@@AsiaOrlando Yes! I have a 22'' and it sometimes feels overbearing. I feel like the new iMac was designed so creators would have to get the iPad lol. Thx for responding!
Yesss I’m so glad a fellow artist has a review on the new iMac. I bought the green one and I’m in love with it. I also use it with my iPad most frequently but I do have my old Wacom 22hd that I use sometimes as a 2nd monitor when I’m working on something bigger.
Finally the review I was looking for! I don’t care about 4K video rendering haha I understand why many youtubers feel they need to review that aspect but as a UI/UX designer I want to know if the computer can handle heavy vector graphics, photo editing projects and illustration while having a well color calibrated screen. Thank you
I was very close to buying the new studio display to attach to my 2019 MBP, but that cost, man. I’ve decided to buy a re-curb m1 imac with 16GB ram and a 512 drive. Super happy to see your review, even tho it’s almost year old!
You know what, I would up SEEING the 27” studio display right beside the 24” iMac and the bigger screen got me. I would up buying a 2019 27” iMac with a TB SSD, and base ram. The 2019 were the las ones you could upgrade your own ram, so I did, took it to something crazy. I LOVE. This Mac. They are still on apple refurb site.
@@MarcCardwell thanks Marc, I was going to buy a 2020 27” i7 with extra ram and ssd but saw this video and thought maybe M1 24” a better option as it’s cheaper. I’ll look at the 2019.
For what I do, graphic design, all Adobe apps, this made sense. Upgrading the ram was a decider too. Using refurb is like new with the warranty. And that 27” 5k display, man, is sweet.

Is it difficult to use procreate looking at the larger iMac screen while drawing on the iPad below. I’ve only used procreate by drawing on the iPad directly and not sure my brain would get used to this setup. I’d like to see it on a larger screen, especially since my iPad Pro is only an 11” model which is more easily held.
I'm so excited for this video. I haven't bought the iMac, but I did purchase the M1 Macbook Pro and the M1 Mac Mini. Not sure if waiting for the newer version of iMac is better for me. But love your videos!
@A O It's just okay at the base model. As a result I ended up also getting the new 16" Macbook Pro M1 Max. I would wait if I were you until AFTER March 8th when they show the newer version of the mini. You'll need a good monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc, so you might want to look at the new iMac's as well. They might be coming on March 8th as well. We're close to that date, so my recommendation is don't buy anything until after that date.
Thank you for this video! I actually didn't know Sidecar worked with the pencil 🙈 that makes it so much better. I would love to see a video where you try out Astropad!
Hello, thank you for this video. Do you have a video recommending which is better, adobe suite or procreate for digital art? This answer is essential if I should purchase a new tablet or new iMac.
Hello Asia. This was a good overview on your investment for your business. I’ve been using my built PC but have been become more irritated with Windows and now I’ve been wanting to switch to MacOS. I wasn’t sure whether to go for a Mac Mini, MacBook Pro or an iMac. What specs did you choose and now I know it’s three years later I’m asking so how has your machine been treating you for what you do? Thank you.
Hi Asia, what specifications as an illustrator did you go for? I'm thinking about investing in the iMac M1 24inch but not sure whether to lean onto external storage or go for bigger storage within the iMac setup. Would love to know what you decided as a fellow illustrator! x
@@AsiaOrlando I’m good thanks Asia! How are you doing? Love your most recent illustration on IG! Yes please make a video using astropad. I'm very stuck between buying a pen display or just get a mac since I have an ipad pro, like you did :) Great video. I already take domestika classes too I love them!!!!
Hi Asia! Thanks so much for such an informative video! 🎨 As a fellow artist, I’m contemplating getting an iMac 24 but have a question about the display. Do you tend to work with True Tone on or off for your visual work? I find it more comfortable with it on but know it can affect the colours. It would be great to know your personal preferences 🤩 Thanks so much! 💃
Aaaa that’s interesting Asia! I got a MacBook Air back in 2020, so still quite recently. Now I start to think that maybe it was a mistake because I could have gotten the iMac instead? I’m mainly using my laptop for marketing client work and for editing videos in FCP (where I would appreciate a bigger screen!). Do you own a MacBook too? Or “just” the iPad and the iMac? Thanks for sharing! ❤️
Hi! I just arrived Madrid and was wondering where and if it's a good idea to buy a MacBook to work drawing with apple side car in iPad. It's better than a cintiq?
Hi Bijita, my advice is always to develop your own way of illustrating the world, never copy someone else’s style, story or aesthetics as it will slower a lot your learning curve. Artists community isn't very big so between us we always notice who got too much inspired by whom. Keep on practicing and trying out new things to discover what works best for you and tell your story in your own unique and original style😊
Was there lag when mirroring the iPad to the iMac when using Photoshop, and does the apple pencil work when using photoshop via screen mirroring? And what about the colours, did they match between the iMac and iPad?
Hi Tasil, the sidecar has full pen support function and the colors quite match, and if they don’t it’s quite indistinguishable to the eye, as both displays are great 🌿
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the iMac from a graphic design perspective. I recently bought a iMac Pro 13 M1 and couple weeks ago got the iPad 12 pro for affinity designer/photo. Finding a good colour calibrated monitor for the laptop in Canada is nearly the same price as the iMac M1, after watching your video decided to the iMac 24 M1. Thanks again and I also subscribed.
Thanks for posting this video. I’ve been looking for a new computer and monitor , but watching a lot of video reviews. Has been leaving me more and more confused! Its nice to see some one make a video that isn’t purely obsessed with performance figures and bench marks :) With your Ipad connected to the imac, are you using the software on the imac or the software on the pad? Do you need to have it installed on both devices? You say that you have a benq 4 k monitor, is the screen a different size? And did it take a lot of time to adjust to a smaller screen? What version of the imac did you choose? Have you used it for photoshop and lightroom? If so, how the mac/ipad combo work out in those programs? Thanks in advance.
@@AsiaOrlando it does! It came with OS Catalina. This is great news as I spent a ton on a 27” iMac upgraded the RAM myself to 32gigs for video editing. I was too impatient to wait for the M1s.
Hi! I am considering buying this imac with 8 cores and 16 GB of RAM. I wonder whether to buy an imac or for 1-2 thousand less for some eizo monitor for photographers with 4k and 27 inches. I have a macbook pro 2020 with m1 which works great. What do you think is better to choose? The truth is that the imac is a whole computer with a monitor that is not bad, and the eizo is just a 3.5 inch larger monitor that costs 1,000 less. It seems to me that it is worth adding this thousand to buy an imac, it is a decision about the equipment for years. How many years do you think this imac can be usable vs photo monitor? I am a professional photographer, but the constant work on a 13-inch MacBook is starting to tire me, so I am considering switching to a larger monitor, but when I saw that I have a whole computer for 1000 more, not just a monitor, I do not know what to do. Hope you can advise me something. I wish you all the best!
I made the switch from Ipad to PC, best decision I've made for my art, a great PC is way way way cheaper and upgradable than an imac and I got a cheap 22' pen display (since the point for me was to get a bigger monitor to be more confortable when I draw) which I used for a couple of years until I recently upgraded to a 24' 4k Huion pen display. I use Clip Studio Paint which sped up my art process at least twice so I'm more productive. But I miss Procreate a lot , the brushes are incredible, so I'm thinking about getting a new smaller 11' Ipad just for fun too. But the one big dowsides not being in the same ecosystem with all my devices.
Are you getting the new iMac M1? and tell me do you prefer to use the iPad with it or a pen display or drawing tablet?
I currently use a Wacom Cintiq with my m1 iMac. I love drawing on a huge display, but I keep thinking how good my desk setup would look with an iPad.
