My best ever Deity culture win was a turn 176 win with Mali. Spawned in an awesome desert right next to Fountain of Youth, got Desert Folklore and the Hermetic Order which got me some great ley lines (I admit I save scummed to figure out where the ley lines were and planted my Government Plaza on top of one before actually picking Hermetic Order, which is a nice combo). From there it was just patronage of artists, writers and musicians non stop with infinite gold and faith because Mali.
As an Emperor-level player who regularly enjoys your entertaining Twitch streams, this is a refreshing take on how to play Civ at the Deity level, especially because it allows me, as a UA-cam audience member, to have your undivided attention on how to learn the game and play it well. I'm hoping this series will be the (Eureka) boost I need to take the next step in playing Civ at the highest level. Secondly, I think this series should be dubbed "Boes' Thesis" by Boesthius Thanks Boes!

You know how you said "big number go brrr" around 4 minutes mark? I've seen this happen a bunch of times already. I bet full civ7+all DLCs (in the future) that by this time next year you will be into 100's of thousands if you keep going. YT is totally shoving your content down my throat and the algorithm is promoting you rly hard. Good luck and I hope you will grow a lot in the coming year because I think your content is pretty much on par with some other massive civ youtubers!

Oh dude Please do domination next, specifically how to take an ongoing early war and transfer it to a mid game war after defeating 1-2 civs early. I always fall off and can’t overpower the ai at that mid game point. I run out of resources or won’t have the next strategic I need for upgrades and my army stall out. Also some in depth about support units such as medics etc are they worth it? Would be interested in seeing how you approach it all and hearing your thoughts
I'm trying this out now and it's insane watching people on UA-cam because my game turn 40 someone built the Oracle, he hasn't even started it and is planning around it

@@DysClaimer Yesterday i got a 211 with Canada, cold map, seven seas. Got dance of the aurora, work ethic and planned theater squares, entertainment complexes, wonders and the hockey rings. Looked out for some mountains and marked as many potential national parks as posible, got as many holy sites to pump out apostles and send them to my neighbors so they got defeated and got me some relics. I think the main thing was looking at the civics tree and working specifics, for the mounties, national parks and rock bands.

Man if the ideal minimum for a culture game is 12 cities no wonder I got painfully bored playing cultural France, as I got locked in by other civs and was limited to 4 cities. Though to be fair I had no clue what I was doing and I was playing on Prince, probably would have lost if I was playing on anything higher. Anyways nice vid Boes. Your vids are very nice.
13:08 why wouldn't you settle on top of the luxury resource? Seems like it'd be the best spot rather than the two you pinned. Its got good yields, saves a builder charge to get the yields since you don't need to improve the tile, and frees a spot that otherwise can't be used for districting. I tend to find my self settling luxuries for these reasons. I know you give up the difference in yields relative to improving the tile.
I should have explained a little further on depth why I settled there, but generally I would have settled on the luxury resources but I wanted to maximize the amount of cities I could fit in the game so I settled off of the resource! I hope that helps

hahahah well there you go! also the detailed info on the top right of the screen is actually a setting - if you go into the settings, interface there should be something called "show yields in the HUD ribbon" and i have mine set to always show
I just have to point out, Boes. You get so lucky with the AI military strength in all of the games I've watched you stream, lol. In all my games they're always 500-700 strength 40-50+ turns in. Seldom less than 400. How do you get so lucky?
i think a lot of it has to do with crippling the AI with trades/deals that benefit me a lot more than the AI, and also just the way that i play. a lot of it come with knowing when to attack the AI/timings/things like that so i'm able to capitalize before they can get to that combat strength - there's also a lot of luck as well
@@boesthius, crippling AI on Deity is entirely necessary since it allows you to catch up quicker. I totally agree with you there. I do use all your tricks, plus the tricks from other streamers (Civlifer, Potato, etc.) to their maximum effectiveness. I often find myself making 150+ gpt by turn 100, without any commercial hubs by mercing the AI economies, so I do similar things to you. I also try to get horses improved asap in order to trade them away to the AI for gpt early on, I buy up all the diplo favor I can, usually 100-120 or so before they start to favor it. As well as selling open borders and any luxury resources I have once the AI is offering to trade me some (since you can get 5-6x more gold back per turn from selling then buying) and you essentially get +9-10 gpt from a net 0-1 amenities. All that being said, I don't honestly think I do too much different than you. Perhaps they've made some invisible buffs to the Deity's prioritization of military since the posting of this vid? Sorry for the long message... Thanks for reading if you do.

Ah. I didn't realise you were always looking to do a sub 200 game. Whilst I obviously respect your skill very much, personally I canny think of anything more pointless. I love letting the game expand and take shape. You're only really scratching at the surface sub 200. I realise the late game can be awful but regardless, if the game could be more like 3 or 4 thousand turns on average I'd want that. Am I the only one?
there's definitely a lot of players like that! like you said, it's definitely a personal preference. i like the challenge of playing to win as fast as possible - almost like a speedrun if that makes sense.
Big fan of you, boes, but this is not a great Overexplained episode. IMO Overexplained is for really new players who are learning how to play and this just wasn't that. For a noob, a lot of what you said may be a little disorientating since you didn't take much time to really explain things. Maybe it's just me but I really think you should look at Potato's old Overexplained (iirc arabia playthrough) where he goes painfully slow to really explain every single decision. This was just your normal stream vid without the banter and the wacky editing, and a tiny bit more explaination; an Explained episode, if you will, rather than Overexplained. Love your vids in general tho, hope the feedback helps.

Same. High 200s I can usually do, but I don't get how people do it sub-200 without getting lucky or using game modes to cheese it.
