    I loved being on a ship. So much so, I rejoined the Navy 14 years after I got out. It was a wonderful experience and adventure both as a young guy and as an older dude.

    i'm going to MEPS in a week, and my desired rate CWT (previously CTN), has no sea/shore rotation, so if im not mistaken there are definitely some rates that will never step foot on a ship. I do agree with you though, the Navy is called the Navy for a reason lol.

      There's only about 600 CWTs according to Navy COOL, and even some of them have shipboard duty. I hope your career goes well!

      @@That_1_Collector He was a Lieutenant Commander LCDR. He mostly was in a mobile army surgical hospital just like "M*A*S*H". But when things got chaotic it wasn't uncommon for him to be treating wounded Marines in the field with combat going on not too far away. When he came home he worked in a military hospital until he left the NAVY. He passed away in 2018 and was laid to rest with full military honors at Bay Pines National Cemetery

    I get seasick to the point of incapacitation. So I joined the Army in 1981. That, as it turned out, had its own set of issues.

    Hey I’m entering to the Navy as an MA; I ship out next month and was just curious if you had any advice/tips on how to be selected for Harbor Patrol/Riverine. I also know that nothing is promised in the Navy. Thanks!

      Get class 2 swimmer in A school. There are several chances at getting it. Even after you get to a command, you can get class 2 swimmer and transfer to harbor. Here, a friend got harbor orders and was given training and experience here before going to his next command.

    I just signed for FC, ship date is the 7th of November. I was contacted by a Nuclear Coordinator to try testing for a Nuke job, I test Tuesday. The only thing I don’t want is to be on a Sub, but I know there is a good chance of it and have accepted that fact

      Well hey, on a sub they get the best food and a special warfare device. It's a great community. Nukes work very hard but have amazing civilian world prospects. Hope it all goes well for ya!

    I remember my recruiter saying that she spent a relatively small time at sea and thinking why this would be a selling point but I guess she must have been having problems getting recruits for this reason
    but hey now I'm at power school and am gonna try to get on the Jimmy Carter which has one of the highest op tempos in the fleet as being on a ship was never a problem for me

    Does MA require secret clearance? What if I have some debts?
    I noticed I may be disqualified and if that happens I don't want to be stuck in a rate I don't like

    • @HaedenBeck
      @HaedenBeck  3 місяці тому

      You need a secret clearance, it comes automatically as long as you pass the background checks. Debts aren't a problem unless you're selected to guard nuclear weapons, then it will disqualify you from those orders.

    If you hate paperwork and checklists don't go in the Air Force. I was in the Navy but worked on several contracts for the Air Force as a civilian after getting out of the Navy and the redundancy of their documentation on everything is insane.

    If your on land why is it counted as a sea rotation

    • @HaedenBeck
      @HaedenBeck  9 місяців тому

      It's weird, I know. For MAs we're needed to guard bases, which of course are on land. That's where the bulk of the work is, and our duties on ships are usually extra duties for other ratings. There are MAs on ships but they don't stand all the watches. For this reason, probably among others, there are commands on land that are counted as sea.

    • @Jerry-OSBB
      @Jerry-OSBB 9 місяців тому

      Overseas tours is what they are. Essentially if you are serving overseas either on land or aboard ship it is counted the same as per regulations and for each year you are awarded a ribbon (1) and consequent star(s) that are applied to the ribbon.

    • @HaedenBeck
      @HaedenBeck  9 місяців тому

      If you are drafted yes you can either go to war or go to jail. But the last military draft was over 50 years ago during Vietnam and it is likely there will never be another one because it would be political suicide for the political party that is in power.
