I bought the SE when it came out 1.5 years ago to get a taste in the ecosystem (followed by the Apple watch 6), because I already had a Macbook for work. I loved that phone, except for the miserable battery life and the horrendous fingerprint scanner that just does not work with sweaty fingers (migrated from the Galaxy S10E, which has a waaaay better one built into the power button). I was waiting for this refresh to come and went all in for the 13 Pro Max, because I've never had a large phone before, I always went for the "mini" whenever I had a chance, but not gonna lie, I love this form factor. I got used to the weight in 4-5 minutes even after using an SE for 1.5 years, and the battery life feels like salvation.
I had an iPhone 12 Pro Max and I thought that one was a battery champion when I try my iPhone 13 pro max I was surprise I couldn’t even make a dent in the Battery Life with all the use I put on it
I love the iphone form factor (iphone 12 pro) too compared to samsung (s21 ultra) because of how either more elongated, too light and unbalanced on the hand due to the larger camera modules( having a case solved this for me) of the s21 ultra(exynos). The lighter phone made me feel the build was cheaper. The screen also felt more responsive while playing games like dead by daylight or Moba games. Maybe I am just too used to iphone like how MKBHD really likes the pixel camera.

I also had the iPhone SE, and it was a big jump for me also, but it’s worth the adjustment! I love the phone, and I can actually get all day battery life lol, unlike the iPhone we 2nd gen lol

I'm happy to have bought the 12 on sale. It's reasonably good and for the mainstream customer like me, an extra 1.5 hours of battery and image stabilisation isn't worth spending the full retail price for the 13. I suggest others to save money and get the 12 series and then upgrade to the 14 or 15 series if it's not having any bezels and no camera bump with a punch-hole display.
Maybe if you can save a lot on a sale, but getting the 12 from Apple makes NO sense. 64gb is not enough storage and the 128gb is only $50 less than the 13 with a better processor, cameras, battery and screen, not to mention resale value.
The battery, cameras, and 120 Hz this year are worth the wait. What I mean is that the price of the phone is expensive in some countries and for some three months, the prices will come down to the real phone price.. I actually cannot buy the 12 Pro Max and leave the 13 Pro Max for what it offers.
@@toadlguy Not from Apple, agreed. However, unless you're downloading and storing a lot of high quality audio, video, images and apps, 64GB would last two to three years for me.
@@user-il5vg3mm3w Honestly, they'll improve it with the 14 series. The regular models may even get 90hz next year. Unless you're desperate for a phone, you'll have a vetter upgrade next year.

Just went from se 2 to 11 new and i have no regrets 🤷🏾♂️🤩 got tired of the small size/huge bazels and battery on the se, had it for a year was good while it lasted but wanted something new but also not TOO expensive the 11 is perfect.

Yeah the results after 11 are incremental. Unless one get some kind of special deal or has a lot of money I don't see a reason to upgrade until at least the 14. I think Lady Gaga filmed one of her music videos on an iPhone 11. Lol.

Nice video. Let’s drop some thoughts on the table though. 1) the availability. I tried very hard to find an iPhone 13 mini here in Cyprus, EU and I failed. I was stuck with an iPhone 8 from 2017, one of my favorite phones ever but the battery was almost nonexistent to this point. Because I didn’t want something bigger than the 8/SE/mini size my two and only available choices was the iPhone SE2 or 12 mini, so I bought the later. 2) the battery life. I have viewed almost every single review of the iPhone 12/13 mini on UA-cam and no one has got those iPhones on their right context! Just take a look on all the comments below those reviews and almost all the people who likes the mini iPhones are also very satisfied with the battery. Why? Because mini iPhones aren’t meant to be used the same way as their bigger siblings and people who buy them knows it well. If you like mobile gaming or a pro video recorder or an editing machine you must go for a pro max, not the mini. In my not that light usage, (day long Apple Music or podcast, constantly on 5G, lots of emails and web browsing and social media and shooting a couple of photos or videos) I end the day with 20-30% battery to spare. 3) the price and the longevity. Let’s be honest, iPhones have support for 5-6 years but that doesn’t mean they can last that while. Perfect example my iPhone 8. I bought it in 2017 brand new and I have it today unscratched as my second phone in a perfect condition except… the battery! The battery health (according to battery settings) is 93% (I doubt it though) but it can’t last beyond 2 hours screen on time. Note that I have treated it well as much as I can, charged it between 40-85% without fast charging… but no. In my experience, you can’t hold to an iPhone for more than 4 years, so even an iPhone 12 is very nice option given the price.

Just upgraded from a 7 to a 13 and the 5 year wait was absolutely worth it. The battery lasts way longer, the larger screen is so much brighter, and while it lacks the 120hz display of the Pro models, I think that this phone’s battery will age better in the long term because the higher refresh rate could potentially degrade batteries

Surviving with my iPhone 11. I did get this phone upon launch. Upgraded from a XR and before that a 6s. Cost me a boatload to cancel a contract. I’ll hold out for a while
I upgraded the wife’s XR to a lavender/purple iPhone 12- here’s the killer- the trade in on the XR was valued at $700, between Apple & carrier incentives, making a 12 with 256GB of storage, $150.00. I think that’s the best deal to be had!

I kinda did the same in T-Mobile that I can trade my iPhone 8 for $400 credit and got the iPhone 12 for $330
And that’s my problem with these kinds of videos- if you’re paying full price, then yes, get the latest model.
If there is any kind of discount, for the one from last year, and it seems reasonable to you and friendly on your wallet, do that.
The carriers are obviously sitting on piles of iPhone 12s, otherwise they wouldn’t be offering up these kinds of deals.

I bought the iPhone 12 mini because of its price, with all the offers and discounts it cost me $460 for the 128gb version, I just wanted a small camera centric secondary smartphone as I usually use 2 smartphones (1 android and other ios) and I have already pre-ordered the pixel 6 for official use, and the mini is for my personal use

The 11 to the 12 was a solid upgrade.
OLED screen which is by far sharper and better looking than the 11’s LCD, and the 5G connectivity were the two factors that for me made the biggest difference.
I got the 11 as a first iPhone. Happy as Larry 😊

I upgraded from Xiaomi Mi9 SE to the Iphone 11 it’s amazing feels way more premium even though I downgraded from an OLED display can’t really notice a difference tbh battery health is great (been using the xiaomi for 2 year and it required for me to charge 5 times in a heavy use day) no lagging very fast just awesome overall
If one of your iPhone 11’s is pretty well used, could you test it’s water resistance at this point? I’m interested if it deteriorates. I do t think it would, Apple is pretty good with that kinda thing but still. I can’t afford a new phone so I want to know for practical reasons

I bought the iPhone 12 6 months after it was released and I’m going to stick with it for a few years. I cracked the back but it’s not so bad and it’s been in a case ever since. Everything is perfectly fine. Battery doesn’t last a whole day though, I begin the day with a full charge and charge it again in the late afternoon.

I currently have an 11, and intended to upgrade to the iPhone 13 mini. When the 13 mini came, I realized that I enjoyed the larger screen size far more than I thought I did. Decided to to return the mini. I actual like the color on the display of the 11 over the 13 mini, but, wowza! the quality of video on the mini was amazing! My wife and kids all have the SE and they love their phones. The SE is a great first phone for kids.
A good first phone for kids is a flip phone. They can call home when need be, not waste time on [anti] social media/the internet , and not break their 300$ phones.

My 8 Plus is still in pretty good shape after 4 years, but I’m getting the itch to upgrade. The lightness and pocketability of the new phones are remarkable.

Iphone 13 appears to be the first OLED iphone I am able to use as all previous models gave me searing eye pain and headaches. The 13 Pro and 13 Mini also gave me a nasty migraine. I would have been happier with the 13 Mini as I'm ready for a smaller phone after using a 7 Plus for 5 years. But the 13 is a nice upgrade, just not sure the flat sides are hand friendly. *UPDATE: nope. Iphone 13 gave me motion sickness feeling that never passed. Had to return.

@@stacy788 It’s complicated. I have the iPad mini 6 as well. It serves as my on-work-hours primary productivity device and I don’t feel like using it when not on the clock. Off hours around the house I enjoy having the screen real estate of the 13 PM, having traded up from the 12 Mini. Or if it’s super serious there is a 12.9 iPad Pro floating around. Sometimes though, for hiking or working out or whatever needs unencumbered mobility, the Max is just too much of a chonker. Hence, 13 mini. Like shoes, there isn’t a single option that covers all terrain.

Which has the better battery life?
13 Mini and 12 are two different sizes of phones, you need to decide which size you like more, 13 Mini has a better battery life, better cameras (including cinematic mode 😁), smaller notch, double the storage for the same price, faster chip etc. But if you don't need or particularly care about all those features... then you might want to go with the 12. But personally I wouldn't even think twice, I'd 100% go for the 13 Mini because it gives you a lot of extra features, not to mention one extra year of software support. Yes, it'd be smaller but that's okay to me,

Mini is smaller than SE 3 whilst giving you more screen and more comfortable in the hand.

The 11 doesn't have the improved glass case. This is a must.
I bought iPhone 12 now which is 15k less than 13 mini in India. I want to buy regular 13 but it is 20k more than 12.
I got one on my iPhone 12 since some are out of stock and two choices of colours, orange and purple.
Went from an SE2 to a 12 mini. ATT was selling them for half off with no trade in required. If it was Apple prices ($599 vs $699) then the extra for the 13 mini would make sense. But this is $300 vs $699 and the 13 mini is not worth $400 more than the 12 mini.
And an aside. People talk about the mini’s small screen and bad battery life, but coming from the SE2 this screen seems ridiculously big and the battery life has been great by comparison.
One can hope that 13 mini will become new SE, perhaps with only one of current cameras and slightly downclocked SoC for even more battery.
So, I’m looking at upgrading my teen sons for Christmas. Right now they on on the cheapest 8s. I don’t think SE will feel like an upgrade to them, so I’m torn between 12/13 mini. These are teens, and not the most careful, so I’m looking at keeping costs down. Any recommendations from Rene or the crowd?
I suggest you save money and get the 12 mini. If the extra hour of battery life and a slightly better camera means much, get the 13 mini but it's better to get the 12 mini on sale and hold on to it for a better upgrade down the line. The 13 series isn't a much larger upgrade to the 12 series other than pro motion on the pro models and image stabilisation with cinema mode on the 13 regulars. I bought the 12 on sale for half-the-price in the country I'm in and recommend the same.

Or another cheaper option is iPhone 11 for both of them. . Both together you can get for under a 1000 brand new.
It’s got decent battery life . Good functional sleek service. Everything a teen wants and needs .
I’m not going to lie .
Anything phone after SE isn’t an upgrade but a phsicological upgrade . as they all do give same functional required benefit. when your used to the phone . You stop losing interest in if it’s 4K or pro motion.
The battery life is the main notable difference as the new generation do have crazy long battery

12 mini or a good deal on an iPhone 11 Pro would feel like a good upgrade.
Either 13mini as last phone - next one they'll buy themselves - or don't bother and take iPhone _11_ (Pro?Max?).
12 is too much on the fence for my taste - gives you neither price drop, neither battery, neither latest & greatest.
Honesty in terms of performance, the SE will absolutely smack the 8 when comparing speeds, optimization, camera, etc.
However, I’d go at least a 12 series phone for the OLED and the 5G support.

It baffles me that us down here in India consider a premium technology in America ‘cheap’. Perspective?

I share the same feeling with you. Here in Brazil is the same shit. I had to pay 1.132 dollars for iPhone 12 256gb and this is NOT by far the worst price in my country. Official price at Apple website is around $1500.

I have made my decision. I’m gonna get the 13, because spending $200 more for an extra camera, bigger battery and smoother display isn’t worth it.

Yes iphone 13 is worth it , where battery life is great and the difference between non pro and pro variant is minimal unlike 11 but if u are budget constrained then better go for 12 as its way faster .

I got the iPhone 11 yesterday coming from a iPhone 7 plus these are good phones check my battery health is say it's calibration will take a few weeks but it's brand new if it drop just 1% I'm sending it back I'm tired of people not believing that these updates kill your battery and cpu performance I love my 11 it's not a bad phone if you have a 7 or below I'll go 11 and higher it's definitely noticeable in speed weight and etc

Better buy 128g, 64g really not enough and it's quite awkward. Plus ios system keep updating will eat more space in ur phone. So 128g is the better choice.
Hey Renee, reviewers talk about specs and this and that in all their videos. But there simply aren’t any in-depth videos about the very basic functions that a phone is supposed perform i.e. calling and texting. I’ve got an iPhone XR and the Intel modem on this is actually quite bad. I don’t know how Apple 🍎 away with this abomination in 2 (3?) generations of their phones. My job requires me to drive all around the US and the networks keep dropping of on interstates and a lot of rural areas because of this horrendous modem. I have an iPhone 12 with the same carrier as that of the XR as a back up and am able to call, text and stream from the 12 when the network drops off on the XR. The XR is pretty much alright in dense urban areas but is quite pathetic in all other milieus. Would you consider doing some comparison videos on the current set of modems and carrier aggregation (CA) and how this is vital given that 3G is being phased out by most carriers and how this will affect older phones regarding calling and texting, especially for people like me who don’t always have the luxury of being in urban areas with great coverage? Thank you and take care.
The XR has an Intel modem, like the 11. The 12 has a Qualcomm modem, like the 13.
@@ReneRitchie I know what modems each of those models has. Those Intel modems were absolute turds and Apple got away with it in part because reviewers don’t do a deep dive into the quality of the modems themselves.
