  • In this episode, we unpack Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. Although well known through many popular adaptations, this flawed novel is riddled with contrivances, and doesn't quite hold up so well. In this video, we explore this, as well as its saving graces: characters like Nancy, Bill and Fagin.

Thanks very much, I'm glad you liked them. I love David Copperfield. Not read Little Dorrit but I am looking forward to it :)

@@JoshuaJClarkeKelsall “One must have a heart of stone to read the death of little Nell without laughing.” (Oscar Wilde) ha! Little Nell is from the OLD CURIOSITY SHOP right, not DORRIT ?

I've read it several times and I don't get it! The story seems under developed... like I could give you a summery of the plot and there would be little more to the book than that- and it doesn't feel like that much of a plot, unlike say A Good Man is Hard to Find. Could you help me here? Tell me what I'm missing?

(BTW, my user name is misleading! I don't do as much reading of things as I should!)

For me it is more of a character study. The plot isn't as important as the characters being affected by the actions of the other characters. Specifically Miss Havisham, Estella and Pip's relationship to each. I just find it really fascinating.

It was my fist Dickens, we read it in school and watched the black and white film (I think from the 30s/40s maybe). I enjoyed it at the time but I remember little now. Looking forward to getting there eventually.
