Very sombre and soothing lecture:you are in scholarly form!👩‍🎓I would also treat the novel as a Homeric tale, exemplified in a key passage where the Dodger drags Oliver into the underworld. My compliments to Benjamin for his dedication to his craft, although he strikes me as more Huckleberry Finn than Oliver😀❤️

My brain: Don't do it! It's 2 am and plus you haven't even read Oliver Twist yet... watch the video later!!
Also me: Hahaha comfy Emmie video go brrrrr
(On a serious note I love this lecture style video especially since I got to learn about what kind of lens you can read this book at! I'm a pretty casual reader so sometimes I feel like I have shallow interpretations of books so this is such a helpful video on how to analyze! Anyways, definitely gonna revisit this when I finally read Oliver Twist! Great video!!)

Your careful reading of Oliver Twist touches on so many issues re. children and their fate in times of geopolitical + economic crisis.
*Kith: The Riddle of Childscape* : this ground-breaking book by Jay Griffith was reviewed by Mary Beard in 2011 for The Guardian (online).
See also the blog Humanum, *The Unsurpassable Significance of the Child* by D.C. Schindler.
Francine Prose's *Anne Frank, The Book, The Life, The Afterlife* suggests that Anne's Diaries may be the only record we have of a child writing about herself as she moves into adolescence. The child in the adult Dickens never forgot his days in the blacking factory.

Incredibly intuitive description of a Dickens' classic. I'm not sure what your plans are after university, but it is my hope that you might teach. Your passion reminds me of an English literature teacher I had. I was already a voracious reader, (my mother was a journalist and our house was full of books) but she opened up so many more avenues with her suggestions and mentored me in exploring more authors and my own creative writing endeavors. I also appreciate the calm, almost ASMR quality of your videos. Kudos! You have a brilliant future.

Sadly this is not the type of video that will rack up views, but they’re so essential to experience the story to its fullest. Also it has a cool seminar vibe, keep doing these !! After the Kawabata (edit: typo) one, this is the “deepest” video you put out. Nice insights all round for the non english/lit students looking to get more from reading. Have a nice back to school season 🌟

With your love for literature as well as your understanding of and pondering upon the subjects, descriptions and historical circumstances that you encounter through books, one cannot but feel a deep desire to sit down and be engulfed by one.
I truly hope you will create more of these 'lectures' in the future as they are very wonderful, and their way of casting a light upon how you read is further intriguing.
