It happens from time to time but it gets confusing when the graphic doesn’t match the results on screen or what you are saying. FYI at 12:25 in the video
Wrong graph shown in video on web based performance test... But pronunciation is correct
Max, the web speedometer graph is the other way around… above should be the M3 (faster)

Battery life really is the dealbreaker for these core ultra laptops
That's not such an easy switch is it? Doesn't that require ARM-capable Windows apps?
Wow is it Elite X? what manufacture developing Snapdragon Elite X?
@jadenamber8378 yes but windows 11 already have x64 compatibility for arm64 ,
Windows 10 had x86 compatibility
@@passive101keeps dreaming. Unlike Apple, Microsoft won’t be able to force developers to optimize their apps due arm, so I doubt the adoption of the chip will be as well as what Apple did.
@@passive101yes but windows doesn't have an ARM and leg to do so
I swear if I could play all games on a MacBook I would never think about having a windows machine again...
You can get over 90% there using Crossover. It has the same limitations as a Steam Deck in compatibility. I haven’t had any issues running games from Steam
Yup too bad it'll never happen because the amount of people like you aren't enough to warrant the developers of popular games to optimize or hell even support Mac
true that :))
This is the deal breaker for so many people, rightfully so, you'd think Apple would find a strategy to try and tackle it. If Nintendo can make an entire game console out of an ancient Nvidia Tegra X1, Apple could do it with even their lowest end hardware
@@4070super It’s already happened
Intel sucks. Remember Macs sucked during Intel days. Hopefully X Elite lives up to the hype
I think it’ll be better than we think
Both Intel and Windows suck.
AMD ftw
@@zt9233 They aren't that much better either. They can't get around the X86 ISA limitations. Even they're developing Arm chips for future PCs as Arm chips have an undeniable advantage, more so in this era of heterogenous computing. RiscV will eventually win out, even if it takes two decades.

XPS 14 with RTX 4050, 3.2K display and 1 TB SSD retails for £2499. A much more accurate comparison is with MacBook M3 Pro (12-core, 1 TB retails for £2499 also), not a MacBook Air M3...
Hey, don't dump on Max Tech getting some Dell money. ;)
No, I agree with you. This is absurd.
Well the dell got destroyed by the macbook air m3, just imagine it facing a macbook pro, it would be a massacre
@@nathankeraval6298It won’t be the same difference between an M2 or M1 vs M2 Pro or M1 Pro because they both had 6 P cores vs 4 in the M1/M2 while the M3 Pro only has 5 and couple of extra E cores. A lot of CPU heavy software like Logic only uses the P cores. The 11-core 18GB/512GB M3 Pro will smash the Dell but not be worth it over the 16GB/512GB M3 Air unless it’s heavily discounted by a third party reseller.
I agree. But that should have been the comparison from the beginning.
That would be embarrassing for the Dell. The base M3 destroyed it in pure performance. Dell has to sweeten the deal for buyers with all the extras compared to Apple. The M-series chips are simply superior.
I go for the Mac. These M1-3 are game changing... using the M2 for more than a year. There was never ever a better Mac / Notebook by far!
Same here just bought a M2 Air a month ago and it is a game changing. The two windows laptops I have are now in a locker...I have totally moved my creative workflow to Apple ( IPad+IMac+M2 Air and think to an iPhone) and don't think to never ever come back to Windows. My base M2 totally killed my Lenovo and my HP laptops and both have 16gb Ram et 512 GB SSD...
Compare XPS 14 and MacBook Pro M3
We’re planing on it!
It should be compared to the M3 Pro MacBook Pro. Especially since the XPS 14 with the RTX card in it is actually more expensive than the base M3 Pro version. Glad to here that video is coming up.
@@RirtyDascal I thought the 4050 on battery would be better than the basic M3 integrated Graphics, but the m3 unexpectedly won in autonomic GPU performance. Further tests with m3 pro no longer make sense to me.
@@samsmit812 lol, yeah I feel ya. I have the M3 Pro MacBook Pro and I'm plenty happy I made the switch and theirs no buyers remorse here. I do enjoy seeing healthy competition, so I'm glad Qualcomm is at least trying to compete in the ARM category. Can't wait to see those comparisons coming in the future. If Windows laptops can eventually compete with the battery life that Apple silicon can provide, I'd love to check one out.
I'll watch the comparison.. but doesn't this video say it all.. minus some of the physical differences/ inputs/screen? In actual usability/performance and battery life the M3 Pro is going to embarrass the XPS.. right? Or am I missing something?
At minute 12:18 the laptops are swapped, you can also see that if you look at the values on the displays beforehand!
I get the feeling this was sponsored by Dell but failed dismally
That’s was an error, I made that chart and was not feeling well that day and mixed them up, the XPS should be 19.4 and the MacBook Air is 36.6 12:20 😅
That’s called an error. Max even said that the Mac is snappier afterward.
I’ve had two different XPS laptops over the years, I finally switched to MacBook last year and got an M2 Pro after hearing great things about the M-series chips and battery life. The XPS’s were good for the first year or two but after that, their performance quickly diminished and battery life was always not great.
Could not be happier with the switch, and I can access my Microsoft apps just as easily on MacBook without issues. It’s insane the difference in quality and performance I’ve noticed between the two considering they’re very similar price points. Never buying Dell again. Still use a PC desktop though.
Microsoft apps are hobbled on Mac.
@@martingifford5415 True but depends on what levels you need those apps. For basic use of Word and Excel, the MacOS Office 365 is fine. For advance use that insurance actuaries and financial quants need, a Windows laptop is better. Just need to know the level of service you need (basic, mid, or advance).
@@martingifford5415 Mac runs windows apps better than windows. its hilarious. every windows machine turns to garbage after a year or two. so crazy. Macs last decades!!
@@Chris_Hruska your comment is interesting, it shows you know nothing about Windows (most slowdowns over the years are due to patches to mitigate hw security holes) and Macs lasting decades is as real as a PC with windows or Linux lasting the same amount. Another non Mac examples are ZX Spectrum and an Amiga 1200 in the family and they worked for many decades…
@@ricarmig I mean a 1k windows machine lasts for 2-3 years. bad hardware and software. I've used lots of stuff. my experience is the same with everyone I know. 12:17 a little mistake in showing the Speedometer results. Maybe you can fix or add a disclamer
Yeah, it happened, unfortunately can’t fix it after the video is uploaded. 12:20
The battery life makes a huge difference
Not really. Most people are working at a desk or at a home desk. Few are traveling or working at an Indonesian beach. If you need to travel, Macbooks are better.
@@akin242002 the whole point of a laptop vs a desktop computer is the portability. To say that battery life only matters when you’re traveling is missing the point of the product entirely, a computer you can take with you whenever you go, for portable products, battery life does matter.
@@TheAlex-A Most laptops provide that. Even 4-6 hours of battery life is sufficient unplugged. Who is working 18 hours straight a day? Most 9-5 office jobs you might leave your desk to go into a conference room to jump on a Teams/Zoom call for 2 hours max.
@@akin242002 You're making assumptions that everyone, if not most people, live their lives exactly as you do. To even suggest that 18 hours of battery life wouldn't be helpful because the usage is not consecutive is logically flawed as being able to use a portable product for multiple days (whether it's in staggered 4-6 hour stretches of time as you suggested or consecutive usage) without having to plug it in, has inherent value in a product whose whole point is portability, something is inherently less portable the more tethered it has to be. Moreover, I was not making an argument for or against any specific laptop, I made a general statement about battery life, so saying that "most laptops" provide enough battery life for the specific scenario you laid out has no meaning towards or against my general statement.
@@akin242002 if you need to do anything, Macs are better. lol as shown by this video. windows is a pain to use, Macs are just fun and smooth. this Mac is $700 cheaper too. that is wild!! apple is always the better deal and is super efficient
Just checked Dell’s site and it looks like the XPS 14 used for this comparison is going for over $2400. That’s squarely in MBP 14” M3 Pro territory. The MBA you tested comes in at $1700. I know you’re working on a more apples to apples (no pun intended) comparison, price wise; however, just to be fair, how about a comparison between a $2400 MBP and a $1700 version of the XPS? :)
Dell XPS this year is complete trash, it doesn't even matter. Asus Lenovo and Hp all have way better laptops for $500-$1000 cheaper
Yes, it’s insanely expensive. More expensive than a spec-ed up MacBook but doesn’t delivers performance / value to consumers.
This!!
Also I think the version he tested has dedicated graphics.....with the Integrated ARC graphics, the M3 MBA would completely destroy the Dell
the only cpu that would come close to the M3 is the i9 14900hx and those are gaming laptops, bigger heavier and noisier. The apple m3 and above chips are incredible value for single core, quiet and long battery. For desktop applications though when you factor in the ram and hard drive costs (and speeds, there are nvme gen5 drives now..) a hackintosh is the best value not a chance.. Also one could use PARSEC remotely
That LED touchbar on the Dell is HORRIBLE. You can even see it strobing in the video.
It always strobes on camera, but in real life, it does not. I have an xps 13 plus and it is the similar design for the XPS 14. Just watch Andrew Marc Davids review. He says it as well.
The strobing is due to the refresh rate of the camera. It’s most likely a solid light if you saw it in person.
That’s only through the video in person it doesn’t throb
It's a deal breaker.
Agreed. Dell got the feedback and now offer a dark colored XPS 14 now to add some contrast to the bright F key lights. Still a bad idea in the first place.
Any plans on comparing the new ASU’s zephyruses to the MacBook Pro?
XPS 14 is great! But the Macbook Air with M3 is absolutely better.
my opinion.
12:18 graphs are inverted lol. Very nice comparison. Also, I wanted to ask how much performance does the XPS loose for running on battery?
no performance loose on battery thats why he did the test on battery
12:17 Your chart is reversed. The M3 MacBook Air is what scored the 36.6 (clearly shown in multiple clips before and after this time stamp), yet you labeled that bar as the XPS 14 2024.
I would like to see a comparison with the M3 14 MacBook Pro with the Pro chip with the XPS 14. Thank you for this video.
Please compare the Dell to 14” MacBook Pro. Thank you.
Thanks for including speedometer test.

Happy Easter good Video
Can you do a comparison with the m3 pro and dell xps 14
What about the 14” MacBook Pro Max vs the Dell XPS?
Great job
Could you please do the same test but use the 14 inch MacBook Pro.
Thank you
Thanks Max, when you can try to make a comparison with a laptop with Amd Ryzen 7000 or 8000 series with NPU (the NPU of the 8000 series is like 60% faster than that of the 7000) to compare it against the M3.
Thanks and regards.
Could you check the Speddometer chart? Is 36 for dell’s or Mac?
Also Lightroom chart. The size of the bar for M3 is wrong. 1:10 should be 1/3 of the XPS !!!!
You have de speedometer web test results reversed on the final scores, great work though, has always.
Hello, your video is very nice. There is something that caught my attention. I think you wrote the speedometer 3.0 results wrong in the video. You mixed the results of the two laptops. The Macbook received 36.6 points. 12:17
Please check the Summary page of the Speedometer test. I think the results got swapped between the XPS and MacBook showing the MacBook inferior in this aspect which is the other way round. Thanks.
Test it against M3 Pro 12 Core unbinned chip version
Link to wallpaper op the MacBook?:p
still waiting for asus zy... g14. i love how you test them unplugged. nice
You should add other productivity tests like compression decompression, specviewperf, code compiling... The M-series Macbooks have historically been good at photo and video editing, but I'd be curious to see them compare in other tests !
How did you get the temperature monitor on the MacBook? I’ve been trying to get that on my M2 MBA. 0:30
This is TG Pro of Tunabelly Software. Worth every cent...
By the way your web speedometer 3.0 test you displayed the results the wrong way around attributing the Mac results to the XPS

Did you mix up speedometer scores ? Looks like you did !
I think they got the scores, correct, they just needed to change. “higher is better” to lower is better.
12:21 your graph is mislabeled. May want to fix that.
Wow😂😂
14:23 the graph scale is misleading too, macbook is 3x faster

You have the results in the speedometer web test graphs inverted, the MBA result has the name of Dell and vice versa
12:18 I think you meant to have the 36.6 on the MacBook and 19.4 on the XPS?
Compare to other windows laptop brands or just mac's ?
Is the speedometer test the opposite or is it my illusion?
Seriously the preformase of a notebbook comparing to a super laptop is amazing and shocking M series few years later will be unstopaple
just if other keep using x86
Can u mod the MacBook with the thermal pads and test pls
Do you reckon the high heat in the MBA will be a problem over time? M3 MBA is even hotter than M2 MBA. Just wished they would use thermal paste to take the edge off (wouldn't do it myself). I get nervous over 100 degrees.
No nothing to worry about, the chips can physically handle way higher temps
When is ARM coming to Windows
Pro tip: double check your charts before finish rendering your video. There are mistakes pretty much on every video. Most common being getting the products and their scores mixed up.
@Max Tech- Perform this test with the MacBook Pro featuring the same chipset but equipped with fans, allowing us to observe the tests without any performance degradation.
I was grooving on the dell up to the point I saw there are no function keys... terrible
Hey Max, or anyone else with M3 Macbook Air. Can you try Low-power-mode. I got MBA 13" M3 16/512, but low power mode does not work at all, I set it "always", I do Geekbench test, power/frequencies, all is the same with and without low-power-mode.
I also have M2 MBP, and it works as expected, 66% reduction in power usage in LPM. Can someone confirm with M3? I called apple support, they told me to wait 2-3 days for feature to start working, because Macbook is new, I told them that it does not make sense, but ok...
Micro SD slot? I'm sold. But if you need a fast and quiet computer, then Mac. Even do not think about Dell.
@12:16 you have the Speedometer 3.0 scores flipped
So for TWICE THE PRICE, you get a nicer (but smaller) screen, 1/3 the battery length, loud fans that can take 2-3x longer to do production work... seems like a deal.
Not sure this thing is worth bothering to do a comparison to the M3 Pro MBP....
There's a mistake in the video.
In the speedometer the results are the other way around.
Otherwise great video.
Nice. I just bought my first macbook at 49 , an Air M3 ..I've always been a windows guy. This video confirms the exact issues I've always had with my Windows laptops. Power/heat/fans and battery life and overall reliability that it's going to power on if I haven't used it for a few days. I still have a gaming Windows desktop but having a laptop I can count on with battery life/silence and performance the M series air is killing anything windows and I still run Parallels/Windows 50 percent of the time on the AIr. I'll bet the M1 air could have been close or have beaten this XPS with those scores you have.
Damn, I'm glad I bought an air m3 15 16gb 512gb....it's a shame it doesn't have a better screen so it would be simply "PERFECT" I'm using my ipad pro 12.9 miniled to watch series because of the contrast and hdr issues with better color representation...but the rest...
Please, I'm also looking for interesting AI applications for photos, rescaling...etc... can you post some interesting ones?
And you no need to worry about any burnt-in risk 😉
It might be better to test the XPS againist the the M3 MBP
I would like to see Chromebook plus or gaming Chromebook vs MacBook Air.
Because I had a Chromebook it never died battery life
Hii Max, Should I buy M2 macbook air or m3? For my CSE Degree of 4 years?
not a big of a diference, but go for at least 16GB of ram or you're done.
if you don't have a big budget, go for the air M2 16GB 256GB, and that would work just fine.
but if you have >1500 dollars or maybe want to have 1 more year of OS update, then get the M3 (still 16GB of ram, that's important) cause thay only have 512GB storage version for the 16GB one, but with this price range, go get a discounted macbook pro m2 pro then.
Noting like comparing the highest end dell laptop with the entry level MacBook plus ram
You guys did not put up the numbers correctly for the web speedometer. You put the MBP at 19 and the Dell at 32 when the results were the exact opposite
Just moved back to Windows, as the Mac is just not an IT work station, was one of the most frustrating doorsteps I have used, glad I have a Dell Precision 5680 with easily a days battery life for my work, the previous mac book pro is a lab machine and youtube brick for my dad!
The colors of the display: Look at the black colors on the dell, it is not black at all more like a kind of grey or something. How is this possible??

The price of the laptops is also an important factor. 💵 ?

FYI: now that Intel (finally?) includes neural cores, the chip specs you list should include neural core counts.
Next do xps 16 4070 and macbook pro m3 please
At 8:45 one can see that the Intel CPU has 6 performance cores, 8 efficiency cores and 2 low power cores. It is amazing that 4 perf. and 4 efficiency cores in M3 are still able to stay only 9% behind while using probably only half of the power (not to speak about single core dominance).
Finally you being honest and disconnected them from power before running the benchmarks
There is a setting in the MacBook to reduce performance to conserve battery when unplugged (also an option to reduce screen brightness). You can turn it on or off. 🤫
Mic and camera on the M3 were definitely better. More warmth in camera and better audio fidelity in the lows and mid range. The Dell's mic seemed higher pitched.
Do people still buy those intels?
Compare it to macbook pro m3 pro based model 18gb unified memory and 512gb memory
How does mac perform in low power mode?
There is no low power mode pc laptops need this to get some sort of battery life
The macs have insanely good low power mode. U dont notice a hit in performance in day to day tasks and the battery life feels like it lasts twice as long
