Moments of peace DO exist, sure, but none of them last forever, and none are gauranteed of being protected. As someone with lifelong anxiety attacks, the world is full of unexpected landmines. I have never heard a song that so accurately captures the feeling of feeling relaxed, in control, at peace - and then slowly seeing it all spin rapidly out of control before you can stop it, getting more and more overwhelming and forcing your brain into overdrive as you overthink and just can't come to a solution, losing whatever scrap of peace you had for the moment like a piece of paper lost in a tornado. They pair together perfectly, like they were always supposed to be played side-by-side.
My favorite thing about this song is it's incredibly boring, assumably predictable title. An intermission is what movies or plays in the theater used to have so viewers could get up to go to the bathroom, grab snacks, stretch their legs and the like in the middle of the movie or play without missing any of it's plot or artistry. An intermission is a big nothing; it sits there being mild and unimportant until the important stuff comes back. It serves as a moment of silence or rest or an allowance of distraction, a recess; a moment to just be yourself and do what you desire, asking nothing else from you.
But you know what rarely exists in real life, especially if you're someone who's prone to anxiety and panic attacks? A long uninterrupted meditation. You have to face the world eventually no matter how much you wish peace were to last forever, and it so often comes crashing in on you and body-slamming you when you least expect it. The world is unpredictable and a ship consistently heralding chaos, one you ride on whether you like it or not.
But you know what? That's okay. Those situations are normal, and they do end. And if you move on to Hocus Pocus? You can let the adrenaline take over, maybe get something good to happen out of all of that fight-or-flight response. Feel truly alive.
