  • Here is the 1960s Made-In-Japan Crown Melody Coins Transistor Radio Bank in Action. Picking up an AM signal in my basement.
Basically, you put a coin in the slot which completes a connection and turns the radio on. There is an OFF button that allows the coin to pass through the slot and into the bank. You gotta pay to play.

I have one of these radios. Does yours take AA or 9V batteries? The battery compartment of mine says it takes 4AA batteries but the compartment is outfitted with a 9V connector. Weird.

I stand corrected from my earlier reply. It has what looks to be a 9V connector, but that plugs into a plastic housing that holds 4 AAs.

The radio takes 4 AA bateries. The AA holder in the orginal radio had the 9 volt connection at the top of the battrey holder. I was able to pick up a replacement at a local electronics store for less than $2.00.
