Thanks for this. Low light video on the ultra-wide is what is most important to me. In that setting, the real world difference isn't huge from what I can see.
Aside from the selfies that for whatever reason were more sharp taken by the 13, I actually felt like everything else looked that 1% better but on the previous iPhone - the 12. I'd say that this means that there's no noticeable difference in the end and also no real improvement. Thanks for a very informative and clear video.

Good video. Yes the portrait mode is a tad better on the 13. But while shooting video in most instances I found the audio a little better on the 12. Selfies yes the 13 is a tad better again. But surely not worth an upgrade. Thank you for the trouble you take to make all these videos.

First of all Alex, we really appritiate your work doin this comparisons. You did an amazing job again this time. Spended time outside, walked, ran, showed photos and videos, day and night time. Video edited and maked it beautifully... Thanks for all that. Personaly i don't use apple products anymore, i stoped by iphone 4. But i wanna say something too. The image stabilization on the 13 is clearly improved, photots and videos are almost the same, just tiny little differences. But for sure the microphone on the 13 is not beter, is not even equal, is worst. My 200 Dollar phone, have HD microphone in comparison with the 13. If i had the 12, i wouldn't buy the 13.

Day & nighttime shots looked more yellow with the 12. The 13 seemed to have more natural coloring, especially at night, and seemed to reduce over-brightening the night photos. The 13 seemed to allow for darker skies and more noticeable stars than the 12. I would have expected bigger differences. Thanks for doing those comparisons!

I went into a store and compared them in real life and honestly, my 12 looked exactly the same to me.
the stabilization on 13 is stunning, but the mic sound like a midrange phone mic.

I think that the Difference in daytime is mainly related to white balance which is just part of digital configuration. Just change white balance and the cameras absolutely the same.
For brighter face just reduce shadows on photo edition.
Wow. Thank you! I’ll stick with my 12 and see what the 14 has to offer. 13 is a definite pass if you have a 12. Seems the camera’s are reaching their limitations as improvements get smaller and smaller each generation. All they can really seem to offer now is new features. At least the 12 offered better night mode over the 11.
13 offered longer battery life than 12
@@user-kolba 12 battery life is also good…easily getting 7-8 hours on screen time

12 --> 13 is marginal as it's like the 12 vs 12 pro max sensor. You may get some better performance outside of Apple's camera app.
@@user-kolba I have an Apple Watch and iPad, so I only use about 30 to 40% of my battery a day on my Mini, so not really a factor for me.

An unexpected conclusion. I was sure that I would see a difference in the night shooting, but the day shooting would be the same. But it turned out the opposite, the difference in favor of the iPhone 13 is visible in the daytime pictures, but the night photos and especially the video did not make an impression. In the night photos, the iPhone 12 showed more dark details (for example, a tree in front of a house at 4:00 or a red car at 4:41). And on the night video, the difference was not noticeable at all. By the way, if the quality of video shooting is reduced to 1080p, will the brightness increase?
Ist's because of the time in nightmode. 1sec on iphone13 Vs. 2-3 sec on iPhone 12.
The shorter time is perfect for spontaneous pictures.
Set the time manually to 3 secs as well on the iPhone 13 and the picture will be way brighter because of the larger sensor.
It's a shame he didn't do it. Don't really no now if brighter means better... Could come down to nightmode preferences ;)

Is it just me or did Apple tone down the colors to almost similar as the iphone 11? Photos are clearer and sharper for sure but less saturated than the iphone 12. TBH, I prefer less saturated photos. It looks more apple and less android. Just my two cents on this.

iPhone 13 just a bit brighter , so in that case it’s a bit difference 🤷♂️ in that new cinematic mode they literally can add that on the 12’s if they really wanted lol… but the sound for some reason sounded better on the 12 btw… but can apple just add the raw camera mode on the 12 😂
They could backport so many things but don't.
If you want raw you'll have to settle for lightroom and also their HDR technical preview etc. I found it gives a more natural result, and you can edit it better

The 12 Pro Max has a superior camera than the 12. I’m pretty sure it’s better than the basic iPhone 13 as well.

No.I have used both and can clearly say its more natural in 13 whereas 12 makes it more warm tone. Now its personal reference which one you like more

The iphone 13 images look too sharp to a digital level. They reached the max capabilities of the 12mp count processing with hdr 4. They need to upgrade that next year. 48mp with moderate processing will render much better neutral results if the leaks are true.
Yeah for me some of those shots looked better on the 12, some on the 13, which you’d expect in a random sample…. I’m a photographer, but probably not worth upgrading, although the 13 probably has the slight edge…. Thx.

When I started taking pictures for this video both phones were at 100%. By the time I finished the iPhone 12 was at 61% where the iPhone 13 was at 78%. So about 10-15% better battery on the 13 I would say
It's not a huge upgrade. I just got mine yesterday and I'm coming from an 11 and one thing I can see for sure is much better night mode photos. The 11s are useable but there is generally a lot of noise whereas the 13 does a pretty good job overall with far less noise. Microphone in your video seems much better on the 13.

@@Potatocat_ well it might be. Full price I'd say no and would recommend waiting for the 14. But I traded my 11 in for the 13 because I was just tired of the 11s LCD display and how it wasn't that great at taking photos in low light. Very pleased with the 13 photos and videos. But if you have an 11 and just want to outright buy a 13 full price...I'd say just hold off until next year. Not worth it.
Again at 2:20, I prefer the brighter photo from the iPhone 12
Whatever improvement there is in the image quality, if any, is not showing in the video as the pics and footage from both phones look broadly similar (and I actually preferred the 12's output in quite a few instances). The most striking difference to me was in the video sound quality; the 12 had markedly better sound than the 13 as the latter's vids seem to have been noticeably more impacted by the wind than the former (wind noise suppression on the 13 diminished the sound quality to a greater extent than on the 12). Images are sharper on iphone 12 in night time photos. Seems like the standard ois is better than the new sensor shift stabilization on the new iphone 13. Motion softness are seen on 13 images.

I did find that the sound when you spoke on the videos was actually nicer on the 12 as the 13 squashed the sound lower in volume but the processor on the 13 for focus seems a little better and more light let in. so I'm not sure still if I want the 13 for extra £100 or just go with the 12. I mean like the man below me said the selfie camera is better on the 13.

Ultra wide camera has more details and better stab on Iphone 13. This is the only big difference between them if we don’t take the colours in consideration.

Has anybody noticed the grainy flickering noise while shooting with front camera on iPhone 13? Especially when I use in my room with artificial light it gets worse. Is there an issue with my front camera?

I just bought the 13 mini but wish I bought the 12 because I like the warmth the 12's camera provides so much better than the sharpness and brightness of the 13. I actually prefer my iPhone 8 camera over this 13!
I’m in the same! And googleing it i found that’s because in 13 u can’t disable hdr mode (that made the photo with a filter IA that looks like android) and it doesn’t happens with the 12. So i think i’ll return the 13 buyed 5 days ago and buy the 12 because i want natural pictures

Because iPhone 13 is faster taking night time photos, it has an advantage of taking better pictures for moving objects at night.
Christ, difference is so slight overall it's clear the 13 series are for those looking to move on from their ageing iPhone X/XS/XR. Even the iPhone 11 would still be fine tbh.

iPhone 13's night mode by default gathers light for 1 second. This setting should be changed to 3+ seconds to get good night photos.
I did change it for some pictures. very slight difference
Yellow tint seems to be gone. I picked up same differences

I think it’s remarkable that even now they are managing to continue to make clearly visible improvements.
If Apple chose to apply the technology in a form factor specifically aimed at photography they would likely take a significant market share from Nikon/Canon.
