I love chili crisp and chili oil. For chili oil I make my own salsa macha. Salsa macha Is a lot like chili oil. For chili crisps never really had any brands. So I will definitely have to try these.
SB is the one for us. More an umami topping since the heat isn't that hot, which is perfect for us. Was waiting on your review since you showed in in intro..
I get the Lao Gan Ma brand sold at Walmart. And I put it on stuff like baked chicken, breakfast hash browns, pot stickers, mixed with kewpie atop my cheeseburgers. And I am not ashamed of what I'm doing.
Guys I'm so grateful for this video 🙏I only recently discovered chili crisp and I'm like "how have I never heard of this as a hot sauce fan😅" I went down a rabbit hole and discovered so many Brands I don't know which one I like. I know I don't like too much sweet. I like Savory with medium levels of heat. To go with my Momofuku noodles. Which ones would you say is the best for that? Also your tongues must have been so numb after this😅
We welcome you to the Chili Oil Gang 😂 Depending on how crispy/crunchy you like your chili oil/crisp, you might like Zindrew (regular) or Boon Sauce (depending on the batch as some are more spicy than others). If you like it more crunchy, Kari Kari might be your best bet. Our latest taste test had a lot more medium/mild ones so you might wanna check that out too :) ua-cam.com/video/ZVyz7_Xg-pU/v-deo.html
@PeterLisaKim I ended up watching a bunch of year chili crisp videos. I couldn't stop 😅 I've narrowed it down to Holy Duck, Kari Kari and SZE Daddy. I'm primarily gonna use them on eggs, noodles, and steak
I’ve seen chili crisps around but never knew there was a difference between chili oil and crisps. Thanks for the education 👍 surprised to see sze daddy on here lol it’s definitely got more of a sauce texture than a crisp. But it is good regardless. We’ll definitely have to try fly by jing. Loved your chiu chow recommendation.
We took a page out of the Eater book (who listed it as a crisp) and threw that on there since we were intrigued 😂 But we definitely think you guys will like the Fly by Jing! 😁
I really like the Momofuku Chili Crunch (Extra Spicy) but it doesn't give me the same traditional chili crisp vibes as Lao Gan Ma for example. It's more chili flakes than all the other crispy beans and chili bits.
You have to try barnacle foods “kelp chilli crisps” it’s the best hands down. It’s a company out of Juneau Alaska but they now sell it at all world foods markets
I agree. They are up there in price. They’re fun to try once in a while, but when we run out we tend to go to our local 99 ranch/ Asian market to restock on the cheaper kind. (:
Not me sitting at my desk eating Zindrew extra spicy chili crisp by the spoonful....I think the spice really dies down when you mix it into other condiments or dishes.
😵 really?? Omg we bow down to you! 🙇♂️ 🙇🏻♀️ We’ve been eating it since we made this video and it’s still just as spicy. (And we’re spicy lovers too!)
Well, I bought the Kroger brand as my first attempt, and while I am in love with the flavor, I don't care for the oil. They used canola oil and it... I think it has an odd viscosity. I'm rinsing the spoon in hot water to get the chilli crisp residue off and the oil doesn't seem to want to let go of the spoon. Umm.
We haven't but it shows that they sell it at one of our favorite local small business shops! We'll give it a try and eventually have a review up on chilioilgang.com. Thanks!
Fly by Jing is hella overrated in my opinion but they have a great social media/Marketing team. Lao Gan Ma the OG grandma one is my favorite followed closely by Zindrew.
I started with Fly by Jing on my chili crisp adventure. I've been excited to try other cheaper options, but so far everything has been worse. Blah. Fly by Jing too good :(
So I’m just starting my chili crisp journey too and fly by jing was my first and mannn I now have an obsession lol. I just got some laoganma and idk I think it might be my favorite. It’s weird like one day I’m no fly by jing is waaay better and the next I think Lao gan ma is better lol. Either way they’re both fucking AMAZING 😊
@@dancegidance It just depend what you use it for. Zandrew don;t work or taste that good when I make dry noodle but awesome in soup base dishes. Lao gan ma is amazing in everything.
I used one jar Fly by Jing in one meal. price was more than the meal . make my own now. opened 2 restaurants since. using same type of taste. plan to open 5 more branches within next 10 years. you guys you do restaurant reviews. .
Lol I can’t afford all these expensive chili crisps, I got two fly by Jings at Costco for $16 on sale which seems to be a good price and I still was like ‘dang that’s a lot’. I like it but I’m not sure how much better it is than Lao gan ma. I’ll have to buy some and do a comparison. Plus the fly by Jing seems to be about half oil which is kinda lame. The oil itself tastes good but that’s a lot of money for only a half full jar of bits.
I work at an Asian grocery store and FBJ sauces are one of the things I'm in charge of ordering. Idk how much Costco buys them for (they can buy more at a time than us so they might get a better wholesale discount), but at OUR store that would be us selling them at a loss! So from that perspective you got a great deal and I totally would have leapt at that sale Also my boss was also confused as to what makes the sauce worth the money But people have even been buying the massive $32.99 jars I ordered lol It just suits some people really well I guess
hoooooly shit, these are expensive... you can make a whole batch of chilli crisp/chilli oil for a fraction of those prices. im shocked ppl actually pay so much for a small jar of chilli crisp, actually crazy.
@@MickeyDs14 I think all of their stuff is quality. I really like the chili crisp, just not for the price. I'd say its worth buying to try, but after that I'd suggest just making your own.
MomoFuku Extra Spicy isn't worth the hype whatsoever because all it is straight heat with no other savory subtleties despite its' listed ingredients. Fly by Jing is most definitely better
@@TheKaukas I ended buying the lee kum kee and it was good and bought 2 more after that about to order the fly by jing I even put it in cheap ramen and makes it flavorful
🙄 Jing is just good at marketing and jacking up prices to convey false and unwarranted quality that haven't been verified. Unlike Huy Fong Sriracha, which is Made in USA with ingredients grown in California, Jing's sauce is made entirely in China. She dropped buzz words like "high quality, locally sourced" foods. That only works if we also live in Cheng Du and know how these chili and ingredients are actually grown. Otherwise, it's NOT local and the well-known poisonous quality of Chinese produced foods have been well-documented. The reason these "fly" restaurants she referred to featured such "cheap" prices that customers gathered like flies is because they weren't always above using gutter oil, vegetables, meat, and seafood awashed in chemicals, even cardboard "meat". China's bad food quality is so well-known almost everywhere that during the recent Olympic, warnings against eating food there were given to all athletes while only specifically grown foods from farms with stringent inspections were allowed in. On top of this, a 28 oz bottle of California-made Sriracha is about $5-$6 retail but 3 6oz jars of Fly by Jing sauces direct from manufacturer is $42, EIGHT times more expensive! Kinda ridiculous if you think about it...
Hi there. There's a lot to unpack here but we'd like to chime in. One thing we can agree on is that Fly By Jing is great at marketing. Everything we purchase is emotionally driven and 'buzz words' help customers on their buying journey. Nothing out of the ordinary there. However, in the same way, using words like 'poisonous' isn't fair and although likely unintentional on your part, does harm to the brand and anyone who does business in China. We'd be naive to think that there aren't any cases of health/safety issues in China but Fly By Jing is doubling down by becoming a Certified B Corp (which was revealed to me by a member of their company after contacting them). Which is achieved through strict compliance. As for the price, it doesn't make sense to compare Fly By Jing to Sriracha. Especially if you're comparing 1 bottle of Sriracha vs a 3-pack of Fly By Jing. We know that it sounds like we're being Fly By Jing stans here but we appreciate their efforts in fighting against stereotypes that Chinese foods/products are low quality and must be 'cheap'.
