  • Seismic ammo is talking about their new 185 grain hollow point 9mm ammunition. The ammunition stays subsonic even in most PCCs and is suited for duty and carry size handguns. Hopefully more testing data will come out soon and we can learn more about this interesting line up.

    Think about this, the 185 grain 9mm is 160% heavier than the standard 115 grain variety. Given that same percentage, that’s a 288 vs 180 for .40 or an amazing 368 vs 230 for .45.

    "velocity stable" LOL. No shart Shurlock, it's going to be seated really deep so you simply won't have the powder capacity to push it faster, you're all burned up in 4". Simple science there, tiny powder charge (even 147 gr 9mm is same or less powder charge than standard pressure .38 Special) + upwards of 35,000 PSI pressure is a recipe for a very very quick burn.

      I don’t know for sure but to my knowledge they use a special slow burning powder at least that’s what I’ve heard

    WHO WOULDNT WANT THE MOST POTENT SUBSONIC AMMO THEY CAN GET IF THEY ARE SHOOTING SUPPRESSED WEAPONS

    • @nightbreed141
      @nightbreed141 5 років тому

      Well cuz of the harsh kickback that +P round gives you on pistols especially on compact and sub-compacts. So if this will give you more of a kick of that of a +P then it's not worth it since +P rounds already wear out pistol barrels a lot !

      @@nightbreed141 I see stuff like this aiming more towards the PCC and rifle type pistols with braces and suppressors on the market. Obviously it works with handguns but it's subsonic ammo and you're likely going to use it suppressed even with a pistol, so subcompacts arent likely to be fed this ammo

      @@nightbreed141 InRangeTV did a video on this. The sales rep guy said they use a slower burning powder to counteract the harsh recoil and instead turn it into a backwards push. Ian and Karl seemed to agree that it is very pleasant to shoot. I think besides the wear the slower burning powder may be more useful in full-sized pistols over subcompacts.

    I'm a bullet caster as are many other gun owner/shooters. I can cast and load 9mm cartridges to do basically what these guys want twenty-nine bucks for. My hand loads are pennies on the dollar compared to these. There are actually some of us who haven't bought store bought ammo in years.
    What's with the red bottomed cases? Are they reloadable?

    • @borkwoof696
      @borkwoof696 4 роки тому

      Do you cast hollow points?

    • @MrTjmk
      @MrTjmk 4 роки тому

      @@borkwoof696 Short answer; yes I do cast hollow points. One of the first bullet molds I purchased was a 45 caliber Lyman Devastator mold. They also make 9mm mold. It's a mold that cast hollow pointed bullets. Google it.
      I also fabricated an adjustable hollow pointing spud that allows me to increase or decrease the depth of the hollow point in order to get the bullet to expand or penetrate as needed.
      Here is pic of what I'm talking about. instagram.com/p/Bgux527BdsO/

      @pewpewTN Рік тому

      Yes, they are reloadable, but you need specific dies.
      It's a 2 part case that is both lighter & significantly stronger than brass.
      You can purchase these cases as reloading components on their own.
      You get A LOT of reloads out of them.

    • @pewpewTN
      @pewpewTN Рік тому

      +P doesn't wear out barrels.
      Pistol barrels are damn near impossible to wear out.
      Guns that aren't made for +P can have accelerated wear, but it's not the barrel that you have to worry about.

  • @clinicalcrimson1432
    @clinicalcrimson1432 4 роки тому

    Does the cavity on the hollow point seem kinda shallow to anyone else? It’s possible that the lack of expansion may have nothing to do with the increased weight and everything to do with just having a bad hollowpoint design. It looks like when someone uses a philips head to make hollow points out of .22s, which doesn’t work.
