Nice video and good looking gaffs. A couple of questions: are the gaff hooks really stainless steel or stainless steel coated, have you had any issues with rusting from ocean water. What type of plug did you put at the beginning of the video to cover the hole on top of the bamboo so water does not drip inside the bamboo. Thanks
I haven't had any rust issues, these hooks are real SS (link in the description). I see the ebay link is no longer working but here's the butt cap link to the same caps I used. You may be able to find them elsewhere. mudhole.com/products/fuji-tapered-rubber-caps?variant=34384483319941
@@BassinWCoast thank you for the quick reply. I ordered some ss hooks from the company you linked "Douglas net" on 10.21.22 and my order is still pending. Did it take them a long time for your order to be completed? I just left them a voice-mail message so hopefully they will process the order soon.
Eh you probably won't see this but doesn't have to be calculated bamboo I mean I'm just wondering for strength purposes for lifting a fish straight about the WaterIt just seems to me that like timber bamboo would work. Which is something I should get here locally
I seen people use Dowel sticks from HD, hockey sticks and old fishing poles! I like the bamboo look. Bamboo is strong and can't get anymore SoCal than that
Calcutta bamboo is one of several species of bamboo that are considered timber grade quality. Calcutta bamboo grows to a size that is easy to handle and it's the strongest and the core is solid or nearly solid. The species of bamboo in the video is not Calcutta bamboo, by the way.
I tried ordering from that same company for the bamboo rod blanks and it seems like a total scam. They signed me up for daily automatic payments to JANELYN TEXIDOR. Can you explain how it worked for you?
Awesome work man! Can you build them with green bamboo?
Awesome! Carpet tape to keep the rope in place before shrink wrapping works excellent.
Good job. What size heat shrink? 2 inch?
Can you explain how you wrap the top part with the nylon threads thanks
Just a small piece of duck tape will hold it. Once you shrink wrap it the rope won't move
Can you please show how you wrap the black thread at 11:00

epoxying the double before heat shrink would have worked to prevent splitting but great project and great job
The metalic treads show better tru the resin .. some ppl use a product to protect the color b4 the resin
what did you use to make the stripe colors? electrical tape? looks very nice
Vinyl but electrical tape would also work
