James Braidwood: A Spark of Smoke

"James Braidwood: A Spark of Smoke" follows the achievements of James Braidwood. Braidwood was a Scottish firefighter in the 1800s, who helped create the world's first modern, municipal fire department. His most groundbreaking contribution to firefighting, "the aggressive interior attack," is still used today to mitigate a fire's spread within buildings.
This documentary was the winner of the $2500 First Runner-Up in the 2022 Discovery Award competition. It was created by 11th graders Dylan Arie, Gianpaolo Bautista and Isaiah Ochoa-Garcia, from New Tech High School in Napa, California.
