Apparently he's not even the final boss but he's certainly presented like one.
@@oct91988 True, all of Lunar 2 seemed to be a big difficulty upgrade from the first game. The four elemental fiends were quite dangerous, but only Zophar seemed unfair to me.
@@WhiteFangofWar I remember the blue fiend when i first saw it do the heal when i was a kid i was like reset and stop for a while. i never knew it was a once thing and i thought all my damage was effectively nullified
@@WhiteFangofWar honestly a lot of rpgs don't require you to grind and strategies can carry you through. If you think you mastered skill and strategies and reach the final boss thinking you need to grind levels you might have just winged it. you don't really see people use much strategy (people being underlevel beating a boss you needed to grind heavy for), its always just if you lose you just need more levels (then a quick way to call it a grindy game). leveling up just lowers the need to actually have skill.
Ultimecia has some potential to wipe your party regardless. Though FF8 is full of cheese, you can use recov med rf and call shop to make mega potions from tents to sell for profit and use med lv up to level remedy all the way up to holy war, makes your party invincible. You'd have a hard time losing with that.
I know the vid's a while ago but the real JRPG fan at home my brother has beaten Colasmos, with a bit of help from me especially not knowing he was able to do one thing at the start Colasmos' dark aura makes him pretty much impossible to kill since it's actually boosting his defence. you'll have pretty much everything in the game by the time you've grinded enough for Colasmos, so you'll definitely have the sword of light, seems counter intuitive but as soon as you can have the hero throw the sword of light at the boss, it gets rid of his aura and takes him from 100% to... 99% power, he takes much more damage after that though, then focus on his arms and he'll lose turns and attacks once you've beaten those, he will try to revive his arms though. he does have a few more asspulls as the fight goes on though, like an ability to stop time except for one character he only has that when he's down to a third of his health or so though. must of taken my brother nearly an hour just on the successful try on Colasmos alone
Yeah he was laughably underleveled. I honestly think Erik thinks doing the side content of the game is "grinding", and fighting any enemy that is optional is "grinding". I don't even know how he got to the end of disgea 4 at level 70, that's insanely low level for the end of that game.
I'm surprised you didn't include the final boss of Star Ocean: The Second Story. If his limiter is turned off, he is pretty much harder than impossible to beat even if you max your party levels to 255.
Honestly, the RPG boss I came closest to giving up on is Galdera in Octopath Traveller. Having to re-fight the eight other bosses every time you lose was a pain in the ass, not because they were hard but because they took like, 5 minutes each or there abouts. And then the boss itself is real tanky with some heavy hitting attacks. But the worst thing was that it has a second phase. The second phse isn't necessarily harder, it just has a different focus, relying more on it's physical stats. The problem is, you have to split your team into 2 partys, 4 characters for one phase and the rest for the other. And since the boss is super hard, they all need to be pulling their weight, so none of them better be under levelled or you'll be in for a bad time. The actual fight is still really fun though, and it has an amazing theme. The problem is that absolutely nothing else in the game even comes close to preparing you for this at all.
You never beat FFVIII?? It's worth it... It's in my Top 5 JRPG endings. So satisfying. But although I liked the junction system, I too hate systems where the enemies level with you. It defeats the purpose of leveling up, and when the loot scales too, it makes it impossible to find rare, powerful items beyond your level, which normally should be possible and so satisfying to compensate for the difficulty.
Speaking of tough bosses.... There was one in FFX-2 that destroyed me repeatedly. I don't think it was even the end boss, but maybe close to it. I blame the story for not motivating me enough to continue, but honestly it disturbs me how many games I never finished... probably because life got too hectic.
Can someone please put time stamps with every game showcased here? I absolutely love the final bosses, but I fear I haven't played enough hard RPGs to know most of the ones that appear here, and maybe Erick consider it as a small spoiler, but for me, these are the ones it hurts me the most when I spoil them. I only expect Disgaea 4 and Tales of Hearts R since Erick stated they beated the crap out of him before, and I haven't played any of those.
Lol, FF8 is not about being max Level but posessing the ultimate spells and GF abilities. Ultimecia was a walk in the park with the bunch of hero potions i crafted. Just blew her up with Squalls and Irvines Ultis while being immortal all the time
For the final boss of DQ11 use the sword to break his shield. I forced through without it, but the sword makes it so easy. You don't have to equip it, just use it as an item and he loses that black aura. As for disgaea, lol, don't get to the boss at 50 or 70. Get there in the 100s of not 1000s :)
I beat calasmos there is a trick to beating him first you need the real sword of light to even stand a chance use it as a item and you need the twins on your team with there magic as high as possible and there best equipment I recommend going through all the post game content to get everyone as strong as possible make sure you stock yagdrisil leaves and more restoring items focus on colasmos arms first and keep your health topped up and use buffs as if you where playing a mega ten game and prepare to renew them when he dispels them powered up explosions work really well hear fighting him reminds me of lavos from chrono trigger Veronica has a spell that when used uses up all her remaining magic power but does extreme damage if you use it over and over you destroy him easily just keep using restoratives on her and spam this combined with the hero’s attacks and prepare to heal or revive anyone who falls hustle is an invaluable skill to have during this fight you can also get a superior sword of light but you still need to use the original sword as an item there is also a great sword of light that you have to use two handed you can also the luminaries armor and shield which has the best defense in the game
FF8 you just need a full 99 stack of aura triple and curaga. Have rinoa aura squall to limit break constantly and all three characters tripled up to curaga everyone when it gets to hells judgment. Even when squall is low on HP and in aura switch between characters till the high percentage of his limit break shows up. Healing and defense for the other 2 and you should be fine. It is tricky but once you get it you get it and the ending is awesome
one final boss recently that gave me a lot of trouble was the phantom brave final boss, It was wiping out my characters left and right, I managed to beat them eventually though with some careful strategy and a bit of luck.
I remember that boss and i remember him 1 shotting my characters but i don't remember him being difficult. I think i use the kill him before he kills you thing and something else that made him a non threat because AI is dumb.
I hope you will be able to find Persona 4 Golden so you can play through it in order to experience the extra stuff that is in it unlike the vanilla version of Persona 4
I got stuck on the boss in DQXI because I forgot to equip/use the required 1 handed sword lmao (I was using a 2 handed swords build). I facepalmed so hard when I realized.
It is safe to say for any persona and some smt series, magic is good for early half game (on side note, make sure your mc got at all 4 dyne level spell) , melee for the other half, have at least 1 main healer and 1 other for backup healer (plus if you could make it your buff debuff guy), and remember the rule of thumb for attack for persona boss: hassou tobi, debilitate, and power charge
Did you also notice he didn't upgrade his personas? I noticed Erick doesn't like to take too much time on his games so it gets naturally harder for him. That's why so many are puzzled by this list.
@@RPGeenius i think i know where eric problem: he got the press turn system trap, it is when smt player knew how the press turn but they didnt realize the subtle game rule, basically he thought that due to press turn you have to utilize every weakness that the enemy had, not knowingly that nearly every boss had elemental shield, plus the unwritten rule in many smt series, treat your mp like gold, seriously mp in this game is ultra expensive in any stage of game, and mp recovery item is basically non exist But then again if it is the 2 last boss of nocturne i kinda understand, but izanami? As long you got any persona from max social link you are pretty much can beat her
I beat all of the SMT games, but I didn't do Strange Journey on the harder difficulties because it burned me out. Plus Mem Aleph is considered one of the hardest bosses in the franchise I've heard. I feel like SMT is always hard in the beginning and then gets pretty fair until the final boss which you need to very prepared for.
@@GalanOfTruth the thing that make SMT SJ hard is because the fusion mechanics doesn't make any sense. Well you can search for password demon if you want to defeat the game
FF8's final boss is a pushover. Just get a good stock of Aura on everybody, use Squall/Irvine/Selphie. Have Selphie spam Full Cure, while Squall and Irvine pound it to death with multihit limits. You only need like 4-5 turns to kill her, because each multi-hit limit is capable of blowing through that form's HP with 1 or 2 limits. She barely even gets a turn. *ALTERNATIVELY* you could have someone (not Selphie!) summon Eden and then try for "The End" on Selphie's limit (since Eden has a longass animation where the boss can't attack you, got plenty of time to try for it!). This works on the final boss, and will in fact end the fight. Entirely.
@Firion Al'Hade the in game clock is a non issue you can get infinite time easily. the best way to grind stats is to do early missions and start over and the final boss (+) is quite easy as you can become immune to damage.
I want to try out Generation Chaos if only because I find it adorable that you can fight cute cats as they dramatically yell "Your attacks are nothing!"
Arc the lad twilight spirits. Stick to the extreme sides and take out the eyeballs to uncloud him. Attacks are mainly darkness based. Longest range characters properly equipped can be barely out of eyeballs ranged while still able to attack. If you stick to extreme sides. Big eyeball with the cloud doesnt shoot laser down the midlane. Arc the lad 2. Boss is motionless and you can place your guys out of range on his attacks. Bartender chick ( i think name is shana, I could be wrong ) gets resurrection and can wear something that restores mp each turn. It took forever for me. FF8 Eden and Squall's lionheart. There is also Tonberry for nerfing their level. Can also devour for stats. Disgaea 4..all about item world and reincarnations and all that.
Well there's a way to defeat Nemo in Disgaea 4, just do a massive chain attack with your entire party to kill him in one turn since the longer the attack chain, the lower his defenses which will eventually cause it to go to zero and let him be killable.
I’m a little too late to comment here, but since I’ve just noticed for the third time that I won’t beat FF8 I thought that this was an interesting thing to share: when I was a kid I played FF8 for the first time on the PS1. English isn’t my first language and mine was really terrible back then, so it took me forever to play the game. I ended up stuck right after I got the Ragnarok, because the 4th disk had an issue and my PS1 couldn’t read it. Whatever. In 2010 I bought a PS3 and decided to buy FF8 again as a PSOne Classic. Literally right after I got the Ragnarok and reached Eshtar again I had a freak accident with a power outage and my PS3’s HDD was damaged beyond repair. Since I wasn’t used to back up save files I lost my progress and gave up on playing again. Fast forward to 2020… I got a second hand PSP and decided to ONCE AGAIN play FF8. Everything was going smoothly until this March, when I reached the Ragnarok part. In March I was admitted to an hospital because I got COVID-19. Spent a whole month there. After being discharged from the hospital I was transferred to my parent’s home in another town, so I could have better support on my recovery. I spent the next few weeks progressively getting better until two weeks ago, when I remembered that I’ve never actually finished FF8 and started to look for my PSP… Only to find out that it is nowhere to be found. I mean, maybe the universe is trying to tell me something, who knows?
I'm surprised you said DQ XI was hard. I was disappointed with how easy it was. Until Calasmos, I never felt like I could lose against anyone. I beat that game in it's entirety about 5 times and died once to Calasmos. Now DQ VIII(PS2), my all time favorite JRPG, was a real challenge. Still not impossible though. Every boss in that game can and will kill you the second you fuck up. I still get chills thinkin about the Lord of Dracovians in the post game.
@@worax Bruh. That fight was a test of patience, strategy, and endurance. Given how tough he is and being a two phase boss, you feel like they made you fight him way too early. You have to grind a bit.
@@GeoGyf You mean the different variations of the Lord of Dracovians? Yeah I 100% complete the game ONCE in high school. Never again did I manage to get past the 4th one.
wait, what? Disgaea final bosses are usually a joke due to how easy it is to power level. I usually try and make them harder after I've accidentally grinded too much. Just make sure you've been using the dark assembly as well and getting more weapons in the shop. I accidentally was way too strong for Nemo normally, so I raised his level to max with the dark assembly and still puddlestomped his ass. Also, Ultimecia is super easy with one tactic: Junction attack power and spam aura to spam limit breaks.
I managed to beat kingdom hearts dream drop distance on the 3DS a full year after I got the game. The main reason was because the second to final boss is a lot tougher than the final boss. Young Xehanort is really tough if you’re underleveled
Not to mention if you fail to complete the touchscreen prompt in the allotted time, he turns back time to an earlier point in the fight. It took me two weeks to make it to that fight and after one too many losses, I didn’t play the game again for a whole year
Just so you know when get a bad ending in atelier games, you can play new game plus which lets you keep money, armor, and weapons so you can focus on exploring and leveling the second time.
Man, I started the video thinking about how much of a soul sucking shit show Ultimecia was, and you picked her too lol. I remember it so clearly because I fought her for an hour and a half, died, and calmly removed the disc, put it in the case, and packed up my PS1 and sold it all at a local game store haha. I too can’t explain my love for the game. The battle system is complete shit, and like you I never understood it. Thanks for the trip down nightmare lane. It was nice to hear someone else had been traumatized by that boss haha.
Good video! I had this experience with Arc the Lad 2 as well. A slog of a final dungeon and a frustrating final boss. Never beat it. On Final Fantasy 8, I found that the secret lay in drawing enough of the most powerful spell and junctioning them to the right attributes. Simply leveling was not enough.
I've been playing Bravely Default II the last month or so, and I think one of the best quality of life improvements in that game is straight up letting you know when you're approaching a point of no return. I appreciated that so much. Agreed on Ultimecia as well. While I honestly enjoy the Junction system of FFVIII (once I finally understood it lol), Ultimecia is straight up impossible. I got to a point where I could get to her final form consistently, but her constant spamming of Apocalyspe and and Ultima always wiped my party away.
I actually beat Blue Dragon the only reason why i'm mentioning it because you usually play these obscure games that either no one has heard of or are extremely old so I was surprised to have actually played and beaten a game on your list even though it was years ago when I did it.
It's my opinion that Erick beat Dragon Quest 11 even if he didn't beat the optional super boss in the post game. I feel the same way about my experience with Octopath Traveler having done all eight characters chapters, and seeing the credits roll. There is an optional post game including a gauntlet of super bosses that I never even tried. I still think I beat the game. Right?
You did use the sword to remove his barrier right? I mean all dragon quest final bosses have a gimmick and as long as you read the item descriptions and a few characters dialogue you find out the sword of light and the super sword of light can negate his barrier allowing you to do full damage to him I mean, I realised in the first 5 turns that his damage output was too high and his damage threshold was too high and remembered someone talking about how the sword of light can cut through the vail of darkness I mean I think you can still beat him with his barrier if you're a masochist but getting the super sword of light and removing his barrier makes it easy then again I was grousy over leveled do to my neratic dq grinding remembering how anything can come our of left field at any moment so who am I to judge.
lol i just beat blue dragon. Overgrinded to lvl 70 to beat the optional superbosses. Finished the final boss shown here via basic attack and fire spell for the mages. He only had 1 turn. You don't look underleveled here so idk.
The only problem I personally had with Persona 4 final boss was that GODDAMN INSTAKILL MOVE! WASTED 1 HOUR TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO SURVIVE THAT BULLSHIT!!
Hahaha that ff8. I'm quite lucky that i didn't grind so much. But the way they random your party when fighting ultimecia makes me panic a bit because level different and i only junction 3 people. Luckily after squall get picked as party i just spam renzokuken and hope ultimecia didn't kill him XD. Truly the best final boss clutch moment. How about top clutch moment in final boss for your next video erick
I remember my first FE. Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon for Nintendo DS. It was a nightmare try to beat the final boss with only three strong units, the rest were backup units, really, impossible. However, I had to delete my file and restart the game
Clicked it because of Calasmos. And yeah that Guy really gave me a headache but I managed to beat it with only Hendrick alive in my party. Also NOTE: you don't have to worry about your party to stay alive so they can get experience in this one since Calasmos doesn't drop experience not even 1.
I went through DQ11 without any problems at all. Once I entered the post-game I found an easy grinding method to get all the way up to lvl 99, got the true sword of light and proceeded to wipe the floor with the boss's ass. With the right setup several of your characters can do frankly ludicrous amounts of damage per turn meaning that his HP drops like a rock allowing you to finish him in under 10 mins. You still need to craft the highest tier weapons and armor but he's definitely beatable. As for Ultimecia (FF8), I agree that she's a completely aggravating bitch with her 4 forms. From memory I can tell you that the way I beat her ass was to stock up on as many aura stones and pulse ammo as possible before the fight, go in with Quistis, Squall and Irvine loaded with all the GF's then allow Ultimecia to kill off whoever you don't need till you get the party you want then just Limit Break her to death. GF's take too long to cast, even Eden if you managed to get it, and frankly those three have Limit breaks that can do far more damage than anything save Eden. Squall has Renzokuken with a possible Lionheart, Irvine wrecks shit with Pulse Ammo and Quistis has her final Blue Magic which breaks the 9999 damage Limit. Keep spamming them and she'll die with a whimper. It's basically a brute force option but it works and it got me the end credits.
Fun fact, i played each of the top 3 games of your top for the first time this year, in a row ^^ I kinda disagree on the difficulty of their final boss though, especially on Destroy which i thought was underwhelmingly easy. Pretty proud to say i beat each of these 3 games superbosses, something i usually either don't have the skill or the patience for! DQXI easily had the hardest one, with several unfair advantages (a very high crit rate on aoe spells being one of the worst part)s, FF8's was overall pretty easy since i managed to keep a consistant rythm and control of the fight, and Blue Dragon's two superbosses are a bit easier than other superbosses since while they hit really hard, they don't have much HP which means you can use the good'ol strategy of hitting them really hard before they can hit you much harder x)
last time I killed Ultimecia, I fight her with Rinoa only on her last form: Rinoa was the last survivor, and has Arnica (the healing competence, don't know it's name in english) so every time she make her 1 HP attack => Arnica and when she did her other attack => Rinoa attack (with a very, VERY low level of ATK) => never ending battle, but in the end I WON! And Rinoa killed herself :p (Yes, I prefer the story as Rinoa == Ultimecia :p)
Beating Ultimecia isn't that difficult. You just need Rinoa's Invincible moon, don't learn any other limit Angelo move for her. (just keep the cursor pointed at moves he's already learned to avoid learning a new one) Keep Aura status up and spam limit breaks With Squall and Zell also using limits, you'll do the most damage possible in the least amount of time and be untouchable for half the battle. You can achieve the same thing using Hero and Holy War items, heck, with those, you can keep yourself invulnerable for the entire fight if you time your item usage right.... but that makes it TOO easy.
DQ11 you need to use the super sword of light at as item and you will knock Calasmos stats down by half! Makes it a manageable battle. I did grind up to 95 or so for the main hero.
Dude go back to DQ 11 and use the Sword of Light as an item on the final boss, you will destroy him.
Did not even know that is possible but still beat him. It is very doable without it as well. But level
@@nerdzone I have grinded quite a bit and have all the most powerful armor and weapons And I still can’t beat that freakin monster
@@playerver1 I have but I still can't get the accolade for under fifty turns. I don't want to cheese it with Magic Bursts
In Final Fantasy 8 I grinded to level 99 not knowing enemy scaling was a thing and ended up screwing myself by getting trapped in Ultimecia's castle 😅
You have it right, "using" the sword made it completely doable
Veronica is god in the fight against calasmos.
The "post game" in DQXI is actually the 3rd act of the game and isn't really optional.
Weird, for playing that many rpgs along the years, yet still you fall for the oldest tricks in the book
Because the story dives you in so deep it makes you forget about the tricks.
What is it?
I just beat him up, I had done everything in the game though but definitely didn't need the sword for the last fight and he was definitely not challenging without using the sword
i defeated calasmos without the sword of light. i didnt even know you can use it.
I beat izanagi no okami first try and I had lower level personas than he did.
Mem Aleph is the one boss that comes to mind for me. She made certain I would never finish Strange Journey.
Same here. Just watched the endings on youtube
The reason that jrpgs and rpgs in general grip me in their grasp is because of their story. I can't stop a game partway unless the story failed me. Even when a boss is bs and i have other games, I have to see the story through in a good game!

all the disgaeas are the same, though. never grind normally, you need to cheat the system and make one super character. it's way quicker and way easier than just endlessly grinding your army. literally the whole point of disgaea is to cheat. you're a demon, you're supposed to cheat. if you change your strategy a little, i think you'll beat every disgaea that you got to the boss and stopped. the postgame superboss is another thing altogether, but the main storyline you should be able to spend a couple hours and then squish him like a bug with a single character. check out some faqs on this, including some great speedruns out there that show how to beat the whole game in a couple hours, or even the whole postgame. it's pretty insane once you get the hang of it.
True, there is always a level at the end where you can abuse by putting exp X2 blocks or whatever on enemies and you'll be level 500 in no times
@@Asakk plus a few jaunts through the Item World to power up your weapons & armor as well as your characters....and some decent manipulation of the Senate helps as well of course lol
@@newageBoundhippie Yeah so i don't understand how he couldn't beat the final boss, only the postgame is difficult in Disgaea
You really don't need to abuse the system to through the storyline though.
not mandatory but faster than normal-style grinding by a fair margin
Oh boy, Safer Sephiroth beat me real bad. I only had Hi-potions, which suck because my characters have over 4,000+ hp and they only heal for 500, none of my characters had any reliable cure magic, Safer Sephiroth's Super Nova always frogified my team and i didn't have any items to reverse it or any teammates who could use Heal Magic because they were always confused by Super Nova!
Just because you don't understand the junction system in ff8 doesn't mean its "ass". It's really quite simple and my favourite in the series.
Smart opinion
In dragon quest 11 your whole party could be at level 99 and you’ll still get destroyed without the sword light
Honestly, FF8 was a walk in the park man, surprised it made your #1. Omega Weapon can be tough but that's pretty much it.
You are my hero i struggled with substance abuse but you brought me to the world of jrpgs. You give me hope thank you for your inspiration
(Seriously, he goes from the toughest boss to arguably the easiest after you do that)
I feel Erick's struggle for the games he didn't finish because there were other games he wanted to play. That's the story of my life. lol
for me the final boss i never beat is from Saga Frontier 2 the DAMN EGG lol, oh and i forgot about final fantasy 3... the final dungeon without a save point and got beaten by the final boss and never tried again, i think that is all for all the rpg'si played so far
@@stevenmorton2059 exactly! When I heard him say he grinded to get to 100 fast as possible I thought " big mistake".
@@RPGeenius I remember that I spent time getting some of the Ultimate weapons beforehand too which really helped
I always have 2 save files in rpgs
P.S. Still waiting for the modders to mod horribly blurry backgrounds of Remaster, so can finally try to play it one last "final" time :)
Most ppl didn’t know you could use the sword of light as a item and destroy his shell

I feel you on DQXI. That true ending pissed me off with that grind fest.
You're supposed to use the Sword of Light to weaken him.
Ff8 hilarious!
Blue dragon though surprised me, i remember doing a second play-through for platinum and it took hardly anytime at all
Ultimecia absolutely slaughtered me on my first playthrough because I didn't understand the junction system.
I have been stuck on the final boss for Cold Steel 2. I got to the final boss around March this year and still have yet to beat that game.
In the fight against Calasmos in Dragon Quest 11, you're supposed to use the Sword of Light to weaken him. U don't have to equipped it. Just go to the item selection of any character that carries it and use that.
Top 10 reasons Erick Landon RPG is a Final Boss that will beat the CRAP out of YOU!
Always make two save files in jrpg games.
FF8 grinding is way easy but the guardian force junction is used to make your characters better because when they level, you get to unlock parameters to make your characters way better plus being able to tuen minsters into cards plus other stuff that way you can survive everything Erick.
Who’s gon’ tell him about Timewyrm 💀💀
Ultimecia? Really? o.o
I mean... the most optimal way to min/max in FFVIII is to just run from every non-boss battle until you have every single GF (so you can equip GF's for max stat gains for as many levels as possible) and unlike trying to do the same in FFVI, it's extremely easy in FFVIII.
@Firion Al'Hade If you know how to junction and have Lionheart and the Aura spell, she's a joke no matter what your stats are.
The thing is he didn't know that. You know all that knowledge from gamefaqs.
@@praetorxyn ok but not everyone like you i guess
OMG zophar i remember lunar 1 was so eays then my little kid ass went to lunar 2 and zophar fucked me up!!!

Kingdom Hearts is really guilty of this
Ultimecia has some potential to wipe your party regardless. Though FF8 is full of cheese, you can use recov med rf and call shop to make mega potions from tents to sell for profit and use med lv up to level remedy all the way up to holy war, makes your party invincible. You'd have a hard time losing with that.
I know the vid's a while ago but the real JRPG fan at home my brother has beaten Colasmos, with a bit of help from me especially not knowing he was able to do one thing at the start
Colasmos' dark aura makes him pretty much impossible to kill since it's actually boosting his defence. you'll have pretty much everything in the game by the time you've grinded enough for Colasmos, so you'll definitely have the sword of light, seems counter intuitive but as soon as you can have the hero throw the sword of light at the boss, it gets rid of his aura and takes him from 100% to... 99% power, he takes much more damage after that though, then focus on his arms and he'll lose turns and attacks once you've beaten those, he will try to revive his arms though.
he does have a few more asspulls as the fight goes on though, like an ability to stop time except for one character he only has that when he's down to a third of his health or so though. must of taken my brother nearly an hour just on the successful try on Colasmos alone
you attempted calasmos at in the upper 50's my characters are in the mid 80's and I'm still scared I'm not strong enough 🤔😂
I beat calasmos there is a trick to beating him first you need the real sword of light to even stand a chance use it as a item and you need the twins on your team with there magic as high as possible and there best equipment I recommend going through all the post game content to get everyone as strong as possible make sure you stock yagdrisil leaves and more restoring items focus on colasmos arms first and keep your health topped up and use buffs as if you where playing a mega ten game and prepare to renew them when he dispels them powered up explosions work really well hear fighting him reminds me of lavos from chrono trigger Veronica has a spell that when used uses up all her remaining magic power but does extreme damage if you use it over and over you destroy him easily just keep using restoratives on her and spam this combined with the hero’s attacks and prepare to heal or revive anyone who falls hustle is an invaluable skill to have during this fight you can also get a superior sword of light but you still need to use the original sword as an item there is also a great sword of light that you have to use two handed you can also the luminaries armor and shield which has the best defense in the game
broooo seriously not one period or comma ?😒
Did you get to the final boss of smt iv apocalypse?
FF8 you just need a full 99 stack of aura triple and curaga. Have rinoa aura squall to limit break constantly and all three characters tripled up to curaga everyone when it gets to hells judgment. Even when squall is low on HP and in aura switch between characters till the high percentage of his limit break shows up. Healing and defense for the other 2 and you should be fine. It is tricky but once you get it you get it and the ending is awesome
JRPG end bosses is why i don't play many JRPGs
one final boss recently that gave me a lot of trouble was the phantom brave final boss, It was wiping out my characters left and right, I managed to beat them eventually though with some careful strategy and a bit of luck.
I remember that boss and i remember him 1 shotting my characters but i don't remember him being difficult. I think i use the kill him before he kills you thing and something else that made him a non threat because AI is dumb.
never stopped at a final boss
I hope you will be able to find Persona 4 Golden so you can play through it in order to experience the extra stuff that is in it unlike the vanilla version of Persona 4
It has a PC port on Steam now.
I got stuck on the boss in DQXI because I forgot to equip/use the required 1 handed sword lmao (I was using a 2 handed swords build). I facepalmed so hard when I realized.
FF8, doomtrain, meltdown, triple, aura, limit break the hell out of Ultimecia. Squall, Zell and Irvine are so completely broken.
I usually swap out Zell for Selphie for her Limit Break but yeah if you Aura Squall and Irvine you can wreck that bitch fast.
all you need to do is meltdown and use limit on any normal boss especially if you are using squall, rinoa and irvine with fast ammo
@@RPGeenius i think i know where eric problem: he got the press turn system trap, it is when smt player knew how the press turn but they didnt realize the subtle game rule, basically he thought that due to press turn you have to utilize every weakness that the enemy had, not knowingly that nearly every boss had elemental shield, plus the unwritten rule in many smt series, treat your mp like gold, seriously mp in this game is ultra expensive in any stage of game, and mp recovery item is basically non exist
But then again if it is the 2 last boss of nocturne i kinda understand, but izanami? As long you got any persona from max social link you are pretty much can beat her
The shin magami tensei games on 3ds can be pretty tough still need to go back to smt strange journey 👀
Did you try Etrian odyssey at advance difficulty? (4 or 5 are the "Easiest" yeah, right)
I beat all of the SMT games, but I didn't do Strange Journey on the harder difficulties because it burned me out.
You need a special sword to beat calasmos, what is more, you need to use it as an item. It’s really hard to hit this boss without the sword.
Entirely.
For me the most difficult final boss was Bhunivelze+ hard mode. Lightning Returns.
@Firion Al'Hade the in game clock is a non issue you can get infinite time easily. the best way to grind stats is to do early missions and start over and the final boss (+) is quite easy as you can become immune to damage.
@@zeosummers3984
it was difficult only the first time. and being immune to damage is boring. you can win without it.
@@true-omegaid8467 yup but its there and its not like its hard to figure out. and some garbs that are just too broken. and overclock and items.
And Aeronite?
@@lagms this is optional.
Oh my god, my first time vs Dhoulmagus, he completly destroyed my team. It was very frustrating. 😋
@@worax Bruh. That fight was a test of patience, strategy, and endurance. Given how tough he is and being a two phase boss, you feel like they made you fight him way too early. You have to grind a bit.
Personally i had trouble with the Dragons at the end game. I think i managed about 2 or 3 dragons before i had enough and quit.
I laughed a lot watching this video. Great content bro 👍🏻
It took me two weeks to make it to that fight and after one too many losses, I didn’t play the game again for a whole year
If you can trigger Rinoa's Invincible Moon, and have Aura for unlimited Limit Breaks, Ultimecia is a cinch, regardless of your level.
well, FF8 scales enemy levels to your own, so level really technically doesn't matter. it's all about learning the proper way to junction.
@@mistersomaru *cough abuse limit breaks*
Erick's two pet peeves.
-No Save Points before Final Boss
-Save Points after Point of no Return before Final Boss
Heh
I think there shouldn’t be a point of no return.
@@ltb1345 nah, there just needs to be a warning about it. Like, before you go into the dungeon.
Just so you know when get a bad ending in atelier games, you can play new game plus which lets you keep money, armor, and weapons so you can focus on exploring and leveling the second time.
The hardest boss in drgon quest xi is the timewyrm, a new boss that was added in the switch version. Way harder than Khalasmos
That final movement on your video was dope!! i laughed a lot
Right?
can i ask erick? have you ever played granblue fantasy?
The final boss on Arc The Lad Twilight Spirit, that bastard was getting on my nerves. What make it so hard is the use of Spirit stones 🤦🏿♂️
I scummed the final boss of FF8, I stockpiled heros, and just slammed her with no care for anything
lol i just beat blue dragon.
Fun fact, i played each of the top 3 games of your top for the first time this year, in a row ^^
I kinda disagree on the difficulty of their final boss though, especially on Destroy which i thought was underwhelmingly easy.
(just keep the cursor pointed at moves he's already learned to avoid learning a new one) Keep Aura status up and spam limit breaks
With Squall and Zell also using limits, you'll do the most damage possible in the least amount of time and be untouchable for half the battle.
Devs probably should have given the sword of light a clearer description of what it does, don't worry, I fell for that trap too.
