I will say that in countries where the drinking age is 18 it is a lot harder to tell people's age at the club (at least in Europe, I don't really know about Australia). In the states I immediately can tell if someone's 23 or younger at a bar or a club, most of the time they don't know how to drink. Even when I was 22, seeing a 20 or 19 year old it was like they were children, but outside the U.S. I've found that it's harder to tell. Not sure why it's like that but it seems to make a huge difference. Buuuut I mean after they left the club and actually started talking they must have had nothing in common at all I would expect.

Maybe you've graduated college and have been working and someone two years younger hasn't, or you're living on your own and they're still living in the dorms, you're going out to bars and they're going to frat parties. I remember going to a party once and my friends commenting "omg we're the only seniors here everyone else at this party is a freshman", as if we couldn't relate to them at all. When I was 30 I married a 19 year old I met on Tinder. Not only was there an age gap, I had a master's degree and a mortgage, she worked as a retail cashier and lived with her mom. Fast forward 8 years... we are still happy together with 3 beautiful kids. Our relationship is strong. We share a sense of humour and value the same things in life. I honestly couldn't wish for a better partner and she would tell you the same. Not every 19 year old is a partying nitwit. A teen with a very clear idea of their future is a better choice than a 36 year old who "first wants to travel the world". Obviously, the first part of this post doesn't do my wife any justice. She's actually very intelligent and mature. I've met plenty of much older people, with fancy degrees and good jobs even who I couldn't date in a milllion years because they have no personality or original thoughts. I never would have guessed I would end up with a girl that young and so different from myself but I'm glad I did. Best decision I ever made.

The legal drinking age in Australia is 18. Hey, I'm just relaying a statistic. I think that's relative to the story. When I was 33, I did not know WTF to do with a hot AF 21 year old that just loved older men. It was back in the days of Yahoo Personals. But a 21 year old contacted me and wanted to meet. I was separated and going through the final few months of a divorce. She was this six foot blond that turned heads. Yeah she had done some legit modeling. The arm-candy factor was like a 10. The conversation was a 2 and her horizontal game was like a 3. It's a 105 outside and she drove over to my house with the AC off to save a dollar. That long roadtrip and you make a ScoobyDoo reference... and all get back is crickets. Trying to explain Shaggy... yeah... damn that was a long drive.

I feel like if you just happen to run into them at a bar or club, sleep together, and it's just a physical thing like that then it's a bit suspect but reasonable. Just out for a fun night, got some physical energy out, whatever. But dating someone that much younger than you is insane. You have nothing in common at all likely unless the younger person is wildly precocious and battle-tested. And even if they ARE very mature and been through a lot at that age, they probably have a lot of shit to work through and will be an entirely different person at the end of the tunnel. Just seems insane.
