    By the way the linr about the partner's ex taking the ice cube trays was 100% true. When he and Rosanne got divorced she literally took the ice cube trays when she left.

    "Have you ever killed anyone?"
    "Yeah, but they were all bad."
    Fun Fact: The USMC supplied three Harriers and their pilots for a fee of $100,736 ($2,410 per hour).
    Art Imitates Life Fact: At one point in the movie, Gib tells a story about his second wife taking everything when she left him, even the ice cube trays from the freezer. This is a direct reference to Tom Arnold's divorce from Roseanne Barr that was happening at the same time. Barr was reported to have taken his ice cube trays when she left him as well. Arnold told the story to James Cameron on the set and Cameron incorporated it into the film.
    That's Hot Fact: The set of bra and matching panties worn by Helen Tasker during the striptease scene were Jamie Lee Curtis's own. Curtis rehearsed the scene extensively with director James Cameron, and it was there that the fall she makes in the middle of the dance was conceived (it didn't happen spontaneously during the actual shooting, as is often claimed). Arnold Schwarzenegger was not told of this beforehand, and this is hinted at when Harry briefly sits up in alarm, realizes that he is breaking character, and then relaxes.

    The bit where the jet fighters fire missiles at the bridge and blew it up was actually a bunch of marines firing missiles at the bridge and blowing part of it up. The Old Bridge was scheduled for demolition and had been replaced by a modern version. The plan was to destroy the bridge and turn it into an artificial reef. When Cameron inquired a filming on the Old Bridge, and the government of Florida found out that part of it was going to be faking a demolition of it, Cameron was told, "tell you what... we'll give you a couple of Florida National Guard fighter jets and actually blow up the bridge for you."

    • @KaterChris
      @KaterChris Рік тому

      Sounds like a nice story, but sadly completely untrue. They applied for permission to destroy the old bridge for real but were denied, according to an interview with Visual Effects Coordinator John Bruno (the office cleaner guy when the Harrier crashes backwards into the building!). So they used a scale model for the explosion scenes (you can see that the bread van being flung in the air by the blast looks a bit odd) and the missiles were added digitally. The aftermath scenes were then filmed on an already partly demolished section of the old highway. There is a BTS/Making-Of somewhere here on UA-cam. There is absolutely no way someone would allow fighter jets fire live missiles to destroy a bridge for filming purposes, just too dangerous.

  • @Sentinel3D
    @Sentinel3D Рік тому +2

    The CG for the Harrier destruction was on point. I remember then showing the shot being composited, and it made sense that it was CG. You just don't think CG because it's not sci-fi. I think it was on that same show that I found out that almost all car crashes are CG these days.
    At all times before the bomb got to the city, it was better for the bombs to be set off prematurely.
    On that kiss, people used to gather their families and put on sunglasses and go to Vegas to witness advertised nuclear tests all the time. This explosion was MILES away, and at less than ground level. The optimum height for an explosion is about 15 stories up. They were FINE to kiss during the explosion.
    The missile? Yeah. That was absurd. No way it flies straight, or perhaps at all, with a man hanging from it.

  • @danholmesfilm

    I don't feel like it's 2 separate films smashed together so much as it is maybe the one and only true ACTION COMEDY as all others are an action movie with comedy elements or vice versa. but this allows for and completes both the Action arc AND the Comedy arc and successfully intertwines them which makes it a true epic IMO

  • @Michael75579
    @Michael75579 Рік тому +2

    Nukes are actually fairly difficult to set off. You need very precisely timed detonation of the explosives surrounding the core to compress it symmetrically; otherwise the energy buildup will blow the core apart again before you get a nuclear explosion. The Peacemaker has a good example of this, where they stop the nuke going off in the climax of the film by hitting it very hard with a heavy object and thereby destroy the careful arrangement and timing that the trigger needs. The worst you're going to get in that case is a dirty bomb where a conventional explosion scatters radioactive material over the local area. Modern fusion weapons use a fission core to produce the temperature and pressure needed to kickstart fusion, so the same applies.

  • @javix2013

    What I love about the action movies of the 90s, were the miniature practical effects, they look very real, unlike the current CGI that looks very artificial and takes me out of the experience and not only that, in the 90s, they also filmed the action scenes in a real way, the explosions that you see in the base of the terrorists, all real.

But I'll agree the new one was actually a bit on the boring and lower quality side. Still not entirely sure why but I think it has something to do with the fact that it was moistly shot during the height of covid. It feel like it too. unfortunately. Great reaction as always, especially because your tastes differ a bit from mine, but I can always comprehend why you feel the way you do. True Lies has always felt like two movies crammed together to me, too. The difference is just, I don't really mind. Being made in 1994, it's one of the last action flicks of this, well, "innocent" era of 1980s action flicks: It never wants to be taken seriously, it just wants to entertain, and if it has to break all boundaries of probability, it'll do just that and deliver itself voluntarily to your willing suspension of disbelief. Cameron knew how to make everything come together, how to make everything work, despite the film being (deliberately) gloriously dumb in places.
    That's why I enjoyed Stallone's Expendables (although not nearly to this degree): callbacks to an era of unadulterated fun. They really don't make 'em like this anymore. How I wish Cameron had made The Last Action Hero - that one had the potential to be a magnificent swansong of the 1980s action flick.

    Jamie Lee Curtis actually did the limo stunt. She did it on her birthday. Her double was set and ready to go but Jamie said she wanted to do it. Jamie and her doulble rehearsed it a few times and then went for it. James Cameron filmed it himself hanging outside the chopper.

      @@kylederry5031 Hanging from a helicopter is relatively safe as you'll be wearing a harness and attached with steel cables to prevent you from falling. Coming out of the car is much riskier; you really don't want, for example, your foot to be caught in the sunroof of the car as it plummets off the bridge while the helicopter pulls you up.

    "Entertaining but absurd" should indeed be the tagline of this movie. And whilst I agree with you when you criticised 'Speed' for the unnecessary final act, I think it's fine here. In that movie Payne was dead so the threat was over and nothing more was needed but here the terrorist was still at large so we needed resolution and with Cameron at the helm it's done so well that I've never felt it was a mistake unlike Speed where I think it's actually detrimental to the film.
    I love the little moments like the binocular guy refocussing and Harry shielding their eyes during the blast but Jamie Lee is the real star here. She shows great comic timing with the little slip as she walks in the heels, if I recall she came up with the suggestion for the fall from the four poster whilst she and Cameron were rehearsing the dance sequence together. She also had the balls to allow herself to be dangled, securely, under a helicopter for real during her close ups in the escape from the limo - Cameron manned the camera personally whilst she did it.

    Are parts cringe? Yes, and that is intentional. The whole thing a reduction to absurdity of the action genre of the 80s and into the 90s without becoming satire. Handled badly, it would have been another Naked Gun money, but directed by Cameron (with some of his favorite actors) it's just having fun while subtlely making fun. Unfortunately, at this point, I don't think it's physically and intellectually possible for Hollyweird to make fun of itself without reducing it to fart jokes and pie fights followed by a lecture about why the movie is bad and you're horrible for laughing at it.

    Some technical issues with your videos that I have noticed in the past month or two. The frame rate often gets stuttery when you are doing movie reactions. Just the movie part, your camera is working perfectly. Also just the movie reactions, I don't remember seeing this issue with your Galactica videos.
    Not big enough deal to stop watching your reactions, I always love seeing them. And congrats on moving to the couch!

      Oh interesting. I haven’t noticed, but thanks. I’ll keep an eye out. I’d you see any specific time stamps in the future feel free to drop a time stamp. 0:00 🙃

      @@CasualNerdReactions It happens fairly often and it switches between normal smooth frame rate and the stuttery one. Here's one example: 9:52 when he says "Smooth things a little bit" it gets stuttery. And then on the next scene it starts smooth but gets stuttery again when he is walking. That kind of fast back and forth.
      I don't know anything about making videos, so I can't be any help with fixing it. I hope you can get it sorted out.

      Not sure what’s causing it, nothing in particular has changed. BUT I did make a change recently, I’m not sure when or what videos the change starts at so hopefully that will solve the problem before I knew about it. 😅

    Why not Boris and Natasha?

      Natasha was the obvious choice but they “subverted our expectations”.

    Did u know Jamie Lee Curtis actual feel during the dance scene? Cameron liked it so much he left it in the movie. Also, Bill Paxton was hilarious! RIP Bill.😂❤

      Maybe one day I’ll watch. I saw 4 and enjoyed it, but I saw another one and didn’t care for it. I’ve heard the new is good.

    There was to be a True Lies 2; but Governor Schwarzenegger took care of that.

    I’m sorry you didn’t find it thoroughly entertaining. If you know anything about script writing, there is always the inciting incident, plot point one, plot point two is introduced and then they cross each other Both plot lines have to have a full, complete storyline of beginning, middle and end and they come together for the resolution of the film. That’s the bare bones of script writing. There is more to it. It seems you liked one plot line more than the other. (By the way, this film had four plot lines going at the same time, each needed to be resolved.) I think it is cleverly written and is one of the best comedies we’ve had in decades.
