I must say, I dont subscribe to many youtubers. but the pace and details you include in these videos is almost as good as having you here with me. thank you for taking your time and making a true step by step guide. you have earned yourself a subscriber!
Very well explained.at my young age I learnt this knot with plastic wyre which we used as hanging loops.i forgot this.now I came to remember.thank you very much for sharing this diamond knot.also that I practiced this knot in another way also.thank you once again for sharing this video.
hi, if you're reading this, what rope do you recommend for a long leash for a big dog and also strong. Would it be the same rope also how thick is the rope or the usual you use for dog leashes?
Your videos are always well explained. I want to make a long training leash (about 30-40 feet). I'm already familiar with the diamond knot, constrictor, and Turks head from working with paracord so HOPEFULLY I can do this with ease.
Thank you for sharing this, it is a great video. I could follow each step, it was really clear, visible and I was loving it! Now I have a great dog leash finally:) Thank you!
OK. So I have been using this leash daily for the last 3 months apparently, and I still love it. However one thing I noticed is that the constrictor hitches under the Turk's head seem to be cutting into the main body of the leash. Ultimately this isn't too big a problem as I can just take off a couple inches and do it again (something I am doing now). But I have come to the realization that the Turk's Head is a pain to tie. I was wondering if you had any good pro tips for tightening it, or even a simpler knot I could use to the same effect.
If you use three strand rope the easiest would be to use an eye splice with no Turk's head. You could also try a racking seizing to make the eye which would not cut in as much and cover it with French whipping or some cox combing. Although I haven't demonstrated any of those knots yet, I'm pretty sure there are tutorials up on youtube. I agree that the Turk's head knot it is a little difficult to tie.
OK. So if I understand what I am looking at correctly then the Turks Head knot is just for cosmetics? Or is it something that will help you keep the constrictor knots in good shape? Also, thanks for going into perfect detail on how to do all these knots. I had to redo the first one a couple times to get it right. But that is no huge deal. Just rewind and watch again.
+WhyKnot So that Turks Head knot is a pain in the butt to tie... But I finally got the cordage to do it and tied it. Though over the last couple days of using the leash (which is about the perfect length I think) I decided it needed a minor addition, due in no small part to this rope being slick when wet. I added about 8-10 inches from the latch an Alpine Butterfly knot. This way if I have need of a shorter line I have it. Sadly this takes a lot of length from the over all leash. But that's ok. Considering this leash over all is less than half the cost of a commercial leash. Its still awesome.
Hi, Great tutorials! Is the constrictor knot intended to stand a dog that pulls? or is it better to make a figure 8 or bowline for strong and energetic dogs?
I used 8 mm double braided polyester for the main rope from memory. You should be able to use any rope you have handy though as long as it is not too stiff or really slippery synthetic. Good luck.
+Melissa Holmes ... The cost for roughly 2m of rope (a bit over 6 foot) and the other smaller cordage is quite a bit less than a comparable length leash from the pet store. And this is only about 15 to 30 minutes work for it.

Just introduced the the world of knot tying - beautiful art - and soooo useful - dog leashes are on my list to do!
Where else has it been helpful in your life over the last couple years?

Just finished making myself one of these for training purposes, it’s about 12m long and this lead is incredible! Thanks!

I know this video was made a long time ago, but I will ask anyway....Why not just put a bowline or a figure 8 in both ends?

Both for cosmetics and to keep the constrictors secure. Thanks for commenting

Hi. I still use the leash I made in this video and I have a large excitable dog. It's holding up well.
this is so cool wow
thank you very good video ^^
Hi, that was a good tutorial. Thanks for doing it. Can you advise me what type of rope you used?
Thanks

nice I like it
Plenty of knots in this world to avoid any extra material besides one rope and the snap.
A lot of work just for the mongrel to chew through the lead.
Nice knots though
