The ZF8AP will be the new benchmark for HD Transmissions. ZF has used them for over a decade overseas in Medium Duty trucks. ZF has been testing the 8AP in a "Ram 3500" for almost 6 years now. Their are videos out there showing it in use.
Love your content. I own a small Roofing company 03,06,16,18 & Freightliner m2 dump truck all cummins fleet. I'm changing out a turbo actuator while listening to this video. I'm personally excited about a possible 8spd for the cummins!
PD, in my experience the 19+ 6.7s are really picky about oil. Cummins actually ships them with Valvoline 10W30 but almost all the shops in the midwest use T6 5W40. I forget what you run but we've seen the pushrod issues on trucks running T4 15W40 (19+ engines only). Also, when its really cold I advise people to run full synthetic. No babbit/lead in the main/rod bearings anymore (EPA) and there's slightly reduced clearance. Bottom line, when its cold the engine can't pump the 15W oil to the upper end, thus pushrod wear. I'd love to see the ZF 8spd behind the Cummins. Since the 8HP came out in the L body cars in 2011 we rarely see any failures across the entire product line. This includes TRX, Hellcat and Demon. The Aisin has also been great but having 1 more underdrive and overdrive gears sure would be nice in the hills. I hope you're right. Allegedly they announce some details sometime in April but it's usually been at the TX State Fair. I enjoy your videos. Wish you the best of luck!
It would be nice for them to fix the DPF issue also for 25 but I think that's an issue with the other brands as well not so much a Ram issue. Thanks for the video Paul.
Yeah I run Amsoil All in one Diesel fuel treatment winter months and Amsoil Diesel injector clean + cetane boost in the summer months and a extra 3oz of cetane boost at every fill up. My fuel mileage went up and my regens have decreased by 40% these Amsoil Diesel fuel supplements are rocking the diesel world. Your diesel produces less soot and more efficient combustion while keeping your fuel system and injectors clean and lubricated. I was told when I bought my Ram Cummins that the engine runs best when the fuel cetane level is at 55. Most diesel fuels in America run around 40 to 45 that's 10 points low. Amsoil cetane boost can increase your cetane 8pts. I'm telling you AMSOIL makes my Cummins run way better. Check out The Channel synthetic oil protection Eben Rockmaker runs it he's my Amsoil dealer tell Jon O referred you so he knows. You won't be disappointed!
@@concretejungle77 your welcome just been what I've experienced and all my emissions systems are intact. I'd rather spend little money to prevent catastrophic failure rather than do nothing then pay many thousands to repair it.

PD, I've been watching your content for a while now. I just bought a 2018 cummins and am having the ABS sensor (HCU and pump) issue. I know you have a couple 2018s so I was wondering if you dealt with this on any of your trucks. I know there is a class action for the 2017-2018s on this, and the part is backordered indefinitely, but do you have any experience with this?
You would do well making longer in depth videos on different subjects. I don’t own rams, don’t care about Ram, but still watch your videos start to finish for some reason
The new rumor is ZF transmission and only one engine in all HD’s. No more SO vs HO. Also another rumor that they will also be updating the cab as well.
If you crash a Volvo you can still open your door to get out, if you crash a Peterbilt or Freightliner you can use all the little pieces to make your casket.
Buy the nicest low mileage 4th gen you can find and take care of it religiously. I have a 2021 now but there's not a day that passes that I don't miss my 2017. Them 4th gens are the best trucks on the road.
ZF 8 speed isn't new to the RAM HD's trucks. That's what they put behind the 6.4L Hemi since 2019/2020. But can they make one to handle the torque of the Cummins without detuning the engine during use, or as you said torque management.,
the ZF powerline 8 speed is a completely different transmission than what's in the 6.4L.... The only thing they have in common is there both 8 speed and made by ZF.
everyone acts like All ZF transmissions r the exact same.. there is NO way that tranny could hold the torque... not even the hellcat 8hp95 tranny can handle the 1100-1500 torque that these trucks will have in a few years.... whatever transmission it is will be ALL new
I looked up the ZF powerline. While the new tranny could be different the specs i saw says its capable of 1000 lb ft input torque..under management. as far as future proofing. For reference The aisin is probably rated at 850-950 input.
for years you talk about the issues with these trucks to help us but why do you never mention the crap grid heater bolt which has destroyed thousands of Ram Truck engines
I don’t know if it’s true but I heard only the 6.7s getting sold to ram have the hydraulic lifters. Like the CP4 and the botched fuel filtration system in the late 3rd gen’s it seems chrysler is the source of all these fuck ups.
and i think cummins cant go to their 8.3 design bcuz of weight but they might bore the cummins i dont think they can stroke it but who knows at the end of the day maybe they r looking at new solutions as far as hyrdrogen and hybrid texh but they can bore to 8.3 if they wanted

My 19 is doing well 389k now. Only clean egr valve/ intake heater. Dealer recall on my cp4 to cp3 at no charge
68 or Aisin? Dpf intact? The mileage is impressive 👍
That right there I'd the difference between ford and ram. When ram has a problem they actually take care of the customer.
It would be nice for them to fix the DPF issue also for 25 but I think that's an issue with the other brands as well not so much a Ram issue. Thanks for the video Paul.
Definitely needs a doser injector

When will you do a video addressing the recall? Or did I miss it? Been waiting for your insights on this.
Can you please link the press release from Cummins that you talked about in the begging of the video? Talking about parts suppliers and such.

Im thinking ZF replacing the 68RFE and Aisin 8 speed in the HO. Just my guess.
I’ve heard ZF could be replacing the 68RFE. I doubt the Aisin is getting replaced. Especially in the 4500-5500 trucks
I have heard the 68 is going away.
@@aaronkelley8909yea there's no reason for them to keep making that one transmission for one small application

@Lq32332 it's not a rumor because the zf powerline is announced and public knowledge
What’s the deal with frames bending on new Cummins trucks
Did I miss something so the failure was metallurgical in the rockers? Did Cummins bullet proof the 6.7 then?

The only question is, do I buy a 4th gen 3500 or wait for the 2025s...

Stay with the AISIN no matter what, trust me.
An article was released a week ago that ZF is building the replacement for the 68rfe
X15 Cummins in the big rigs are career Enders here
Most Pete’s and kw with x15 have full in frames done with less then 300,000km

Are the heavy duty’s really going to the dial shifter as well?
You already have the dial shifter and the zf 8 speed behind the gas hog models
I hope not
Would like to see content on the semis if you’re up for it
so, i was hearing 2025 Diesel was not going to be sold in Washington, Oregon, California, Cummis coming out with 6.7 GAS for these three states
Well technically zf has already been supplying transmissions for the hd rams
is a ram 2023 engines ok ? did they fix?
My god I’m 6.5 minutes in and we’re just now getting to any info
Cummings needs to up the HP for 2025 . Well at least i hope they do
I’m certain Ram will have more torque than Ford like you said. They can’t stay in second place long.
I promise you, Chrysler choose to go back to the CP3, not Cummins.
That's what I heard as well, from a Cummins employee.
