Thought about Christina while singing In Christ Alone today. Thinking that somewhere out there, she is with our Lord and worshiped with the saints today. Her tattoo about everything being vanity hit hard during today’s sermon. I look forward to the great reconciliation, the great reunion, where I can thank her in person and in one spirit in our Heavenly home. Quite intriguing! I have a similar reaction as I had to Sam and Kurt's re-imagined "Just a Dream" cover on June 8th 2021 (they released it on youtube on June 10th 2021, but they first showcased it in "Concert for a Cause" in 2021). I feel like the aesthetic and instrumentation was similar and highlighted how Christina's voice could fit into a more classically minded context. Christina was of course quite wide-ranging, but didn't often flex her ability to fit into a classical setting. Her "I Dreamed a dream" cover is a notable exception, where she showed the potential for her voice to be operatic. I love what's been done with her music and extending this kind of phenomenon in the best way we can today :). It goes to show that Christina created gems which are enduring and continue to be mined for years to come.
Lately I've been reflecting on Christina's life and how we are 7 years removed from her departure. The reality of all of the things she will miss in the coming years is hitting me. However, moments like this remind me that she is always with us! She's in our ears, she's in our hearts, she's in our memories, constantly helping us to be better people and better at what we do. I love this and can't wait to add this to the regular mix of Christina's music in my life.
