This is one of my favorite songs CoF has done. Thank you for the excellent analysis, I missed some of the metaphors when I broke it down myself.

Awesome analasys, I'm poetically illiterate, so your channel is a priceless resource for one of my FAVOURITE bands and contemporary poets, Daniel Filth. Keep up you're brilliant work. You're a clever clever metalhead, thank goodness for you. Hahah

Very interesting pick for a song to break down and making an analysis out of it. Thornography has a lot of bangers and I still don't know why Cradle fans have to throw hate to it because that record has a cool concept and the pace of it is different yet amazing.
You did a great job on this one because it is a very underrated song.

I agree! I also don't understand why people dislike this album. I love it! It has some excellent songs. Not only this one, but also Tonight in Flames, Under Huntress Moon and Lovesick for Mina.

this was the last CoF album I enjoyed, only because of the refusal to accept change, not because the music was bad.
yet they still remain my favorite band for the last 20 years. almost every memorable moment has a connection with a CoF song.

Great analysis! I instantly thought of your character Yngvar or Ivar when you described the Byronic hero!! His deep and dangerous romantic relationship is with Eyolf / Ulf!
Now to think of Yngvar as Tamerlane,
Eugene, Jay Gatsby, and all the other characters you mentioned…it would be cool to see him dressing as them as a nod to the fact they are all Byronic characters!
This song has such great lyrics expanding on the concept of the Byronic hero! The part about Mad Caliban is interesting, since this shows a very different side from many of the Byronic heroes we have talked about, including Yngvar himself.

Thank you for the awesome comment! Great observations!
Yes, looking at my characters, it's clear that I love Byronic heroes 😁 (Yngvar is one, definitely, both in Lucky Wolf and Equilibrium. It's interesting to construct such a character in both the medieval and the modern setting! And that's a great idea 😁
Maybe I'll analyse some of those characters in more detail and one point (I have a lot to say about Turin and Phantom in particular).

    Brilliant analysis!
The Crow against the virgin snow I'd actually read literally, however, black against pure white. It bears resemblance to the black sheep if you will. No matter what the poet does, he will always stand out. At least that's my take on it. Not everything must have a deeper, metaphorical meaning...
Or maybe I just misunderstood you because I'm tired. 😂
Love your analysis, as always. Thanks ❤️

Thank you very much! And for sharing your ideas, too.
That's a good observation, I didn't think of it as "standing out"! And it fits really well in the context of that verse where he's described socially, compared to others. He's definitely proud of standing out! But I still stick to the idea that there's a metaphor because of the description of the snow as "virgin", so he's placed in antithesis with something that is "untouched" (which made me connect it to the line "dangerous to know" and to the following stanza which exemplifies this).
But yes, there's always the trap of reading too much into poetry, especially that of Dani's who loves double meaning.

Would you consider doing one for The Seductiveness Of Decay? I interpret Cryptoriana as concept political allegory and this track in particular made me think of it in this way, would love to hear your thoughts on it.
