Lets is know if you have any questions.
I really appreciate both of your efforts! I'm a young retiree 48, ex-military and I'm tired of being broke and looking out the window here in the United States. Meanwhile, my pension would in some ways make me look and allow me to live like I'm a rich person abroad. Way back in 1996, I spent 2 months in Malaysia in KL, US Embassy duty and I absolutely loved it. In fact, I reconnected with a friend who is Malay from KL and I'm thinking this is my year to spread my wings again, so your channel is really helping me get my bearings.
If you like city life, KL is top shelf. Plus it is a great hub to see the world from. Great cheap flights.
Agree looking at KL myself. Also fellow Marine. Good luck
Mike and James..welcome to KL
Need company ? ๐
Welcome to KL...huhu๐๐๐๐โโ๏ธ๐ฒ๐พ
For me personally:
For Single Man: Philippines (ENGLISH Enough Said) Thailand Cambodia Vietnam Indonesia Malaysia
For Couples: Vietnam Philippines Indonesia Malaysia Thailand Cambodia
Favorite Country to Retire: I LOVE Philippines
Thanks for sharing.
Hi I'm interested to know your reasons for saying for couples vietnam is best? I'm planning to go to vietnam with my wife soon so I'm very keen on hearing your reply!
Great comparisons again
I love your experiences in South East Asia and intrigued on what you say. I have posted a few times on your videos because your recommendations are awesome. I haven't been to Vietnam and Cambodia but Vietnam is on my bucket list. From my own travel experiences in Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand, Malaysia is definitely the most suitable for me, then Thailand (especially Bangkok and Southern parts), then Indonesia, and Philippines the least suitable but I would still live there because I do rate it highly and their beaches' are out of this world
Thank you Brother SMan! Your interactions help our channel grow! Have a great day. :-) Dan
In Hanoi Vietnam my daughter was very sick and it was recommended we go to the best hospital in town and it was a French hospital but to see the doctor and get a prescription for some medicine cost us$130. The best hospitals I have ever seen where in Bangkok and Chiang Mai.
Thanks for sharing Peter.
Private hospitals in Thailand are super. University public hospitals as in Khon Kaen & Chiang Mai great.
Thailand is still the best
One thing I have to add, youโre never gonna find such an easy going, appreciative, more caring, feminine, smart, loyal woman for a wife or girlfriend like you have now, in any western country, especially in English speaking countries.
And I say this as someone who loves being a bachelor. You just donโt find the sweetness and kindness in western women that you do in Asia and many other non-western cultures.
Great information, thank you! I'll be spending most of my time in the Philippines (I think) for the next 2 years, but based on your assessment I'll probably take periodic trips to KL for dental care.
Have fun!
Bangkok has great dental too. My Bangkok retire cheap report has links to my dentist.
1. Just think of SE Asia as one country. The major cities are connected by low cost carriers. Good accomodation and good food at low prices.
2. Because of different official languages, religions and culture, SE Asia is very diverse. Just cross a border, the architecture, fashion and food changes considerably. More like Europe.
3. Hopefully domestic transport within each country in SE Asia improves drastically. And the major cities be served by skytrains /MRT/LRT. And the other infrastructure as a whole also improves considerably.
4. As a Malaysian, I dream the day when I can buy properties in 2 to 3 other SE Asian countries. And enjoy my retirement in SE Asia, moving from one property to another throughout the year.
Great idea. I love rotating around SE Asia. I also love spending time in Mexico, Central America, and South America. Plus, Eastern Europe is super cool too from Turkey up to Estonia.
This is great thinking! I think all of those countries are also friendly.
I am from New York City but living in Saigon the past 30 years being retired the last 10 years. I remain perfectly happy here being married to a Vietnamese lady who I met in New York in 1976 and married in 1977 and still married. We bought a condo in a really nice project with the rent savings already paying the cost of the unit. We have no property taxes and everything is so reasonable price. I have been to all countries you mention and also Myanmar and find all countries in the region interesting, friendly, safe and live-able but prefer staying exactly where I am. I really love this part of the world.
Thank you for this video. It is great getting information about SE Asian countries from seasoned travelers like you.
Thanks David!
This comparison supports a number of others I've heard that compared only 2 countries in each video. You laying out favorable differences between all these at once is very helpful. Thank you.
Thank you!
Absolutely love the adventures guys, thanks for all you do!
Well done, guys! Dan, you're obviously head over heels towards Qiang. You just gape at her! And I notice that you agree with her almost 100% of the time - haha. Which is good. Qiang's a smart and thrifty girl - getting to the movie theater before noon and expenses down to the 25cents. And a lot of good input from her... All in all, terrific information for an upcoming expat like me. Thanks.
Hello Jake Taylor, thank you for your personal note of encouragement. It really does make a difference for us when we know people appreciate what we are doing. Your comments also cause UA-cam to show our video to more people so your note is like paying us a small tip $$ for our time. Thank you, Dan
Nice video! For the most part you are right on. I think one important aspect about traveling is transportation. To get around the city or fly around to the islands. In this case I would pick Thailand, the ease of getting around by public transportation via sky train, subway, or rent a scooter if you are in one of the islands.
True. Hard to beat transportation in Bangkok. Scooters are cheap everywhere though. :-)
Thailand is the best and will stay the best
The most beautiful people too
We L๐ve our ASEAN countries, All of them have unique beauty... Frm PH.
Lovely people ASEAN countries. Smiles for miles.
Even though this is 2 years old, I learned alot and thank you so much for doing this and awakening me to new possibilities! May you two be blessed, safe, healthy, prosperous and great! God or Source bless all of us! Yes, Si, Oui, Oo (tagalog/philipino for YES) Nuff Said!
You forgot the "people", Philippines hands down is the friendliest. The Philippine hospitality. Very warm hearted people and 90 percent of population speak English.
Great point. Love the Filipinos. :-)
Another super, knowledgeable video! Thank you. My wife and I have a house in Seremban. She is from Malaysia and I am from the US. Hope we get to meet you sometime! I don't care for fried food, so I am thinking the vegetarian food in Bali would be better. Which do you think is better for vegetarian, raw foods, some baked but NOT fried: Thailand or Bali?
Ubud in Bali.
I came across your channel 2 days ago, after I was watching other vloggers about Philippines. I was born there but now live in the USA. Thanks for all the wonderful information you shared! โค๏ธ
Welcome back!
Very nice discussion! I also think the Philippines has beautiful beaches, specifically the crystal clear water is very attractive. So it has a beautiful and rich Flora as well as sea-related Fauna. However I think the Fauna in the air and on land is somewhat limited in the Philippines; you rarely see different or special birds, there are nearly no monkeys, etc. Have you noticed this as well? I feel Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia have a much richer Fauna in the air and on land .
Yes, true. But they all have more than most of the rest of the world.
I lived in Thailand for two years and found the noise can really become irritating. Not just from traffic, but also from parking lots where every attendant has a whistle he loves to blow; loud music that blares on the streets, in restaurants and pretty much all public places; and other sources. I found it very hard to find a peaceful, quite place. Are the other Asian countries the same way?
What city did you live in the Thailand? Where you close-in to the center or out in the countryside? That is as big a factor as country.
@@VagabondAwake Cities, mostly. big and small. But all of them had the same culture of loud music in stores and restaurants (and even streets), parking attendants constantly whistling even when someone is just pulling in, and more. I think it's more cultural than related to big or small cities. Was wondering if it's the same everywhere in Asia.
Love your channel , gives everyone watching great ideas for travelling to find that special place ๐๐
Warm greetings from Los Angeles! Thank you Quiang Hui & Dan for putting together this episode. The health care topic was most beneficial to me, I think is crucial to cover & perhaps next time cover โbest global travel insuranceโ available. Thanks Dan for the prompt reply on healthcare. I actually watched that episode after this one ๐ & if you plan to produce an episode covering travel with a purpose/giving back to the locals that you visit, eco/green regions I would certainly watch it. Stay well & healthy guys! Peace โ๏ธ
You guys look like such a nice happy couple. I really enjoyed your video it was very enlightening and helpful. Thanks
Thanks so much! ๐
Great vids! Was wondering if you folks actually have a "home" base anywhere and travel from there. Or do it true vagabond style - wherever the wind takes you? (Also, if you do have a "home" base... which country is it?
I am from the USA but haven't lived there since 2007. Qiang is from Malaysia but hasn't lived there since October of 2017. We do not keep empty beds anywhere in the world. We move forward except when we visit family.
Cambodia ๐ฐ๐ญ it's more frontier like going back in time the wild west were you can do what you want to do !
That seems right to me.
I feel much more relaxed after watching this video, thanks.
You're welcome ๐
Very helpful. Love the Q&A style. Where in the countries you had mentioned have the best weather?
Good question! The reports have a section on weather.
The Philippines when you first arrive you have to have a flight showing your leaving within 30 days so most people get a throw away ticket and then extend your visa month after month but you do need to show when you arrive you have a flight out before the nd of the initial visa.
That is correct. You just need an onward flight upon arrival not at each visa extension.
What do you mean by throwing away ticket?
In Georgia, Eastern Europe, you get a one year visa anytime you visit. Cannot beat that.
True. Thanks for sharing Kevin.
All country in SEA are great. But if u wanna travel between all the SEA i would suggest to stay in malaysia because its in the centre of the SEA. And its home to worlds largest budget airlines AirAsia. U can travel easily and cheap from there.
That is all true. One of my favorites too!
Hi Guys, nice comparative info in this video. What was not mentioned tho was language. I'm sure the Philippines would probably be the easiest for English speakers as it is the second language there. But what about Malaysia, Vietnam and Cambodia? What are the language barriers like and how severe are they? Thanks.
If you are looking for an English speaking place to live Philippines and Malaysia would be good choices. Cambodia also has many English speakers in tourist areas and larger cities. Vietnam we were using Google Translate more often, but it also has English speakers here and there in the larger cities and tourist areas.
Hi , enjoy your informative videos so much. Before the lockdown my property in Central America had a sales contract, however we were stopped before we could get things done. My plan before the virus was to move to Chiang Mai as it tiks so many of my desires, however recently there have been quite a few racial comments on social media about Thailand not wanting any more white farangs. I am now thinking Malaysia. I am a retired artist, single,
good food is important, apartment rental , or cottage, around 700 per month, walking to markets and restaurants, want good medical and dental, also want to volunteer at animal shelters. Not crazy about high rises. Penang or KL? Was in Malaysia many years ago and loved it. Preference of Thailand is because I want to study Buddhism. Any comments?
Mostly it i provocative politicians, The Thai people are lovely in my experience. I would explore both and then decide. Stay out of Chang Mai during the burn season. Fenruary they burn the crops instead of til the soil.
I appreciate this comparison. Two common retirement destinations with similarities. I think Mexico has a more diverse climate. From the beaches ( humid ) to the central highlands ( no central heat no central air). Though I have never been to the Philippines. Tell me if I am off base on that one...๐ด
Yes. More diverse weather in Mexico. Many cities a mile or more high in the sky. vagabondbuddha.com/mexicos-best-colonial-era-cities-to-retire-early-for-cheap/
Vietnam. Just came back from South East Asia visiting all those countries. Definitely Vietnam.. But their all great!
what made you prefer Vietnam?
Very cool Christine. How long were you there?
Mainly the street food and the authenticity of the culture because it has not been as open to tourists for as long as say .. Thailand. It feels more like an adventure?
@@VagabondAwake I travelled for 18 months. Spent 3 months in Vietnam. North to south.. loved it...
You should visit Palawan too and Davao, I watched lots of foreign vloggers that are now living in Makati. Like Mike and Nelly, and Juicy vlog. Iโm sort of shopaholic, so, I love watching Makati or Cebu as well. My husband just retired working for the government in Washington D. C... I wish I could convince him to retire in the Philippines in luxury. He has a good retirement income. Iโm not retired yet, but I can retire early. My children are independent now. ๐๐ต๐ญ๐บ๐ธ๐ฆ๐บ
Thanks for sharing your story Belinda.
I know you like to continue a journey traveling. I'm more of a move and settle type of person. What county, if you had to chose one, would be the best for taxes, cost, visa and health care? I'm from the US and thinking about retirement elsewhere. Thank you for your time and your education videos.
For scuba diving itโs Palau, hands down. For snorkeling, probably the PI.
Thanks for adding valie to the community!
Hey, chaps. Iโve lived or visited all those places. Iโm not sure what โbestโ means - itโs usually cheapest for me - but Iโll have a shot:
Just one point: you didnโt mention language barrier which might be important for English speakers. For me, the Phillipines is really easy, followed by Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam at the bottom.
1) street food, accommodation - Vietnam. We live on egg baguette (Banh mi op la) and iced coffee (cafe sua da). About $1 for breakfast. We pay $130 + $40 for electricity in a house share close to the beach and mountains. (Nha Trang). Beer and other alcohol is the cheapest Iโve encountered anywhere in the world.
2) nightlife - itโs a close one between Jakarta and Manila. Jakarta probably wins for me but I was single at the time and thatโs a factor. Indonesians seem to be more fun loving though. Less calculating.
3) health care is hard to say. Phillipines is dirt cheap. Vietnam is awesome. Bangkok is bloody expensive now. In Cambodia you can get any medicines at a pharmacy without a prescription. No idea about Malaysia since I didnโt get sick there or need anything medicinal. I generally use public healthcare since Iโm a cash customer. In Vietnam, I could afford some private facilities.
Right now, Vietnam wins for the best budget choice. It might be even cheaper because weโre in a tourist area with no foreign tourists due to covid19. Our only frustration is the language barrier and lack of international online shopping which is difficult.
Thanks for time and thoughtful comments Martin. :-)
Have you tried Lazada for online shopping? Has a lot of goods on there, takes awhile to find what you want though.
In Vietnam for 4 years and buy food clothes and household goods online from Shopee and Lazada almost every week. Online shopping is huge here.
I'm going to put this in a spreadsheet. Very useful.
That's a good idea. I hope you'll share it.
Glad it was helpful!
It's very nice to hear you both with sometimes different views. Please do more videos like this :)
Thank you! Will do!
Friendliness โ Philippines ๐ต๐ญ is the best ๐ค
Gods children live here.
Besides friendliness and english spoken most places, everything else is less appealing, food, infrastructure, safety. Even to buy two tablets of tylenol its twice the price than Thailand not a whole strip or a box. Phil is good for vacation but for long term. Iโll take Thailand, Penang or Vietnam anytime over this place.
I know Thailand is the best place in all of Asia
The Philippines is the worst
Even they have great beaches and can speak some English
Food is dangerous in the Philippines pre cooked not save to eat
@@blackjackamsterdam7075 Oh yeah you are right, because in Thailand foods are clean .the wet market is full of flies and uncovered cooked food displays very close where the cars passing by and really they wash the food properly before cooking them and come to think of this ,they use a lot of msg and a lot of oil just to cook Scrabble egg
Excellent!! Thank you both.

Even in KL, western food is abysmal.. but local food is fantastic. For cheap & decent western food, itโs the Philippines
Philippines is way cheaper for expat food. But I would say KL has better and cheaper local food by far, on that we agree. :-)
I used to spend months at a time in KL on business and we went to a different restaurant every nightโฆ Asian food was always amazing (even Thai & Viet) but Western food was almost never authentic and disappointed (except Italian - surprisingly, quite a few authentic places). So for authentic Western food in Malaysia, stick to the chains like Chiliโs, Nandoโs, etc.
So most affordable choice between your listed countries for solo female, and good medical care. Which one would you suggest as #1?
Thailand and Malaysia have the best medical car. You should visit both and decide which is your cup of tea.
we are good. nice reply, TY. Still, be aware your surroundings. As I said, the Police are a joke, and yes, not all there fault.
Just very easy to disappear there. Again, I would still recommend to avoid any fried foods! The cooking oil is the worst. Trans fat at is best...Now to my recommendations, if you not of seen the places I know of. Your GF will certainly enjoy and love you more. BUT, of course I do not know travel and restrictions there. These are all from Cebu I travelled from. Malapascua Island. About 1 hour van ride to the pier to take the boat to there. Spend the night, beautiful there. Take the tour trip from there to Kalanggaman Island next day. 500 pesos. About 1 to 1:15 hour boat ride to the island from Madapascua island which includes lunch, each way. wear sunblock! I got so burnt. Magical place with a huge pure sand, sand bar. Very cool, beautiful. Separate trip from Cebu, go to Oslob. See, swim with the whale sharks. Your GF will so love it, especially the photographs they will take of her underwater with the whale shark as she touches one. ITS SAFE. That ride to there is by bus, about 2 to 2.5 hours from Cebu. Toilet is a must before this ride, there are no stops unless they changed it. Very nice all coastal sight seeing ride. We spent the night there.....ok buddy....I do like your channel and I still considering your advice to just rent out my home instead of sell it. Just to me, the housing market up here Seattle has exploded. If I sold, I can live like a king comfortably anywhere there with a pile of money and my nice pension Im receiving, and not worry anything of renters to my home.
To me, I love Thailand. Sorry, the food, the costs, the adventure, the people. I don't think they even know how to be not honest in Thailand. My opinion and experience's. I like the Philippines too. Oh my god the girls I have met and still know there. LOL, so sexy and beautiful. You meet one, next thing you know, you got her friends, her sisters, cousins. Wow, serious fun. and these are not plain girls. These are dream girls. So, I kind of disagree on finding only one woman. But, hey, eventually I will.....I should make a youtube channel and introduce 1 new dream girl a week. lol.....anyways, take care and Im sure I will contact you sometime in the future with a question. Vietnam I must visit now, thanks to you......
Very thoughtful of you to share such detail Mark. Thank you. I pasted it into our todo list when the borders open. :-)
Philippines tourist visa up to 3 years on visa extensions. Thailand only 90 days. Malaysia 5 months. Indonesia 2 months.
Thanks for sharing Paul. Best, Dan
Great, I'm going to visit all. thanks for another excellent adventure guys, much appreciated!

A very well spoken Chinese/Malay lady thanks for the video
Yes. Qiang is a gem.
I still have to know the Philippines, but among the 3 others I would rank Thailand higher then Malaysia on everything, except for the visa. The people, the culture, the food (the best street food with Vietnam). Of course we can't consider politics...
I couldn't agree more Hammock Yucatan. They are all so great it is hard to go wrong. More of a personal preference. Thanks for commenting. UA-cam grows our channel faster when people comment! So we really appreciate it! Best, Dan

Thank you for the channel. Which country is the easiest to obtain a retirement visa for a Canadian/Danish citizen. I am thinking $1000-1200 month all in. Is Thailand the $24000 in bank account youre in?
Joe Patroni, Do you mean Philippines? Although Visa rules can change at anytime, so you have to do your own research on this. But at the time I wrote the below report, here is why we decided to not get a retirement visa in the Philippines. The short story is that if you are from the visa free countries, you can extend your tourist for up to 36 months. Here are the details at the time we did the research:

Guys, since you have been in Dumaguete, which area of the town is good to live at? Good neighborhood and affordable. Thank you for your time.
If you are single you may want to go out at night more so Dumaguete central. If you are in a relationship when you arrive you might like Valencia better. Valencia is a little cooler because it is 8km up the Volcano. Thanks for commenting Simply. It helps our business grow. Best, Dan
Vagabond Awake thanks Dan. Iโm moving there once allowed to fly.
Pretty late to your channel but really appreciate your knowledge. Currently leaning toward Thailand to retire to in regards to food, infrastructure, medical quality, street food. Looking at West Coast. Hua Hin or Prachuap Khiri Khan. Not into touristy places

Great video guys - thanks for that! Very informative. Only makes decisions more difficult about which country to stay long term. Guess I'll do what you guys are doing and variate. As a Brit I'd love to stay in Vietnam for 3 months but only 30 days visas issued from now on. Technically I'd have zoomed in a touch (too much headroom) - just saying! Stay safe!
Well said! Nobody knows what the Visa rules are right now anywhere. I have heard from people in Vietnam that say they are not doing visa runs every 30 days. So double check your facts on that one before you decide based upon that information.
Definitely just wait until Vietnam opens the country to foreigners again. Visa regulations change every year. One would think they will be more liberal with time limits, with tourism way down.
Great information. Thanks. I live in California but have traveled to SE Asia several times so I'm familiar with the popular areas. I'm looking for a good place to have as a base camp for a few years and be able to easily fly all over SE Asia? Bangkok and KL are the most obvious answers but is there a place I'm missing?
Thanks. If you don't want to travel too far to catch flights, those two are the best. Then there are regional airports like Penang in Malaysia, or Chiang Mai or Phuket in Thailand that you can connect to many places or get a connection anywhere via Bangkok or KL.
@@VagabondAwake I am very curious about Panang and need to check it out. Recently, I've been attracted to Thailand because of its low cost of living, ease of travel and it does not have an oppressive religious environment. But over the last few years, it has been inudadanted with tourist, losing some of its charm, so I'm having second thoughts. Since Panang has a high ethnic Chinese population and hopefully no CCP, it has a lot of potential. Enjoy PI. Way too much drama back in the States.

Where would you live as a single guy with a $4000 USD per month Budget. I sold my home, and ready to move to Southeast Asia. Covid 19 has messed my plans up. I was in the Philippines, and Thailand for the winter. I really don't care for the Philippines. I do enjoy diving. I am really looking for my home base. Great job!
The best part is the journey. You have to pick a few and do an investigative tour. Here are my top picks for SE Asia. ua-cam.com/video/ja1_tCP9TFo/v-deo.html
You have convinced my wife and I to travel around SE Asia and South America before picking a retirement spot. Another travel vlogger uses travel health insurance called Safety Wings. Do you use travel health insurance ? We will be 62 and 57 when we retire and we are pretty healthy. We have money in retirement accounts but would LOVE to leave that alone to grow and live off my $2000/mo social security check. We would like to self insure for almost everything but wonder if there may be some type of catastrophic insurance that would cover something big...especially since we wont qualify for medicare for many years. Thanks for all you do !
That sounds like one I read about. But I am not sure. Check to see if the cover cancer? If not, that is why I didn't buy it. Otherwise I like their plan if it is who I think it is.
Thanks, Guys ya"ll do a great Job !!

One of my concerns is the food. I think that the Philippines has a lot of positives, but I love Thai/Vietnamese food. What are your thoughts, please?
I agree. Thai and Vietnamese are the best food in SE Asia. I am vegetarian so the Filipino diet leaves something to be desired. Luckily I can cook.
Philippines has the worst food.
The Philippine has the worst food no doubt.
Good foods are cooked at home here in the Philippines not on the streets.
The Phillipines is definitely not a foodies country you have to eat at western restaurants to get a decent feed !

Good video to point out highlights per country based on livability factors
Glad you liked it
Thanks for your info and videos. What about the cost of general living. Eg groceries, power, internet, mobile plans.
This was an overview. There is slightly more detail in our retire cheap reports. vagabondbuddha.com/
Where is the cheapest diving ? Country and name of the place?
Be willing to hunt and bargain when you arrive for best prices:
Roatan, Honduras
Corn Islands, Nicaragua
Sipadan Island, Malaysia
Koh Tao, Thailand
Thank you for very informative video! BTW, my experience in a Hong Kong hospital was pretty positive.
Hong Kong is probably in top 20 in the world? What happened and what did you pay in the end?
@@VagabondAwake I had dinner at a very posh restaurant outside Cebu City, set on a couple acres overlooking the city. Had the shrimp cocktail with the filet. Food poisoning. Got pulled off the plane the next day in Hong Kong. Did not cost me a penny and I even tried to pay them! Developed a taste for Congee soup out of the deal!
Thailand ๐น๐ญ
Malaysia ... You can eat all sorts of food there
The World's food is in KL. :-)
Just found you guys, great info and you have a charming style๐
Welcome aboard!
Hey, great topics! I'm here in Thailand now, but I might very well be somewhere else in a few years. Malaysia seems to get a lot of love from you two... lol
Yes. Malaysia is not for everyone but we sure love it.
Which country has the best and cheapest internet in the home and on the phone?
Probably Vietnam.
Hi I am Joe from Indianapolis. You both have me convinced I need to travel to all of those destinations and perhaps even retire to one. I am 60, single and have been working from home since March. How are the internet connections generally? Any issues with internet security? I may need to convince my employer working from Southeast Asia would be just as secure as working from my living room. I appreciate all of your videos. They are great for someone like me at my age!!
If consistent sstrong reliable connectivity is required in your work, I would lean more towards Vietnam, Thailand, or Malaysia. Thanks for commenting. It helps our business get better. Thanks for subscribing too! Best, Dan
Vietnam has very good internet connection and Philippine has the worst connection of all the countries compared.
Do it Joe! Even in Saigon internet goes slow sometimes due to undersea cable issues. You can always go to one of dozens of 24 hour co-working spaces for higher rates. You can use a VPN here unlike in Red China. Hope you are a night owl, 12 hour difference from Central daylight savings time.
In Order to find the Cheap high rise apartment rental for 25$ a night What renting platform/app do you use in Kuala Lumpur ?

My best friend is from the Philippines, and we plan to retire there in about 7 years, but I've been apprehensive about the idea of having something like heart surgery there? After watching this video, maybe getting international health coverage, the private Malaysian hospitals would honor, and just pay cash for common stuff in the Philippines? If anyone has a better idea, please comment? Thanks again guys!
I have thought the same thing before.
you almost have to redo this, and so many other videos post-pandemic. travel and costs have changed since covid-19 shut down much of the world for a couple years. and i would be interested to see a redo of old places, new again.
Vietnam, unfortunately, does not offer a retirement visa for expats. You can do visa runs on tourist visas but this is proving to be more difficult as they are tightening restrictions. Interested to know if you have any other ideas! Thanks.
Thanks for sharing. The world is in transition during the corona virus. We will see what happens when they need the foreign money again to recover their economy. You can't go at all right now, anywhere.
Thanks guys, very useful perspectives... I am looking for a city to bring 10-20 programmers to work for 1-2 months. I think I'm down to BKK, CNX and KUL... food wise I love Thailand.
Hard to beat the food in Thailand Horace. :-) Dan
Great positive content!! Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
Smart lady, Lucky guy:) Lucky lady, Smart guy:) Great video. No BS

Which is the safest as walking during the night, visiting cities boroughs, villages, etc...
I believe they are all safe if you have your wits about you. You have to pay attention to your surroundings and never get isolated. Same applies anywhere in the world.
IMO, Vietnam hands down the safest.
Singapore then Indonesia, for murder. Fun list of Intentional Homicides by country. www.indexmundi.com/facts/indicators/VC.IHR.PSRC.P5/rankings
Too many variables to answer. What kind of safety? Robbery? Violence? City shopping district? Tourist area? Red light zone? On motorbike? Poisonous snakes or NPA (same thing) lurking about?
Do you guys happen to know if there are any track and field stadiums or 400m running tracks in Malaysia that are open to the public, either for free entry or payment of a small fee? In Singapore there are so many, but when I visited Malaysia, the two stadiums I went to were locked during the day with security out the front who would not allow me to enter for training purposes.
Sorry, I am not familiar with that. :-/
Thanks. Nice video. Is there an agency to get letter before entering Vietnam?
Qiang Hui covers that here: hoboventures.com/how-to-get-vietnam-visa-on-arrival-1-month-and-3-months-voa-letter/
Also "vietnam visa support group" on Facebook, bunches of visa agents
Thank you the visa topic is the biggest issue for me, from what I've read Vietnam is the easiest except the phillipines a country I don't like the expats, all the sex tourism, so maybe Vietnam for me, Indonesia is tough
Thanks for sharing your thoughts John.
Got Rabies shots for cycling Indonesia, but the only time I've been seriously threatened by a dog was in the US. Not in your list of countries above, but best consistent selection of veg food was in Burma, and I'm very cautious about what I eat, but still got sick in Mrauk-U and Battambang in Cambodia. Had a expat in Thailand make a selection of veg food at a night market and it was the best, but unless you speak the language or know what you're buying, then it's tough. The weekend street market in Malacca wasn't bad either. Best beach experience was at Nagapali beach in Burma, mind you Ko Samet Thailand was good too, but usually I've been slogging it out on a bicycle for weeks so my opinion is skewed. Wouldn't mind cycling the Philippines, but it's not a place cyclists seem to go, maybe security is the problem.
Buddhist Temples often have vegetarian restaurants nearby. :-)
love the informal presentation. Your videos are tops
Hello Mick Malloy, thank you for your personal note of encouragement. It really does make a difference for us when we know people appreciate what we are doing. Your comments also cause UA-cam to show our video to more people so your note is like paying us a small tip $$ for our time. Thank you, Dan

@@VagabondAwake Good bless travel safe.
I really appreciate this video! I feel like there are beautiful places to live in so many countries in SE Asia, but the visas are the biggest factor. Because we are a fam of 5, the costs of exit flights and re-entry or applying for multiple extensions is a concern. I love Indonesia but it seems like it could be quite a hassle trying to stay for a year. I will check out Vietnam, it sounds like it's much easier! And Phillipines you mentioned is easy extension, which both of you seem to reccommend this country so highly as a place to live in all aspects! I wonder if my idea of 1 yr per country is too long lol, but it makes it much more affordable this way is the visas aren't expensive....and with 3 kids, moving often is not ideal! lol Thanks for all you share Dan + Quiang, you make a great team!
Great tips thank you guys!!!!!!
You bet!
I am so enjoying my subscription to Vagabond Buddha, particularly enjoying watching all the videos of your travels throughout Southeast Asia. Its funny, but when I first happened upon your website, I was quite focused on retiring in Portugal. Now that I have been navigating your website, I am feeling rather open to other exciting options for retirement living. I plan to retire in 1 1/2 years from now and am now considering spending at least the first couple of years slow traveling and exploring, having been inspired by your adventures. Thank you so much for all the valuable information that you provide on Vagabond Buddha!
The world is your Oyster Joanne. Eat all the ice cream flavors even if chocolate is your favorite.
Vagabond Awake, I totally agree with you, Dan.
We particularly loved Penang & Hoi An. Too many great countries to choose really. My thoughts... if you can, due to health and money - travel throughout the region, see this part of the world. Every three months, just move on to the next beautiful spot. Perhaps I'm a vagabond too at heart?
Well said. We feel the same. Thanks for commenting. It helps our business get better. Thanks for subscribing too! Best, Dan
Love your videos. My wife is from Tondo Manila and I'm from upstate NY. We currently live in the US. We are having a house built in General Trias Cavite, and plan on retiring and moving there next summer. Your cost of living, and visa information has been very helpful to give me a heads up of my options when I move there. Thank you very much.
Good luck! Let us know how it goes. :-)
Thanks folks - a lot of handy information here
Glad it was helpful!

How would Taiwan fit into these ratings?
I haven't been there yet. It is on the Q. Hopefully early 2022?
Where is the best country for older single women to. explore, enjoy, and have a peaceful existence.
Great question. I am not sure why the rules would be much different just because you are a woman. A beautiful beach is a beautiful beach, right? A beautiful mountain is a beautiful mountain. A beautiful city is a beautiful city. I see older single woman all over SE Asia for example. Not as many as men, but they are here. Maybe one of them will give us their insight?
@@VagabondAwake Women sometimes are more affiliative and less interested in relationships similar to her past relationships in younger years. Women want to find friends to hang out with, not necessarily in bars. Women live longer than men as a rule and are looking for family type connections as they age. These are just a few thoughts that may not be true for both genders. Women definitely want to feel safe. Women want to be friendly without feeling like they are only interested in finding a sleeping partner. Women's hobbies tend to be different than men's hobbies. I know an American women who lives in Hanoi and loves being there. I don't know what challenges she faces there. Like you said, you have to explore different places before you know what feels right to you whether you are a woman or a man. Not knowing what is available in the world, I tend to be more a home and hearth kind of person. I love to take care of my life, my home, my garden, and have access to lots and lots of books written in my native language, American English.
Good stuff!
You might have chatted a little about which of those countries are best for meeting a life partner. I guess probably for a western male meeting a woman. Thatโs whatโs most likely? ๐คทโโ๏ธ
I think it is Malaysia. But great idea. I will do a video about it this month.
Vagabond Awake Great. You think English is as widely spoken in Malaysia as it is in the Philippines?
Hi,
1. How do you get your medical insurance if you constantly travel? Is there a good option of a medical insurance that covers you in all SE countries?
2. You have also mentioned that you work out 5 days a week. How do you find a gym with a short term membership at a new place? P.S. Gyms are common, short-term membership is not.
Here are my thoughts on medical:

I will do a video this week on "Travel Life: How to Stay Fit"
@@VagabondAwake Thanks! In your upcoming video, please cover the topic of "How to Stay Fit" when a hotel/condo gym is too amateur for your needs, and you are in the area for, say, less than a month. Thanks in advance.
For me, Thailand by a mile
when traveling to the Philippines , like Cagayan De Oro City will i need my pass port and a travel vista or just my pass port

Hallo. Cam from Germany. I wont ask you. How is the best plase for Retriement in the Philippines for you.
Too early to tell. So far maybe Dumaguete or Siquijor. We will fiinish our survey of the country when the borders open.
Frank the best places are those that get you close to the nature and most of all if you're very near to the beach. Among all the natural beauties the white sand seashore is always the nicest. Just imagine yourself basking in the late afternoon facing the sea savoring the tropical breeze while waiting for the sunset in all it's glory and serenity.
For your retirement I recommend places like Negros, Panay, Palawan, Bohol and Siquijor. First thing you must do is to try traveling first to these aforementioned islands so that you will have an idea what should become your most preferable.
Thang you very much ๐๐you male a super Job. ๐๐๐๐
