Survived a stroke that the doctor said he wouldn't be able to walk and talk, but proved them wrong with in two years. He was awesome and I miss him very much.

Wondering what my Great Uncle experienced, assaulting this fortress, he had passed away a few years prior. Nice to see that it has finally been cleaned up, when I was there, the wreckage of war was strewn about all over the place, unexploded ordinance, wrecked tanks, unused ammo everywhere.

That picture became the Marine Memorial in Washington D C the figures are solid bronze 30 ft tall . It is so imposing that it first gets your attention then your respect. I can only guess how many prayers are said at this site.
To imagine such a beautiful place was once the scene of unimaginable horror. God bless all the brave men who fought and died for our freedoms. Our world is a lesser place without them.

I have had two relatives fight in this war, My Uncle Sloan and my Uncle JT. One fought in the European theatre against the Germans while the other was fighting in the Pacific, I was told my Uncle Sloan killed himself due to PTSD. I salute to the fellas who fought in this terrible war. Semper fi brothers.
My Dad's older brother, George Harold Medley Sr. served somewhere in the Pacific. The fear of a bansai charge late at night scared him so much, he wore very thick glasses, that he never really talked about the islands where he served with me. To this day, as he is gone now, I wish I could have known. He, a long with my Dad's other three brothers and two of my Mom's brothers are my heros. They all served in WW 2 and survived to come home and raise families. God bless them all.
My dad was 17 years old and was in a Higgins boat guiding other boats to shore, he was the radio man. He came home, went to school got married had a family, but every Christmas there was sadness about him and towards the end of his life he said it was because of all the men that didn’t make it home and the men he had known. He was a gentle man but I recognize the melancholy in him all his life.

My father was one of them who watched the signing of the Japanese Surrender in Tokyo Bay on the BB63 Missouri as his Submarine SS399 SeaCat was one of 12 Subs that escorted the BB63 into Tokyo Bay - My Father was radioman on SS SeaCat 1943-46, Then Served in the US Coast Guard and retired a Full Commander in 1980.

My uncle passed away 5 years ago he fought on Iwo Jima and during the Korean War he was at Chosin too.

Iwo Jima is a famous haunted place in Japan, where the ghosts of American and Japanese soldiers are often seen sitting side by side on the beach.

This tuggs at my heart knowing these men fought so hard for us and these kids now don't have the slightest clue I hope thy can wake up and learn cuz the men fought so hard just for these kids now to screw everything up

I met a 4th marine who landed and fought on the island, ( mr. French) incredible stories, he gave me a bottle that has his landing date, of the black sands of Iwo Jima, is sitting on my shelf in my office I cherish it to this day, God bless you Mr French,😇😇😇

Lest we never forget the ultimate sacrifice our forefathers made to protect liberty and freedom for us all. My father was one of them who watched the signing of the Japanese Surrender in Tokyo Bay on the BB63 Missouri as his Submarine SS399 SeaCat was one of 12 Subs that escorted the BB63 into Tokyo Bay - My Father was radioman on SS SeaCat 1943-46, Then Served in the US Coast Guard and retired a Full Commander in 1980.

When we returned Iwo to the Japanese, all the American dead were repatriated. In the late 1960's.
Both of my Grandfathers fought in the Pacific with the USMC. Individually, they were not perfect; they were men, but they were good men. Collectively, like the rest of their generation, they were the best damned men this country has ever produced. ❤️🇺🇸
