Are Vintage Pokemon Cards Still Rare?

PSA is grading more than 26,000 cards PER DAY and the bulk submissions are now starting to return... so, are vintage 1999 Pokemon Cards still rare? Let's dive into the data to understand how much PSA populations of popular, vintage Pokemon Cards have increased between 2020 and 2021... I think this video is evidence that PSA grading standards have increased (much more harsh) and Population Control is probably a real thing... let me know your thoughts?

Some great insights here mate! I’m new to the space and building my own collection. Will be interesting to see where the cards being released in the last 1yr and coming up; how these will hold up in 5-10 years! Such a hype at the moment but I feel it calms, then a new set and BOOM! Haha

thanks for the great work, two questions:
1. shouldnt the rate of change be compared across the same time length? e.g. seems unfair to compare a 200pc increase across 3 years vs a 80pc increase within 1 year right?
2. should we be instead comparing gem rate （i.e. how many 10s were graded comparing to how many cards were submitted)? could it just be the case that most of the raw chase cards have already been submitted before 2020?

Hey! yeah I agree i just wanted to give a sense for the timeline… and it’s easy enough to do the math and realise the rate has decreased significantly 2020 - 2021 compared to 2019 - 2020
And yeah it’s definitely not black and white I agree, the decrease in rate could be because less people are ripping packs and instead grading their old binder collections

Yeah man, I’m mostly interested in psa 10s to be honest - it’s interesting that even early wotc psa 10s are retaining a low pop
