I may be biased here but your vocabulary is expanding in both languages it seems like. I just subscribed to your account. Great explanation of the public and private school systems in Spain.
Maddie, en un próximo viaje a España, deberías acercarte al norte y hacer ese "Camino de las Estrellas" que haría que no volvieses a mirar el mundo de la misma manera. Un saludo desde esa esquina verde, desde ese Finisterre de pereginación.
When I was learning Spanish in high school I was so excited about Spanish that I wanted to become a Spanish teacher. I discussed it with the guidance counselor and he told me that I could not teach in high school or the lower grades. When I got to college I majored in Spanish and still wanted to become a teacher at the college level. Then I heard “Publish or Perish”. That absolutely terrified me. Then one day a group of students were sitting around in a break room. Everybody was telling what their plans were and when I said that I wanted to teach Spanish a girl at the other end of the table almost yelled at me, “YOU’LL never teach!” She was right. A week from today I will be 77 years old so I am way too old now and I never took any classes for learning how to teach. I have thought of teaching English to Spanish speakers but it was just not meant to be. I could never teach children anyway. I would have to teach adults if I were to teach anybody but that is never going to happen either. I have always wanted to live or at least spend some time in Spain but I have never we travelled in my life. It’s too late now.
Hi Clarence! I’m very sorry to hear you haven’t had an opportunity to teach yet. I hope you find some motivation and do not let this discourage you! There is no time like the present :)
Thank you for the content. I am getting my Master's in ESL and I planning to visit Spain this year to start looking for jobs. I am fluent in Spanish but not academic Spanish. Thanks
I have a couple questions as a college senior who is exploring her options post graduation!! 1. how long did you end up living in Spain for the program? I want to go abroad but not sure if I want to commit to a year or more… 2. did you choose your placement or did it get chosen for you? I also studied abroad in Sevilla and LOVED IT! thanks for the video!
As a veteran ESL teacher, I would love to go there, but there are a few problems. Number one: It's more difficult for Americans. Number 2. There doesn't seem to be many real, long-term, 1 year contracts. Also, the pay is s***. So I guess I'll stay in Asia...
Income in Spain is terrible for saving, but you can get by on a very low income if you're frugal. It's a lifestyle choice really...I have a video on this topic :)
It'd be interesting if you did a video on each type of student you encountered and what worked for each set of students. I wanna do this but I'm unsure what kind of students I would choose became I've never taught
Hi Maddie. Great video. I think l am going have to watch it at least 2 or 3 times because l have a broken arm and trying to write down notes is very hard, plus you speak so quickly. I am from Australia and l am 51. I do not have a degree just a TEFL Certificate however l can do the degree from one of the Universities in Melbourne online. Will they favour younger people over me because of my age? I prefer to teach children. In Australia you must pass what is called "Working with children check" So basically the police will do a check on you to see whether or not your fit to work with children. Also my understanding by my research is a good wage is between 800 to 1300 Spanish money. Sorry l don't know whether they use the Euro. Anyway l will watch it again. If you could find some time to answer these questions would really appreciate it Cheers from Melbourne Australia
I am honestly considering teaching in spain but I am really nervous to take the leap. I served my mission in Argentina and I am currently a college student. Also how is your social life as a teacher are there lots of people your age that are teaching. Did you make a lot of friends etc???
Hey Maddie, I wanted to know how is it going now in Spain. I know housing is kinda complicated situation but I also wanted to know how the salary is, I don't know if the economy is the best right now
Why did you personally return to the states? I’m a second year aux in Madrid with BEDA and contemplating a 3rd…I absolutely love the city and enjoy the teaching aspect as well but for me it’s family/money/age holding me back (I’m in my 30s)
Good idea, I taught business professionals in Barcelona. There needs are not being met by most language academies in the area. I'd say don't limit yourself to business owners, a lot of sales folk, doctors and office workers want fine tuned lessons. I've been posting some videos on teaching in Spain :)
I applaud you for your English Teacher in Spain🎉 My family is Spanish South American Jewish in Laguna Niguel Calif, I made my adult university & working life in Miami Florida then moving up to N Virginia for Law School & US Govt jobs. I always loved San Diego growing up abd spent 6 months in Del Mar until I got my passport again. Being on the East Coast, it was refreshing to visit beautiful San Diego, but Spain is home & I applaud you and your love for Spain and teaching.
What did you think of the interview process at Meddeas? I found it very strange. The questions they asked me were: Name 3 things do you not like about people? What one of those 3 things do you see in yourself? What would make you not enjoy the program? I was never accepted in the end and they never reached back to me. My application was very Madrid focused so that could be why I wasn’t accepted. This year I am applying through Conversa so my fingers are crossed🤞
Maddie, did you find it was easy to make friends? You mentioned the other auxiliary teacher who was your friend, but did the program make it possible for you to meet people?
I'm a teacher of English at high school in Morocco and I've been teaching for 7 years Is it possible to teach in Spain ? \ what are the requirements? Is it easy for non-native teachers to find a job there? Thanks a bunch in advance

Hola profe!!! 😂😂😂😂
Could you help one understand how to apply to work in this role as you did?

How odd, I hate all that pretentious crap at interviews. It's like, "mate, you're paying me 700 euro a month" lol
I would've answered it by " I hate it when ppl judge others based on their answers to random questions " and got rejected as well 😅

You have to be a native English speaker
Maddie, you said that this was technically a student visa but does that mean you have to be enrolled in a degree in a country to participate?

Is there an equivalent to nalcap for European teachers?
You could go for CIEE, I actually recently posted a video on it.
It's a bummer they only accept recent graduates. Wish I had heard about the program earlier.
