I can tell you from exp , expand and do it on your own. I make 13 products, Hot sauce, salsa, jam's. jelly. My copacker wants $1 per jar and $36 hour per worker. My cost comes down to $2.45 cents per unit if i make it . $3.85 if I have a copacker make it .
How to ensure spice mix flavor consistency when changing suppliers? For example, when starting packing yourself and then hiring a co-packer. Isn't the flavor going to be slightly different, if they use the same spices, but from a different source.
GREAT question but I would ask for a ample from each supplier first BUT the thing with spices like wine they may have enviromental factors that can alter the flavors slightly...
The system/business model is making it impossible for the starters. It's making the rich become richer and the poor becomes dirt poor because we can't afford to process our produce this way. Things got to change.
Thanks again for helping me piece all of this info together. I have a very original low carb, baked good product that I’ve developed the recipe for on my own. I haven’t gotten very far with it yet but I have 7 different flavors so far with many more in mind and I know it’s going to be successful because there isn’t anything like it on the market at this time. I’ve done extensive market research on it with the help of my local SBA. How can I keep my co-packers from taking credit for my recipe or marketing it as their own? Thanks in advance.
Co packers are in the business to simply package clients products. There are some stipulations you can add to a contract BUT when it comes to food there is no leagel way to protect recipes via patents, copyrights etc. Recipes can be changed ever so slightly and then it becomes a new recipe. BUT you can check references from a co packer. Their reputation is on the line and normally they are not in the business of steeling ideas
Having trouble making lemon pepper seasoning. I can't zest lemon then roast for shelf life purposes. How do I make my own lemon pepper seasoning? Could I use a manufacturer's lemon pepper blend and tweak it then make it my own? How would you go about this?
Hi Nikki yes as a matter of fact you can actually buy a lemon pepper seasoning or any type of seating for that matter and repackage it with your name on it if you buy in bulk you just can't of course use a trademark name on the packaging but if you were to buy 5 pounds of premade lemon pepper and to put your product brand name you can do that
@@MarketingFoodOnline please and thank you very much for your quick response. I also appreciate the information from your video. To be clear you saying, if I buy a lemon pepper seasoning from a particular company that I like the taste of, I can buy it in bulk and put my LLC or Trade Name on the label with that product in it? Thanks again!
Can you explain using a copacker vs using a fulfillment center if you are selling baked goods on multiple online platforms and you also want to develop your recipe to be shelf stable. Thanks much
The short of it is: a copacker Provides an array of services including production packing possibly fulfillment. The fulfillment center only provides fulfillment but you still need to make the product somewhere. Using a copacker also alleviate some of the licenses that you will have to get.
Hello Luong thanks ofr asking. Every co packer does offer dofferent services they are not all the same BUT normally you would provide all "finished" parts to your product like packaging, label info, ingrdients etc. tthey are normally the ones who :piece" all this together.
Hey Errol thanks for asking actually when you use a co packer you wont have to use a commercial facility yourself. The co packer will be "processing" the product you would need to just maintain a GREAT relationship to ensure the product meets YOUR standards.

Great video, mate! Question: can these co-packers do research on expiration date and shelf lives for us?

Hi friends! Does anyone have an experience with copackers for dairy products who are actively running in USA California? Any help will do.
I love your content! I was wondering if you had a list of beef jerky copackers in Hawaii? If there are any.
If the co packers is doing the work do we still need a commercial facility

For storage and distribution mainly. That's of the copacker doesn't provide those svcs already.
Thanks for making this video! When approaching a co-packer, will they expect food companies to have already worked with a food scientist?
Hey Vince thanks for the question I just posted a video responding to this GREAT co packer question!
