We have used large rocks and Florida driftwood in our rock gardens around our pool and driveway. You have given me some good ideas for bird feeders. Thanks!
This video was 7 years ago and I have the same large feeder now in 2023. I'm guessing I got mine at Tractor Supply. I find it a tad large but the feeder itself I love everything about it. Not sure you are still keeping up with comments on this video if so how is your wood pole holding up?
I have used the Havahart EZ-set # 1083 to dispose of 360 grey squirrels since June 2014. The 1-door EZ-set traps save me time in 3 different ways: 1) They are much easier and faster to set. 2) they are also much easier to bait because you just put the bait behind the trigger plate, instead of trying to balance the bait on top of the trigger plate. 3) I don't have any false alarms any more because the 1083 is NEVER set off by small birds. It takes a 1 pound animal to set off the 1083 and almost all grey squirrels weigh at least 1 pound. That is important if you are not home to keep checking your traps. You will never catch a squirrel, if the trap is closed for hours with a small bird inside. I used to use a 1030 for squirrels but since I bought 2 of the EZ set traps I stopped using the older model trap. Home Depot and Lowes do not stock the 1083 but I was able to get them online for about $35 via Amazon WRZ 2020-08-02 Delaware County, PA
+Valeta Cornwell Thank you for your kind and encouraging words… We do get a few squirrels once in a while… But the red tailed hawk do end up getting the squirrels every once in a while.
Your property looks so nice...10 acres? wow...my property is only 7500 feet...that is the lot size...the house is only 1400 feet...it looks like you get snow...we don’t...never...in fact it doesn’t even rain...
I hate to criticize someone with good intentions but your platform feeder would be a complete mess on a windy or rainy day. My platform feeders are enclosed with a roof on them so it protects the birds from predators, extreme heat or inclement weather Cardinals prefer safflower seeds, not black oil sunflowers. Grey Squirrels could easily climb your ash/wood pole and ravage your feeder. A 2.5" diameter length of PVC would deter grey squirrels, if the feeder was higher. You can put the PVC pole around a shorter and narrower pole and make the entire set-up easy to take down and work on when you need to. I use my feeders to attract grey squirrels to an area away from my tomato plants and then I use a Havahart model #1083 to catch and dispose of them. I don't care about the aesthetics of my bird feeders, I only care about how effective they are in attracting song birds while deterring invasive species like Starlings. WRZ 2020-08-02
